I'm the same way. I always cooked because I liked to eat, not because I loved to cook. I just got an Instant Pot and I started finding these TH-cam video recipes. Matter of fact I'm headed in to make Corned beef and cabbage. I'll see if this guy's recipe is like grandma use to make. It sure looks like it will be. This Instant Pot thing is going to make me fat. LoL.
This is perfectly true. Never had a bad recipe from you, Jeff. I hope IP is giving you some sort of commission. You are a GREAT representative for their product!!!! Cheers, Dude!!
My family is of Irish ancestry so I grew up eating corned beef and cabbage every St. Patrick’s Day. This is hands down, the best I’ve ever tasted. Your reaction at the end of the video is not an over exaggeration. Very, very, good.
Ya know! I’ve been sorta binging on your recipes and don’t get tired of watching them like I do most you tube videos. I think that’s because you don’t waste time showing us food prep things like crushing garlic, or cutting up onions. You chat with us but don’t go into long soliloquies before you begin to cook or in the middle of cooking. You stick to the point but interject your silly personality while staying busy with the task. Just one persons opinion. Keep it up. Love it. Oh and of course every recipe I’ve tried so far was spot on delicious. Thanks Jeffrey 👍

I made this yesterday and have to say it was THE BEST corned beef & cabbage I have ever made!. and, cooking the veggies afterwards is genius. The cabbage was perfect, not mushy. In my crock pot, even after 10 hours, the carrots & potatoes sometomes still were not done. In my Instant Pot & this recipie, it was perfection! Thank you, Jeffery
It’s is a colab of the Irish & Jewish communities in NYC back in the early 1900’s. They came over from Europe on boats together- shared recipes & this was born from the Jewish brisket, cabbage + the Irish potato, carrot, beer.🙌🏻🍻
Thank you from this Irish cook!! My Irish grandpa was born on St. Patrick’s day & actually dyed his beard green one year. He wasn’t a big guy so he looked like a spritely wee leprechaun!! You are so fun!
Ok, love the whole video and the no nonsense ready to go potatoes carrots and cabbage. The timer seems to be the perfect setting too.....but I was born and raised in Ireland but live in California now and I’m shocked, shocked I tell you that a self proclaimed Jewish boy from New Jersey doesn’t know his Jewish food history. Irish people before the famine cooked a delicious delicacy called Boiling Bacon, simply a good cut of the pig boiled with potatoes and cabbage. All things that were available to the Irish peasant farmer or labourer before the Great Hunger (an Gorta Mór, in Irish) from 1845 to 1849 when over 1 million Irish starved to death and another million were forced to emigrate, mostly to America. Anyhoo...when we came to New York and Boston there was no Boiling Bacon in the stores but the Jews were cooking something called, Corned Beef, we tasted it, loved it, and said, Bejaysus!!! This is not home but it’ll have to do, so a million starving Irish were fed and nourished on Corned Beef and Cabbage! Thank you to our Jewish neighbours, go raibh míle maith agaibh, one thousand thank you’s! Sorry for the long tale.
If you go on his website, it’ll tell you the cook time for a more tender corned beef. I made it that way and the extra 30 minutes were definitely worth it . It tasted amazing and the whole family loved it! Thank you ! 😀
Thank you. The 1st one I made was a little over 2 lbs. The 2nd was about 3 lbs and very tough. Glad the first was for company. I thought perhaps I had done something wrong. Glad to know he has addressed getting meat more tender. THANK YOU!
I am making this for the second time, today. My family said "you made that delicious corned beef/cabbage like a MONTH ago... can you make it again?". My daughter said she felt more Irish after eating it... and belched it for hours. I asked if her burps sounded like bag pipes. ;) I was speechless. This is the first time my family has ever made a request for a recipe repeat. I'm not sure if that says more about my cooking... or my family's usual food apathy. I don't care. I see it as a "win" and put in firmly in the win column. Either way... I will be eating a delightful dinner. :) Thank you, again. Being a visual learner... these videos have upped my family dinner game!!! I am CRUSHING it. Instant Pot... and PressureLuckcooking..... for the win.
I made this yesterday and it was fantastic! I don't think you can screw it up. I used carrot "chips" since I had a bag, and I used baby new potatoes because I had a bag in the fridge. It was the best corned beef I've ever made!
My goodness, this looks good. I am preparing it now. The only change I would suggest is to add a little brown mustard and mix in the juice and drizzle it on the meat....gives this dish a little more "kick". Happy Irish Day to all. Joyce in Floriday
Kudos, Jeffrey! Bought an Instant Pot on Black Friday last, and my life changed, immensely for the better. This is about the sixth or seventh of your recipés I've tried; they're all keepers. This was the best corned beef and cabbage I've ever had. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
You sir have become my must have addition to my kitchen. Out of all the other cooking with instant pot wanna be,s your my choice for spot on accuracy and delightful humor. I am Gary and my kitchen is my escape from the world. Please do not stop or change anything. My corn beef cabbage is a big hit thanks to you. My wife is Irish so guess what? When she is happy we’ll, you know the rest.
I love corned beef. It fed tens of thousands of sailors of the British Navy for several hundred years. Large chunks of raw beef and salt filled hogshead barrels to be aged then filled the holds of the warships that created the British Empire. Having recently acquired an 8 qt. instant pot I've cooked corned beef in it twice. Incredibly tasty and tender. I saved the pot liquor to use to make rice or cabbage soup. In the IP sautéed 4 oz, minced bacon and half sweet onion diced, chopped the remains half head of cabbage an several smashed garlic cloves, A diced carrot and 2 small peeled and diced russet spuds. Added a pint of water and a pint container of the pot liquor, High pressure x 5 minutes. No need to add salt
There is definitely Jewish influence in this dish from the corned beef, The dish itself is not Irish in origin. allegedly Irish immigrants who were living alongside Jews visited some Jewish delis and tried corned beef which they found to be similar to Irish bacon, and then they threw it into a pot with some cabbage to stretch it out into more meals and make it more cost efficient
Technically you could cut the veggies (except the onions) while the meat is cooking for 70 minutes, and cooling for 15. I can't believe only 3 minutes for all those veggies?? Wow
I loved when you said , “Is this a Jewish dish?” the original boiled dinner was ham.. ham was expensive in the United States and their Jewish neighbors suggested brisket as a cheaper alternative (at the time) and voila
Just made this last night. Came out perfect. I put brisket fat side ups it would render down. Also cut the carrots and potatoes larger so they were not so soft. I myself am not a big fan of corned beef but my wife loves it and gave it 5 stars.
Your funny, just started watching your channel, as I just purchased an insta pot.... love your commentaries, and the way you prepare the food and snap your fingers..hahah thanks for sharing
I come back to this video every year to make corned beef and cabbage as it is the best. I have tried sous vide, crock pot and regular pot but nothing beats pressure cooking in my opinion.
Thanks for the great video. That's exactly the way to do it...cooking the vegetables last. The only mod I would suggest: If you want to cut your cooking time on the brisket by maybe 75%.....cut the brisket up into 1" steaks before you cook it.
Made this again, but having no ale, I used left over red wine. Removed the cooked corned beef and put the veggies in the pot to cook. When the veggies cooled I added a tin of stewed whole tomatoes then I used the immersion blender making a huge amount of soup, very delicious heart healthy soup. There was so much that I've canned it using my old fashioned stove top pressure cooker.
Julia Elliott I was raised using russets (baking potatoesl. No fancy kinds back then. Still use them. Even for potato salad. Found a pressure cooker recipe thst uses them even!
ok well, growing up, a Texas Jewish girl, I thought this was a Jewish dish. It was a such a repeated staple for dinner at my house as well as my grandmother's. And cooked in the old scary pressure pot, hissing and spitting! I will definitely try this! Thank you !
Oh Faith, you're a funny guy. Being an Irish/Spanish, honorary Jew, from Bayside/Flushing, I never would have guessed you to be a Jew. LOL. You remind me a lot of my long time friends where we would celebrate St Paddy's Day and Passover. As I comment now, I'm having a sip or two of wine. Happy St Paddy's Day. Baruch atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech Ha’Olam borei pri hagafen.
I live outside Portland Oregon, in Rainier Or. I was born and raised in Hamden Ct., outside New Haven..., (How I migrated, long story), love the accent, I can put it on with the best of them.., Uncle and I used to drive my Aunt crazy with it..., fond memories to say the least. Great show, carry on.
Got an instant pot last week, my first meal in the instant pot was your corned beef and cabbage recipe, it was a huge hit! the meat was so moist it was unreal, thanks again.
Ok , you sold me on this... and I saw your Katz’s pastrami recipe..... doing both ... you be the man, and yes, these instapots are just stunning inventions
The corned beef is “resting,” the vegies are in the pot and we are waiting anxiously. I tasted the corned beef and I’ve never tasted anything like this. Great! Thanks for the recipe!
I bake my corned beef on a rack and add beer to the top of the rack. Cover n bake 4 hours. After 3 hours I remove most of the liquid to the instant pot where I'll cook my cabbage n potatoes. I uncover meat for the last 10-15 minutes of cooking. Yum-yum ☘️🇮🇪🍀🇮🇪☘️
My corned beef is in the instant pot as I’m writing following your recipe. Finally somebody who’s making it to my like. Adding al the vegetable at the same time with the meat, now that makes no sense to me unless you like them all mushy. Thanks
The next time you make this, preheat your oven to 400. Take your brisket and glaze it with brown sugar and mustard. Bake it for 10 minutes or so. Then slice it up and eat with your veggies and soda bread. Herman the German was half Irish and taught us this. He always invited everyone that lived nearby to stop by his farmhouse for St. Pat's Day for food and drink. They were a wonderful family and I think of them all whenever I make this. Food is fun!
Valerie Foster I think, but don’t know. I’m guessing after the IP cooking we can then do the 10mins at 400 in the oven to make a wonderful crust. I have heard it done like this before but never tried it.
I got my Instant Pot on Saturday... and have watched all of your IP videos. They are so nicely done! I am making this recipe today... my first corned beef.... and I am SO excited! Great/informative/adorable content, Sir. :)
following up... A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! everything was perfectly cooked and tasted AMAZING. I impressed my family with about 10 minutes of hands-on-time. win-win! i will TOTALLY stay tuned. I have never seen a noodle pudding... but find myself craving it now. ;)
I’m making this right now in my IP. A quick tip on the spices that my Dad taught me...if you don’t want to have any of those spices stuck on your meat, like the peppercorns and such, get a couple of little, round metal tea strainers. Put your spices in the tea strainers, and screw the two halves together to close, and just pop them in the pot. I use them all the time when I use my Crockpot. Trying them for the first time in my IP. I just popped them on either side of the onions. We’ll see how it turns out! Plus, if you want more spice, pick up a bottle of Pickling Spice, and put that in one of the strainers. I have two, that I use all the time. Mmm...smelling good in here already! 😄 Update: This was delicious!
I've made this recipe twice now and I have to say, you need the Guinness Beer. First time I used 1/2 Guinness & 1/2 beef broth. The second time I didn't have a Guinness Beer in my pantry so I used just beef broth. The second one didn't taste as good as the first so my husband concluded - it was the Guinness that gives it the taste it really needs.
I LOVE YOUR RECIPES. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SPOTS. I ALSO LOVE YOUR PASTRAMI RECIPE. JUST WENT OUT AND SPENT ANOTHER $45 ON SOME MORE CORNED BEEF. I'LL BE DOING BOTH OF YOUR RECIPES. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU SHARE,
Never in a million years would I have thought to put Guinness in my corned beef and cabbage. This was a great recipe. If this is for a dinner party, I suggest leaving the carrots in even if you dont like them (I left them out Becuz I thought we were burnt out on carrots) They bring that color to the tray that brings it all together for presentation that you really miss without them....unless u have thought of a colorful substitution. Anywho, thanks!
My corned beef came with the seasoning on the meat already so I wasn't able to rinse the meat but it turned out delicious. Also, I can't use beer so used 1 cup of beef broth and 1 cup of water instead - again, delicious! Everyone there said it was the best corned beef and cabbage they had ever had!
Phenomenal! The only part I did not do is brush off the pepper corns. Our family personally love them and the packet is NEVER enough so we buy a giant container and put it all over the Corn Beef and it always gives it a nice little kick. I have not tried to do this garlic but it's on the pot now so I will know how it all turns out in about 55 min 😋 thanks for all your amazing recipes! I did your Katzu Pastrami a couple weeks ago and it was insane!! I actually bought two corn beefs this week one for corn beef and cabbage and one to remake the pastrami thanks so much!!!
Hey Jeffrey, love your channel bud!! I've been cooking this dish a long time, but in the oven. Your video eased my mind to use my instant pot, came out perfecto!! Only difference i did was to tap dry the meat and then rub it with olive oil, or grape seed oil. The spice packet that comes with it is pickeling spice, so I get my bottle of this spice and take about 3-4 tablespoons and grind it in a dedicated coffee grinder that i use to grind dry herbs and such, and grind it into a fine powder, and coat the oiled surface of the meat, and then I just sprinkle the packet of spices over the top, then cook. I'm a hog for this dish!! 😁 Keep up the good work buddy!!
nothing better than a nice Jewish boy from Long island,( im a LI boy also,) teaching me to cook, im buying the instant pot ultra after seeing your other comparison video, ty ty ty for making the cooking look so easy!
I'm so glad to see you rinse the corned beef. The instructions always say to put that stuff in the pot too, but then you end up with corned beef that tastes mostly of salt. Without all that gunk and nicely rinsed, you get the flavor of the spices.
I've made this once and it was so salty we couldn't eat it! Does rinsing make that much of a difference? I was going to buy a piece of meat that wasn't brined so i could stay away from all that salt!
@@brilliantatbreakfast I did it! I bought a 4 pound piece and rinsed it off completely then I put it in a bowl of cold water and put it in the fridge. We changed the water every few hours for 24 hours before cooking. This made a huge difference but there was still a salty taste to the meat....be this meat was edible. Actually, it came out very good thanks to Jeffery! This was only the second meal I've made in my Instant Pot but I'd call it a success!!!
Dude! your recipes are the bomb, Corned beef and cabbage turned out epic(like right now it's on)!!! Along with every other dish I make following your channel !!!!!
Great job! Thanks for the technique. Everyone is saying horseradish for the corned beef...which I will try, but I'd like to suggest an Apple Cider Vinegar drizzle over the veggies when serving. Just delish!!!
Just making this today, St. Patrick's Day, for dinner. I left out the potatoes and carrots because of their carb/sugar content. Thank you for the recipe.
This Italian/American, almost Jewish guy, from Long Island is going to try this on Sunday 3/17 St Patrick's Day to keep up tradition. This Guiness added will excite my Irish sister-in-law! From your expletive at the end, I know it is going to be heavenly. I'm going to buy my Lotto ticket and go for the Gold! Erin Go Bragh, as they say.
I made it just as you instructed and it came out perfect! Yummy. Now I will get some dark rye and have sandwiches with leftover corn beef!@@PressureLuck
This is my go to corned beef recipe. It’s killer all the time. The important thing is to slice it correctly. Winner winner corned beef dinner
So glad you love it!!
I’m a ‘senior citizen’ and all my life I cooked when I had to. Since I’ve gotten my Instant Pot I was blessed to find PRESSURE LUCK and you! My family is of Irish ancestry so I grew up eating corned beef and cabbage every St. Patrick’s Day. This is hands down, the best I’ve ever tasted. Your reaction at the end of the video is not an over exaggeration. Very, very, good.
So good!

I would call it well balanced.

Me Too!!
Same. He follows his cookbook but the books says fat-side up. I did mine fat-side down, like the video suggests.
I am making this for the second time, today. My family said "you made that delicious corned beef/cabbage like a MONTH ago... can you make it again?". My daughter said she felt more Irish after eating it... and belched it for hours. I asked if her burps sounded like bag pipes. ;)

Try mixing sour cream and prepared horseradish (to taste) as a sauce to put over corned beef.
G. Ralph Kuntz, MD ohh I’ll try that
damn that sounds good
I like a honey mustard sauce
No sour cream. That ruins the horseradish
@@danielhopkins6290 I'm with you Daniel.
No watered down Horseradish for me.
My grandson was born on St. Patrick's Day and it's a party with corned beef and cabbage and cake and ice cream. YuM! 😋
Some of the best corned beef and cabbage I’ve eaten! Just loved everything, I did cook it for 90 minutes, so tender.

He always invited everyone that lived nearby to stop by his farmhouse for St. Pat's Day for food and drink. They were a wonderful family and I think of them all whenever I make this. Food is fun!
he obviously don't dig the sweet taste ugh
I have to know, is it ten minutes in the IP? Don’t hate me cuz I’m stoopid!
Valerie Foster I think, but don’t know. I’m guessing after the IP cooking we can then do the 10mins at 400 in the oven to make a wonderful crust. I have heard it done like this before but never tried it.
The mustard, brown sugar glaze is even better with a little orange juice and ground cloves. under the broiler. oh my!
I'm Irish and I have never heard of glazing the brisket with brown sugar and mustard? Never had it served that way in Ireland either.
Very good! I used whole mini potatoes also, and then mashed them up into mashed potatoes with garlic, butter and heavy whipping cream. Yum!
This is happening in just a couple hours in my house!!! Thank you for posting! I am enjoying my newest subscription on TH-cam:)
I got my Instant Pot on Saturday... and have watched all of your IP videos. They are so nicely done!
I am making this recipe today... my first corned beef.... and I am SO excited!
Great/informative/adorable content, Sir. :)
Debra Keith thank you so much! I have no doubt you'll love it! And stay tuned for more!!!
following up...
I really needed this, I made 1 change, used sweet potatoes. turned out great . thank you.
This old video sneaked up on me. Thanks for sharing this easy method!
Don’t worry about the Irish, I’m an Aussie and that looks fantastic! 👏🏻👏🏻👌😊
You are #1! Thanks so much for sharing your talents! Can’t wait to make this!
I learned so much about chicken noodle soup from your noodle soup recipe. Your a top notch chef. Thank you so much, I'm cooking your recipe now.
Love, love your videos.....in all of them, my very favorite part is when you taste it at the end. You are a Godsend.
You got charisma! I’ve been binge watching your videos. Keep up the great content!
Love the “Into the Woods” reference!... now to see if I’ll love the recipe!
Great! I make this all the time first time in the IP with a few tweaks came out amazing! Love your channel!
Alan Moser Alan, just curious, I’m making this recipe for the first time this weekend, what tweaks have you tried?
Made this. Simply Amazing!! Thanks.
I’ll be trying it this week. My favorite chef has done it again!
I was born & raised in Lower Manhattan, Katz has the BESTTTTTTT pastrami EVER!!!!!! ❤️❤️ ugh I want one right now lol
We call this jiggs dinner on the isle of newfoundland. Usually we boil the veggies and salt meat together. Love it.
Alwys love watching you even though I am VERY Southern!!! I do have your cook book!!
sooo funny "hmmm a wine glass .....I wonder what I was doing this whole time and the slotted spoon can catch the potatoes" lmao ty
I gotta make that...alot!!! Not just for St.Patricks Day...lol Looks awesome!!!
Very good instructions!!!!! You made it simple❤️
I made it today and it was easy and delicious. Thanks for the recipe.
Keep up the good work buddy!!
nothing better than a nice Jewish boy from Long island,( im a LI boy also,) teaching me to cook, im buying the instant pot ultra after seeing your other comparison video, ty ty ty for making the cooking look so easy!
Omg, you are hilarious when you are buzzed! Great video.
@@mimimarks1398 Yes, it makes a HUGE difference. Try it again with a good rinse and see if you like it better.
So entertainingly funny!! Looking forward to making my dish of cabbage and corned beef!! Thanks 🙏
If you follow his instructions EXACTLY, you will be singing praise to God (around a mouthful of this delectable dish)!!!
Love this recipe! We tried it a few weeks ago and it was perfection!! Cooking it again today!! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

Your potato leek soup recipe won me over! Now, to try this today. Thank you for sharing!🍀
Yas KATZ! I am originally from New York miss KATZ. I am in South Florida and wish Katz was out here
For a Jewish guy your a very good cook. Jewish people can do anything. I'm impressed.
Excellent recipe...made it this year and YUM!
Great job! Thanks for the technique. Everyone is saying horseradish for the corned beef...which I will try, but I'd like to suggest an Apple Cider Vinegar drizzle over the veggies when serving. Just delish!!!
Winner, winner Jeffery's corned beef dinner! This was awesome, thank you ❤
Just making this today, St. Patrick's Day, for dinner. I left out the potatoes and carrots because of their carb/sugar content. Thank you for the recipe.
Damn man. This is my second time with this and YUMMY. Thanks man.
We followed your recipe for Corned Beef ( twice ) in the Instant Pot and it was delectable. 😋
Made this was awesome. However I did a less pressure 6 minute run for the veggies. It was perfect.
Love this!
I made it just as you instructed and it came out perfect! Yummy. Now I will get some dark rye and have sandwiches with leftover corn beef!@@PressureLuck
Omg it’s you again lol I Italian girl from Long Island. I forgot beer, I will have to risk the virus and go to liquor store.
Risk it risk it
I just had corn beef and cabbage from an Irish pub but after watching your demo I would eat it again!
