can you imagine christians having christmas on different days..?
i understand and respect the answer of mufti menk, but i want to point out something. i believe we should decide the day of eid with telescopes. i am turkish, and in Turkey they do it that way. yet, i would like to see all muslims, at least at this point, united as one. and just for the sake of the 'one ummah' i'd prefer my country to follow the way, they do it in Mecca. eventhough i think that's not the right way, but just for the sake of unity... because i think thats far more important than the methods of deciding the first day of eid

It shouldn’t be an issue but I see your point my bro. Moon sighting will be different all over the world but maybe every Muslim in each country should do it on the same day. It’s more than understandable if for example the UK and US have eid on different days, because we live in different parts of the world and are in different time zones. But it is slightly less understandable when people living in the same country, in the same area, are doing it on different days. I believe if people in each and every country celebrate eid together on the same day that this will solve the problem of lack of unity you mentioned in your comment. But I think ultimately Mufti Menk is right and I’m happy he has the courage, the bravery and the wisdom to be delivering such a loving message in such a humane way.

We need to establish a meridian of latitude, in our case mmt.... makkah mean time, and go with that

@@SK_Esskay eid on the same day doesnt take account of time zones, we should follow based on time zone and sighting, we already do this for salaat, imagine if everyone read 5 prayers at the same time?

You don't need to have it on the same day... We are capable of sighting in the UK, the rest of the world can do what they want... Sunnah is naked eye in your own vicinity.
