    For half the cost and no noticeable difference between the 2. I listened to it with my studio monitor headsets with the volume turned way up. I can say the AKG P220 is the winner in my book.

    I own The AKG p220 and was looking into getting an sm7b which I still am, but the p220 is the first mic I ever bought outside of my scarlet studio mic, which really isn’t a bad mic either

    I am a singer and having a non-treated room. Which mic do you suggest from the list below:
    1. Lewitt 240 Pro
    2. AKG P120 or P220
    3. Se Selectronics xA1

      why did you narrow it to only those choices? half of them arent even true condenser mics, still might sound good. but anyhow, if you are singing in room it doesnt matter which mic you choose. even at2020 might be good, but I bought used akg100 which is youtube favorite haha for 40 bucks

    It's close, they both sound great. The AKG is a little better to my ear. I use the
    p220 for my voiceover recording. I picked it after listening to my voice on several mics.
    Could you do a comparison of the P120, P220. P420 and P820?

    The Shure SM7B has good presence however is lacking in the top end, however we are familiar with the sound, The male voice might be a bit too bassy. The P 220 (Which we have a pair) certainly is a brighter crisper microphone. The male voice sounded, to me better on the P 220, while the female voice sounded better on the SM7B, that is for voice over though. I perform, at times phone hold voice over, and the P 220 would sound better over a phone hold situation, (even though phone frequency band is limited), it would be clearer to understand in that situation. the P 220, is also a better choice in most cases for singing.

  • @IrvingSauvage
    @IrvingSauvage หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Both r good but the sm7b has a better smooth & warmth sound, u can confuse the akg is better for one reason and is is more cristal clear high end and the mids is so upfront the top botton is little crispy but its not clear at all, is you work voices thats not the better decision to choose like a mic so when u mix it, u need to fix that problems and the colour is printed sometimes u cant get out that sht easy.

  • @joeparkhurst57
    @joeparkhurst57 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I agree with the thought that the Shure alters vocal resonance. I'd say the Shure almost hides the nuances of the upper range. The P220 can be a bit tinny, but I'm wondering if a pop filter would reign that top-end down a tad. As a singer, I'd be comfortable using either one as long as I have a sound engineer who can work the board.

    • @nunoandradebluesdrive
      @nunoandradebluesdrive 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got 2 akg p220 used, mainly for overhead work, and/or as room mics. I haven't had the chance to try them on that context as I'm still working on the songs. But its funny you mentioned that pop filter idea to tame that brightness a bit because I bought a couple of wind filter sponges to fit the mics exactly for the same purpose - should I need them. It might work.

    The SM7b really hugs Maryann's voice and gives it an almost musical quality. But honestly she would probably sound great thru a can and string. Sting recorded Synchronicity thru an SM7 as well. Thanks - awesome stuff here.

  • @thatwolffe3802
    @thatwolffe3802 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I honestly prefer the P220 it sounds less boomy, the highs are a little clearer where I think on the SM7B they're a little muddy.
    There really isn't much difference though and definitely not enough of a difference to justify the much higher cost.

    Both sounded great. I heard a little bit more ess on the akg but it was minimal and probably easily adjusted out. For the price difference, no need to get the sm7b. Only an audiophile would know the difference anyways if they were just consuming normally.

    • @voscripts
      @voscripts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 220 has a more high frequency content, which is expected, but it's also a bit broken up. This can sometimes make it difficult to EQ. Thanks for watching. All the best.

    In my experience there are a lot of mics that perform well for female voices but matching one to my basso profundo is more of an art. The difference was really minimal but I preferred the AKG for both of the VO artists even though I did find it to have more sibilance.

  • @Sajin688
    @Sajin688 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Personally I hear the ess more with the SM7b but more Tees with the AKG. I own the p220 personally. I've enjoyed it over USB for sure. My stream audio is way more clear. It's great mic for spoken word without much inflection in your voice. I could see where acting where you might yell or get a little loud it could get difficult to maintain with EQ unless experienced, in that case I would want the Sennheiser mkh 460

    • @voscripts
      @voscripts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either mic should handle louder sounds equally well and of course it depends a bit on how you work the mic. However, an acoustically treated a room would be best to minimize reverb time and flutter echo which can cause variations in tone frequency. Thanks for watching. All the best.

    Interesting. They’re both quite close. I think the AKG sounds very slightly better on the male voice, but it’s the reverse for the female voice, where the AKG sounded just a bit too harsh. This really seems like a “get both” situation.

    • @larryhinze8658

    I think the SM7b gives a sound that you know comes from an expensive microphone... but it is interesting too it makes the male speaker sound like he has a little nose allergy... so I have nose allergy easily... does that mean the AKG P220 will be just fine for me?

    I listened to this with beats headphones and the SM7 has more white noise, the P220 damn near has none. The P220 has better isolation. SM7 just has a bit more bass but the P220 sounds a bit more flat. P220 wins this one for me, but then again its not the mic that's the issue, it's how the person edits and mixes and masters their vocals. I had a 30 dollar mic and made it sound like a 200 mic 💀my editing has improved alot over the years to where I can make just about anything sound at least decent lmao. I make music so I have ears for this stuff lol.

      @@voscripts Thanks for the video! Great and helpful content so I just subscribed!!!
      I am just buying my first set up for podcasts and video narration. I knew nothing about recording equipment when starting this process. Sadly, I prob know very little now too....
      From research, I was thinking i would need a dynamic mic for podcasts and a condenser mic for narration. Was going to go for the AT2020 and the Rode Podmic which comes in at around £250 for both. Both would be connected to the Rodecaster Pro, which i hope is good enough.
      Given the quality of the SM7b, I am wondering whether the sound quality will be a match for the lower end condenser mic. If it is, then i probably just want to get an SM7b mic and use it for both purposes. With the condenser or SM7b I will need to see if a cloud lifter is required for extra kick. I would invariably upgrade to an SM7b from the Podmic at the earliest opportunity, so if it also covers narration work efficiently, I feel the SM7b is the way to go???
      I am confident in the content I have created but terrified I will devalue it with poor sound quality. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
      Thanks

    AKG sounds better for the man, more open as condenser should sound. Shure sounds just awesome for the woman which is just incredible. Overall Shure is not bad for the man either, it lacks openness only in comparison but it sounds good. AKG sounds on the woman nice but usual, not that magical. But that's probably her personal microphone
