    I always turn to you for chords. Your style is so fresh and cool - and hard to play, so I practice better instead of using easy solutions and bad habbits :-) Thanks!

      @Kyle Balmer This is all of them. He plays intro, 3 rounds and outro, so I guess you'll need to mix the different "lines" up to get a longer song. That's what I do anyway :-)

    Chord shapes are great, now I hope you can answer my question. Just before ya change from C6/9 to the B9 and then back to C6/9 you stop the chord ringing. Is it up or down stroke, it happens at 4.02 and 4.05 in your video. It's a minor detail but makes a big difference to the feel, I also hear it in a lot of Django tunes, probably something you take for granted but I'm really just trying to be as accurate as possible, thanks from Devon, UK.

    How did Django play those chords with just two finger's?

    • @SvenJungbeck
      @SvenJungbeck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He didn't play the exact same voicings, his rhythm guitarists did.
      Anyway he could do almost every chord with his two healthy fingers, the crippeld ringfinger and thumb.

    You are a great player! Perhaps this lesson is not intended for those just starting out playing jazz chords: but as someone hoping to learn this style, I was completely lost after the second chord change. Would you ever consider doing another lesson of this wonderful old tune slowed down a bit and explained in a more basic way (e.g., where to place one's finger rather than calling out the note on the fretboard)? I think it would be impossible to follow this lesson without a pretty extensive knowledge of jazz chords already. Not a criticism but an observation. Thanks for your time.

    You have a good tone but I think you do the quick upstroke effect far too often. Like every 4 bars. To my ears it sounds better when used a little more sparingly. I'm not trying to be the Gypsy Jazz police. That's just my taste. There is no right or wrong. Nice video anyhow.

    • @SvenJungbeck
      @SvenJungbeck  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      yes you're right here, it's because I taught the quick up stroke to a student on that day. however teaching is different from the real playing situation. but in this case you're right anyway! sorry for that

      interesting observation and I will watch out for that in my own playing too!

    • @zackstewart4109

      Django played gypsy runs that were based on modal, microtonal middle eastern music, which takes some ear training for most gringos to even distinguish all the pitches. If you think there are "proper" and "improper" chords for that kind of situation, you need to 1) learn more about gypsy music, and 2) learn more about how jazz is played in a group (if you expect only one particular chord at a given place in a song, jazz will be VERY difficult for you).
