Glad you are able to knit again. I just finished my second of Claire Garland's frog and getting ready to try her chicken pattern for one of my granddaughter who loves chickens. I am in the process of deciding on a sweater vs a shawl for my oldest granddaughter who turns 18 this year, she is a very young "flower child" and loves colors. Your granddaughter's sweater turned out lovely.

Your Flax is beautiful and the Urth yarn looks gorgeous!
Just off my needles is Sweater No. 9 by My Favourite Things. I knit it with yarn that's been in stash since my son was a toddler (he's 23 now!). I bought the yarn during a closeout sale at a local distributor (Annabel Fox Aran Donegal in the color Sweet Pea) with no idea what I'd do with it. I love the fit, look, and color of the sweater... I'm so happy the yarn is finally in a garment and being loved!
Currently on the needles is the Arrowhead Shawl by Alicia Plummer using Swans Island All American Collection Worsted in the Driftwood color that my husband gave me for my birthday.
Also... I have to let you know you inspired me to make the Noro Woven Stitch Shawl which I just love...so thank you! I gave it to my mother for Christmas so I'll need to make it again for myself.

Oh Kathy, I to am a Nonnie of 4 kids. So we shall be good friends. I am a 47 yr crocheter and I'm a new knitter. I started on Mothers Day 2022. It has not been a easy thing for me. I can knit stitch all day long but I MUST look at a video.EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE TO PURL. I am a left hander Don know if that has anything to do with my purl troubles. Happy podiversary to you. Mine was Dec 6th and I was recovering from my 146th surgery (yes mam 146) I had a fused rod put in my right leg. From hip to ankle. It has been so painful but I had 7 knee replacements done that all eventually ended up with infection. That right leg has been through the ringer. Now my orthopedic told me if it gets infected it will be a above the knee Amputation, so much prayer for this leg to be agreeable! I sure hope I win your giveaway I'm one who has NO STASH. My medical bills have almost ended my fiber life. My hubby seems to think we should pay all hospital bills before buying frivolous yarn. My surgery in Oct was $1.6million dollars. And I've had 146 so I owe hospitals and drs lots of pesos, lol. My podiversary was Dec6th.,2019 so I guess that's 4 yrs. Oh those singles colors you held up is just really pretty. I feel I've wrote you a book and we just met. Charlene

Hi Kathy! So glad you are back. I just finished a year of physio for my shoulders and know how frustrating loosing any mobility can be. I just finished the Warm-up Sweater using a free pattern from Espace Tricot for my daughter, and am currently working on the Foliage Sweater from Strands of Joy. I've also decided to use up all that acrylic yarn that was just sitting there without a home and am making granny squares for a blanket. While the yarn is acrylic, I find blankets have a long life and seem to disappear after my daughters come to visit (as my youngest says all wrapped in one: "my mommy made this!").

    • @northwestknitting5993
      @northwestknitting5993  ปีที่แล้ว

Oh, dear. That's a long time for recovery. It does seem that after the initial progress recovery has slowed for me. I love the idea of using up the acrylic yarn to make something beautiful and it would be great for blankets being used by the family. I had one that I made 40+ years ago and was ready to donate, but then one of my kids objected and they now use it for their family. It certainly is easy to wash! I love the Foliage sweater.

Glad your shoulder is feelinng better, Kathy! We've been working on a few of the same projects -- I have a Flax for a friend's baby just off the needles, and I have one sleeve left of a ranunculus! It's my first time knitting the Ranunculus and it is really fun.

Love your little Flax sweater- the muted colours blend the stripes so well. That blue of your Ranunculus is so pretty and that blue mohair would make a great Elton. I just have to do the button band on mins- I love it- like petting a kitten. It was my 30”/day in good light knitting, due to using black lace mohair- lol- took forever but so worth it. I am about to start a Felix cardi, so enjoyed seeing yours and hearing your thoughts about it. Just finished my Lento. Loved knitting it, but it is itching my neck and I would like more positive ease- I will knit another a bit bigger. Great solution to steer your current cardi- too bad the yarn is developing along the bias. The Purlific Knitter does such amazing knits. Thanks for the book recommendations. Really hap to see your episode- always so interesting!

Hi Cathy, Love your podcasts and your choice of colors and patterns. I'm a slow knitter (started knitting just three years ago) but have managed to start and finish in January the Storm Hood by Ailbiona McLochlainn in AndeanSun Baby Alpaca. I'm finding it very comfy and practical for walks on the Oregon coast. Currently working on Andrea Mowry's Everyday Sweater using Juniper Moon Patagonia Organic Merino. I am like you- I love the fall colours, but the fall colours don’t love me. My last finished knitted project were those mittens featured on the cover of the last Spin Off Magazine, Ilisha's Mittens by Sivia Harding. I just cast on a sock using handspun merino/alpaca blend yarn. The pattern is DK Weight Vanilla Socks, free on Ralvery. I always enjoy seeing what you are working on. You seem to use a lot of purple and blue, which I love. That's a beautiful sweater for your grandchild. I'm glad you are able to knit again.

Hi Cathy from across the pond. Only just discovered your podcast and have done quite a bit of binge watching though not in order. Oh so many questions I have for you but perhaps not now.
I returned to knitting after 61/2 years when for some reason becoming very robbed me of my joy of knitting, reading and audio books.
Strangely enough it was quite recovering from surgery I took up the needles again, they were all I had left having given all my stash to the MacMillan cancer charity and patterns to a friend.
So at present I am knitting the cardi from Rico knitting idea compact, wise Hilda’s basic ribbed socks in West Yorkshire pheasant sock wool, and the cardi from highland feathers dk
I have the wool to start my first ever top down jumper the flex light by tincan knits, it made me laugh when you said you were going to try your first bottom up I must find out how you did with that.
I would love to know how you know just what colours suit you and am amazed by how you can adapt a pattern and make alterations I am not that clever
Glad your on the mend take care
Oh ps if I did get lucky and win the draw I would be happy to pay postage to the uk xx

Thank you! Thanks for reminding about Black Sheep Knitter. I loved her first episode. And I thought about using the Sophie scarf for a head tie (and maybe a good traveling project?), but then realized I have two skeins of this luscious alpaca yarn so really want to use up all of it. I'll look for another yarn in the pantry for the scarf.
Much as I love the natural yarns, I do believe that we should make something beautiful with what we have. Red Heart was the yarn I used for a big double crochet blanket I made in the 1970's. My kids still use it!

Hi Kathy, your Grand Daughters sweater is adorable. Happy you are knitting again! You have inspired me to knit a sustainable wardrobe. I had one skein of a gorgeous charcoal gray DK yarn. I decided to make a turtle neck Dickie😃. I free handed and finished it in 3 days. It’s perfect. It felt so good to know I wanted this and instead of buying I created it myself. I now have what looks like a chunky gray sweater. With no bulk when I wear a jacket. It’s so good! The funny part the day I cast off…The Grocery Girls had a segment on their last podcast. About “The Dickie”. It was hilarious. On my needles now The 😢Lento. Again thank you for the inspiration! Also working on The Big Cozy Cardi

I had a problem with biasing recently with silk yarn for a simple tee knit in the round. After hearing your comments I wonder if it could be related to the twist, especially with a hand spun yarn. Blocking did reduce the appearance of the biasing after I patted the columns to make them more vertical.

I’m knitting plain socks (rounded toe, Judy’s magic toe cast on, fleegles heel and k2,p2 ribbing) with the rest of the yarn from my last project (same sock pattern but slightly larger than the current pair). On the last project I used 56 grams of 100 grams of the yarn. I’m using the rest of the yarn for the current pair. I just finished turning the heel so just the leg and ribbing. There is not much yarn left so this pair will definitely be shorter. Before the socks I knit 11 cowls using the easy ridged cowl by Barbara breiter as gifts.

I just cast off the Turtle Dove, a free pattern by Espace Tricot, this morning and it’s on the blocking mat! I’m hoping my next cast on will be a colourwork vest by Marie Wallin, however I may fit in a quick sweater knit first or as well as, perhaps one of the striped sweaters that are popular. I love the colours in your giveaway yarn, and I love orange!

Hi Kathy, I enjoy your podcasts and congratulations on your podcast anniversary. Very happy to hear your shoulder is healing and you’re now able to knit. I find your selection of patterns and yarn colors compatible with me. It must be an age and hair color thing and I’m grateful for the inspiration.

😊happy podiversary Thank you for your time. Happy you are recovering, I went through a similar time of non knitting . I am finishing Eyedazzler for my granddaughter who is turning 16. Just finished the body on Trinigan. Hoping it’s not too heavy to use this year by the time it’s finished. I’m in Minnesota we are in endless winter due for 18” of snow this week…it will be worn. Ravelry I’m Tsknitter… trying to be better at updating but only the last few years.

Eye Dazzler is gorgeous! Stay warm. It's been very cold here, but we often have sun in the afternoon that warms things up enough to go for a walk. The snow keeps passing us right by!

Your Ranunculus is a gorgeous color! I knit a Felix Cardigan with Gotland and it sheds so much, all over the house, and the pills are the size of gumdrops. I will be interested if you find the same, once you begin to wear it. I love the warmth and light weight of the Gotland, but even after trying to felt it a bit to stop the shedding, it still does. Your Give-a Way yarn would look stunning in colorwork with a black background. I'd love to win!

Yikes! Linda, that wouldn't be much fun. I'll definitely let you know if mine sheds. Not seeing any sign of that yet. . . That is a great idea to use the Uneek with black. It would be stunning on the right person.

While I was watching this, I cast off a Reyna shawl made with Trilogy Yarns' Llamas in Drag colorway. It was a fun knit despite having to do the last 10 or so rows 3 times as I wasn't happy with the way I had tried working the bottom.
Ended up with about 15 inches of yarn left, how's that for yarn chicken??
Now on to working on a Kinsey Hat in Berroco Vintage in red and grey for a Berroco hat KAL. Plenty of yarn for that project, so no yarn chicken.

Reyna looks like it would be a good summer shawl project. Doesn't it feel great to use up all the yarn? Unless you need a little ball nearby to pet once in awhile!

Hi Kathy! I just cast off the Wednesday knit vest that I saw in the netflix show Wednesday. I didn't follow any pattern because I wanted to try to freehand for once. It's been a while since the show is popular but I frogged alot of it out due to a mistake so I have just finished it now haha! Lovely giveaway. Thank you and hope you are having a great day!

Thanks so much! I haven't tried freehand yet, but I'd love to relax enough to just experiment. Maybe with a baby sweater.

I've been knitting on the Autumn League Pullover and I just finished the Let's Stay Home socks. I also just finished the Simple Thing Shawl which is very similar to the Sophie scarf. I need to decide on my next project. I love the color of your Felix.

Congrats on your anniversary and thank you for this give away. Among the projects I finished lately were a hoodie for my son, named #1212 Zipper Hoodie for Men by Diane Soucy, and a pair of fingerless mittens, named Duke City Mitts by Dagmar Beinenz-Byrd. I am now working on a cardigan named Big Love by by ANKESTRiCK. Happy knitting and hello from Germany
