      I'm essentially doing the same, however I am admittedly less creative. So I've been essentially modding the entire 5e handbook, rewriting rules, changing lethality, adding and removing content, and writing everything up.
      I plan on releasing what I've got when I'm done, with the appropriate citations for inspiration (cuz some things really do deserve the eyes, even if its broken as shit, the idea was admirable) and removal of copywrit content (cuz fuck catching a case I can't afford) then either pay-walling the setting, npcs, & original content or releasing it under a "donate if you can" model... cuz frankly I understand what it is to be on the high seas with sand in your boots, only enough grog in your barrels to make it to port, and a hard hankering for entertainment.

    • @HuntingTarg
      @HuntingTarg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thebajanbots7131 Really, I would submit that the fun went away when it became commercialized - and therefore had to become a uniform, standardized product that would be playable the same way everywhere, not made-up-in-garage-and-basement stuff. The fun began to fade when it stopped being a game for _makers_ and started being a game for _players._ Video games went through that phase; then technology developed to the point that ppl started modding. Then after modders (whether cheat hackers or creatives trying to make the game more fun) could not be kept out of Starcraft and Half-Life, developers started allowing them access to some of the same tools they used to create game content and adjust rules, graphics, etc. Starcraft II shipped with the full set of developer tools used on top of the game engine.

      Wilson was probably our most authoritarian president. He abused the living shit out of things like the Sedition Act (which if I remember correctly originated from his administration), he set up a civilian secret police force called the Citizen's Brigade or Sedition Brigade, I don't remember which. Those actually led to people being jailed for long periods of time on suspicion and never receiving due process. I might be wrong but I think he's the one who sterilized that girl in the south.. He, and both Roosevelts (ESPECIALLY FDR, though Teddy was the original RINO and shares blame) saddled us with the majority of the "progressive" social welfare programs that are crippling for our society, and he (Wilson) definitely gave rise to the prohibitions that led to the drug war. He was the architect of segregation in the south. And he basically founded the League of Nations, which was the first incarnation of the shit pile known as the United Nations, which further gave us the EU.
      If you're ever curious how fucking epically disastrous progressivism was in America, and want to see how progressivism gave direct rise to both Marxism AND fascism and how both ideas germinated and fared in the U.S., and how that also influenced the rise of those ideas in the Eastern Bloc and the popularity of globalism an excellent starting point is the presidency of Woodrow Wilson. As a carnie that ran a ball in the basket game, I can assure you there are no springs in the basket. Or under it or anywhere at all. The key is leaving a ball in the basket which stops the practice throws from bouncing out. When the player is confident they can get the ball in the basket, the carnie simply removes the ball from the basket and bounce bounce bounce every ball thrown bounces out. No springs needed.

    • @PreacherwithoutaPulpit
      @PreacherwithoutaPulpit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Exactly the way the baskets are made is why they're so "springy" in the bottom. If you've ever seen an old timer or anyone who understands how they're made using one in an orchard or garden or field, they always load something like apples they're picking into them first before beginning to drop/throw others into it. This comment's from someone who did 5 seasons when younger during the late 80's early 90's and it was a blast as well as damned good money with unlimited parties/pussie back then. (Don't get butt-hurt those who read this, your sisters, girlfriends and wives came to us we didn't even have to work for it). Hasbro doesn’t need to crowdfund anything. HASLAB is a scheme to get passionate fans to pay a huge premium on “limited edition” toys. Adding a pseudo democratic element to the production process does have the benefit of showing what properties still draw interest; the Rancor and wokesaber failing their funding goals is a huge blow to Star Wars.

      Best of luck. I'm still writing up edits I want to include in my second draft.
      I'll definitely be going the self-published route, as there is more positives for going independent than negatives. From what I've read, the major publishers mostly only accept manuscripts from writers who have already proven that they can market their own work. Unless the publisher expressly promises to market the book for you, I wouldn't bother.
      I'm hoping to find other creators to network with. Maybe even a small independent publisher to network with. But mainly I want to commission artwork and share it on social media, hopefully encourage fanart. If I have to, I'll even narrate my own audiobook and share it on youtube to attract attention.

    As someone who backed multiple Iconic Comics projects, namely Kamen America, Black Hops, and Soulfinder, as well as being a backer for Blade Devil from Raging Golden Eagle, I do not regret those purchases. Iconic Comics stuff is worth getting for the art alone. Kamen America being a standout since it was made in direct response to how Marvel and DC run their comics division. Blade Devil also has some amazing artwork and the panels just flow so perfectly together. RGE has my respect for being someone who put his money where his mouth was and took those who said "Why don't you make your own?" to task and made those same people boil over with anger. If you can get your hands on Kamen America, which conveniently there is an Iconic Comics reprint campaign going on, however many of the tiers are sold out, or Blade Devil I'd say do it. I plan on looking into Razor's work as well.
    Edit: Just ordered both of Razor's books.

      Been working on a dark fantasy series and an action horror series for years and have had no idea what to do with them. Mainly because I'm so attached to them and the characters that I don't want to go to a company that would take them for their own and butcher them if they decided to kick me out. I'm also a much better writer than artist and don't want to make their gothically beautiful worlds ugly as sin. Hope you get to make your stories because not being able to finish them or get mine out there in their entirety is a nightmare of mine.

      @@johnnyboy2537 You could go the indie route, but I imagine paying an illustrator for a project of that kind would run you quite a lot of money. If you are looking to go that direction, however, websites like Reedsy have a ton of pros who can help you get your project off the ground. I don't know how it works with your genre, specifically, but most publishers want samples first and will only then commit to seeing a project through. Maybe get one smaller section edited and illustrated first? I know what you mean about having to hold on to a manuscript. Can drive you insane after a while.

I figured I should probably look for a good partner to help me with it and check my shit. I don't mind some degree of partnership since I don't want things to go to my head though. I'd hate to turn into what the Marvel crowd did with different politics. Most of the stuff I'm making involves visual storytelling that I'm not sure just writing would be able to convey. Plus the horror story has some a lot of weird, trippy, and mindfuckery things in it because the world is going nuts and one of the main characters is actually going insane so animation or comics would work best. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for Marvel and DC competitors or save up to make my own.

Being how I am, I going to end up writing it twice as I want to make sure I don’t miss any plot threads or foreshadowing and that they characters behavior makes sense with who they are. The basic premise is a prison gang becomes super human through a grueling training and diet regime prescribed in an ancient military manuscript, escapes, and takes over the country with the aid of power hungry politicians and activists. The heroes are a motley crew of military and citizens who form a rebellion and fight back when no one else will.
