      So is it worth replacing a liquid cooled cpu for?

    • @CC-Pi
      @CC-Pi 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@randomstuff_21 I had liquid cooled CPU for many years, went through so many of them as they died after a year or so, I always thought liquid cooled was the best way to get full power and a quite PC, but since so many issues with AIOs for CPU I switched to a Dark Rock Pro and very happy with it, super quite and very efficient, just hope the GPU liquid cooling doesn't fail, think I would cry if that happened with such an expensive GPU 😆

      @CC-Pi my heart would break too 💔🥲 I love the idea of liquid cooled, but I've heard a lot of problems come with it. If only I had an air bender for a pc lolol

    I have one of these. Work of art. Replaced a 2080ti, so you can imagine the improvement. Very quiet. If you have the $$$, don't hesitate. I have an expansive case but nowhere to mount the radiator, so I leave it laying in the bottom of case with the side panel open to provide plenty of airflow. It's jerry-rigged, but it works.

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a huge improvement. And as long as the rad gets enough air, it’s up to you how it looks. That’s a good point for people who don’t have a spot on their case for a 240mm rad. Hang it out ;)

    guys, i just got the same card from the swedish tech store and it came without the plastic seal, but in the video it has plastic seal. Did i maybe get a used gpu or already opened gpu? should i be worried?

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  ปีที่แล้ว

      @dysn, it's possible you got a previously used card. I wouldn't be too worried but here are the things to look out for. Firstly, a lot of cards are getting returned due to coil whine. Have you tried yours yet? Secondly, there's a chance someone bought the card and couldn't fit the 240mm rad into their case, so they returned it. Thirdly, there are 3 fans to check and make sure they are working properly - one on the card, and then the 2 rad fans. If all those things check out, then you're good. Video cards are usually pretty bulletproof. Let me know how it goes.

      I only used that card for a couple of weeks, but I recommend every buy a dedicated 12vhpwr PSU cable such as the ones I recommend here: th-cam.com/video/IpujnC1lGY4/w-d-xo.html The adapters work well, as long as you plug them in tight. Same with the dedicated cable.

      @cf9699 you are correct! The 750w Lian Li SFX power supply didn't have enough ports, so I instead I used my Corsair RM1000X power supply to power it. Technically a 750w power supply is the minimum required size for an MSI 4090, but I would recommend bigger.

    Beautiful machine there! What shocked me is how thick your 3090 is. I have the 3080 FTW3 and it's thick, but not that thick. With mine, I have to remove the GPU to get to two of the NVME ssd's. I'm still on a high: I built a white Define-7 with the 13900K Raptor and it flies! The thinnest 4090 I've seen is from that company that makes clear acrylic water blocks, and they look great also!

As for thin GPU cooling solution, yes, a waterblock is always your best bet if you are comfortable with a custom loop. These closed loop all-in-one coolers are the next best thing :)

    Radiator is upside down. Hoses should be at the bottom. Air collects at the top, so you don't want air bubbles going to the pump. Nexus has proven this very thing time and time again for AiO systems; CPU and GPU.

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good eye! Yes, I realize the ideal position is tubes down, but I also know that tubes up is fine as long as the top of the rad is higher than the CPU or GPU, which they are. It does mean that bubbles may get trapped at the top of the radiator and make noise, but it doesn't affect the performance nor make any audible difference.

    • @JohnLCharette

      Just to confirm, when you say 'wires' you mean 'tubes'? If that's the case, when front mounting, ideally the tubes are down. But, you can safely do tubes up as well, as long as the top of the radiator is higher than the water block (CPU). Here's a great video explaining it: th-cam.com/video/DKwA7ygTJn0/w-d-xo.html

      Horizontally is the traditional way to mount it but vertically also works. My only concern about vertically mounted GPUs is if your side panel is too close to the card, it could limit the air intake ability for the on-board fan. Its ridiculous about the 4090 on price. I could understand paying a couple hundred over msrp but not double the price. Its not worth 3k. Everyone is sold out unless you want to pay 3k...for that price you could get 2 4080's and run them in SLI. I wonder what the performance would be doing that.. might be a better idea. SLI is the new MeTa..😂😂

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  ปีที่แล้ว

      @turboimport95 oh yeah, the scalper prices are ridiculous! Please don't pay that much for a card. As for two 4080s in SLI, Nvidia has removed support for NVLink, so that isn't an option. Your best bet is two 3090 Ti's in SLI ;)

      Yeah, they are still tough to find. I walked into a store and asked about 4090s, they said he had one on the truck. Took another two weeks before they called me.

    happy that reviewers who know they can't actually fit the gpu in their case are able to buy a suprim liquid as their third 4090 😂 hopefully we'll all be so lucky soon.
    meanwhile this is the only 4090 that will fit in my case without requiring an upgrade, but I still wouldn't mind getting an O11 to show off any of suprim with a front mount

      Its the 4090 i want too, was considering the O11D evo but its sold out right now lol well not like i have a build to put in it without the gpu.

    worthless. no technical data and of course it ran 10 degrees cooler, you didn't have it in an enclosed case.

    This vs the ASUS ROG which one is better?

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  ปีที่แล้ว

      ASUS hasn't released a liquid cooled 4090 Strix yet, so there isn't a direct comparison. If you compared the 4090 Strix to the MSI Suprim X air-cooled, I'd personally go with the ASUS Strix. I have heard that the power phases are better on the Suprim, but I like Strix design more than the new Suprim design. Are you leaning one way or another?

    • @motulautech4680
      @motulautech4680 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnLCharette I have this MSI Liquid Suprim, because the Asus was expensive than this, then the design is the only reason the Asus rog is better? In performance which one win?

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't directly compared the two, but from my experience, the Suprim Liquid X that you have is the best performing GPU when you overclock it. I would be surprised if the ASUS Strix can compete without water cooling.
