I think the 501st didn't have their inhibitor chips activated in the first place. Recall in the comics, Vader killed a bunch of clones after Jo Casta Nu (spelling?) told them that he was the Jedi Anakin Skywalker. This implies that Anakin was targeted by the chip (or, at least, that Vader had reason to believe that was the case).
The 501st trusted Anakin with their lives. They respected him more than anybody else; he always led his men from the front, and placed a great value on their lives and wellbeing. If the Chancellor informed them of plot by the Jedi to overthrow the Republic, and Anakin vouched for it, and Anakin was personally leading them to "put the Jedi rebellion down..." They didn't NEED the inhibitor chips activated in order to follow him. This would add to the emotional turmoil of the whole event, as the confused clones follow their great leader into the temple to *consciously and knowingly, with full agency* murder the people they'd fought alongside with for years with Anakin...
Another possibility is that they knew Anakin wasn't a Jedi anymore (Palps told them as much in their mission briefing), thus excluding him from the order. Now, if this is the case, why didn't they spare Ashoka? Palps personally, explicitly, ordered her death along with that of Maul. We know he sent personalized messages to the clone liasons of all the council members, and to some important knights. And she's one of the few people who could turn Anakin back at this point, and therefore her death was of paramount importance to his plan for Skywalker. And Maul was just a loose end to tie up.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing about Tup around Anakin and I always figured Palpatine made Anakin exempt from Order 66. We also know Palpatine made Anakin appear as a hero of the Republic loyal more to the Chancellor than the Jedi Order on the media that people saw. Hence why the people saw Anakin as a hero but not the Jedi as a whole because they believed from what they saw that Anakin was a loyal citizen of the Republic first and a Jedi second.

I've always just assumed that Anakin was left out in the programming, and the programming itself just says "kill every force user hostile to the emperor." (Or something along those lines.) Since then if the chip included every single target then it'd be updated constantly. That's because the Jedi are always recruiting more members, and also loosing them.

    • @19Prometheus89
      @19Prometheus89 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

Yes, this makes the most sense. Sidious would have future proofed the programming so that if he had failed to turn Anakin or any other Force user in place of Anakin, Those force users would have been considered a target. That way it would also consider any former apprentices who Sidious failed to kill or have killed a target, such as Maul.

This actually makes a lot of sense as to why, when Jocasta Nu activates order 66 in Darth Vader’s soldiers, they turned on him inside the dropship. Because while “Anakin Skywalker” was exempt from the order, “Darth Vader” was not exempt because he didn’t exist at the time

    • @cancerconnoisseur
      @cancerconnoisseur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@Jedimaster420 Well yes but Order 66 wasn't something that could be modified on a dime, it's a pre-programmed order. "Lord Vader" was the name Palpatine came up with for him on the eve of his victory, but he'd already taken Anakin Skywalker off the kill-list. The point is that the clones didn't recognize Vader as Anakin Skywalker when Jocasta Nu reactivated Order 66 in his troopers, because there was no "Darth Vader" put on the exclusion list in the inhibitor chip's programming, only Anakin Skywalker. But Darth Vader isn't recognizable to anyone as "Anakin Skywalker" anymore.

Pretty simple, since the clones in comics attacked Vader before knowing who he was, but never "Skywalker", Skywalker specifically must have been exempt. Since all force users were considered viable targets, and clones had knowledge of Sidious, the programming must have the ability to have certain knowledge unlock. Since the knowledge was never used before, and removal of the chip doesn't seem to change Rex's knowledge afterwards, the knowledge must suddenly be dumped into the brain by the chip. The chips were called "biochips" and publicly stated to be for controlling aggression, so I see no reason for the chips data sets to not be editable before its "dumped". We also know Palpatine had a secure galaxy wide communications grid to reach the commanders to execute Order 66. So the mechanism is likely "biochip receives a constant GAR threat and classification feed from one of the constant nearby secure transmission systems that even the clones know nothing about. It doesn't show because it acts only on the biochips. Palpatine can then change information like his identity, and designate force users of his choosing into different classes, hostile and kill, loyal and work with, capture and turn, unknown and kill. Before issuing the final Order 66, Palpatine designates Skywalker as loyal, pushes the final threat update to the troops, then calls them up and activates the order." This would also explain why Cut never activated despite knowing about Order 66. He has not been near a secure GAR grid to get updated orders (like allowong Rex to be able to order Order 66 on the Venator), or have Palpatine activate his last version himself "manually" like what seemed to prematurely happen with Tupp

I always thought of it like this. For most clones, the exact words "execute order 66" is a bit like a post-hypnotic suggestion, which triggers the Jedi murder spree. However, if you gave the order "kill all the Jedi," and they're obedient enough to obey, they'll do it, but still are enough of themselves to know "Ok, Anakin's not a Jedi anymore, so don't kill him." At least at first. Yeah, later, once the initial deaths happen, Palpatine updates the non 501's with the knowledge that Anakin's not a Jedi anymore.

The harbinger of his will. And he likely had even bigger plans for Anakin’s force abilities had he not been defeated by Obi-Wan.

I only saw a video on it once and don't know if its canon or legends but I think it is interesting that anyone can say the command "Execute Order 66" and it works which actually makes sense when you get into it. Not only do we not see Sidious tell the 501st or other troopers not to kill Anakin, but we don't see him tell them to leave Vader alone either. It's a short time between one and the other but either way it would be a long way to not see the two as different men by the average clone. I'm banking on a program in the chip since having to send an exception to the order in not just one but TWO transmissions is a bit more of a paper trail for even someone as secure as Palpatine.

  • @MonkeyJedi99

The rare malfunctions of the chips could indicate a backdoor existed to allow updates, and the malfunctions were random bit errors from received signal noise.
This hypothesis allows Papa Palps to: exclude Anakin, list specific non-Jedi as targets, and give slightly different orders/information to that one group of clones who refer to Darth Sidious.

Leaving those thoughts aside, Anakin presented himself at the Naboo crisis as the best possible candidate for THE apprentice (as Maul bitterly comments how Dooku and himself were mere pawns, soon to be cast aside).
    Anakin was:
    - very powerful in the Force (No, I don't wanna mention the ridiculous Midi-Chlorians...)
    - quite old
    - full of fear of losing his loved ones => 1st real father figure Qui-Gon dies, a place to be taken by Palpatine himself
So it is not too far fetched that Sidious implemented the command not too kill Anakin Skywalker in the Inhibitor chips.

What would have made most sense before Disney is that members of the Jedi order, and when Anakin turned he was no longer a member.
With Disney's extra info the most sensible solution is that the order is basically against all force users except Anakin, and Sidius. That is why Maul's execution were also ordered. The other reason for this would be eliminating any potential future jedi as well, if the clones are aware of them. If these 2 exclusions were imprinted, then it is also the reason why that clone trooper knew Sidius by name.

  • @AestusL4

In the movie, Palpatine contacts different commanders separately. Such as:
Darth Sidious: Commander Cody, the time has come. Execute Order 66.
Commander Cody : Yes, my Lord.
And then different versions of this were sent out.
This implies that Sidious had a very long afternoon contacting each commander to turn on their Jedi. Also, Cody's response of "my Lord" implies that you are correct. Only the Dark Lord could execute the order, and that was programed into them. But the targets were provided to them at the time of the order. This is also why Commander Rex had to provide the "clear orders" to the 501st.
So it wasn't just some signal that went out across the Galaxy, but programming triggered by a specific communication with specific instructions.

Or maybe it was just a ploy to make Darth Sidious not think he would try and overthrow him. I just always assumed it was programed in their chip not to turn on him. This is further backed up by the fives arc when despite Anakin being right in front of Tup, he always goes for the other Jedi and completely ignores Anakin.

I believe it was actually an order to kill Vader if he betrayed or would be replaced in the republic/empire command .
In the Vader comics , Apollo confirms such an order exist and answers vader questions with questions alongside a very strange code.
Thus revealing why he wasn’t targeted as apart of order 66 , The emperor had an order exclusively to deal with the chosen one.
In legends a similar order existed for Vader purely and was programmed into clones weeks after order 66 happened , Vader found out when they betrayed him and the emperor tested Vader against a sith assassin.

its possible that the bio chips get an update when the clones go in for check ups on kamino so its possible that they get an updated target list -and palpatine made sure once he was reasonably sure he had anikin under his sway that he took him off the list

I do remember a Jedi told the troopers to execute order 66 and the clones attacked Vader.

@@GenerationTech I'm still not 100% sure though. Was it a Jedi Mind Trick or was it because the clones were new? Your opinion matters to me. I need clarification. 😭😭
