I need another one of these bullet proof work horses after a 11 year stint with various Ampeg hybrid tube/solid state head's.. There's something special about GK's clarity and uncolored PUNCH.
Great video ! Any recommendation for speaker selection for primarily at home use. I got mine used with a large YBX 1510 cabinet, way to much sound for the house , even with the volume turned down. But worse yet, get a consistent buzz once I turn it on, hoping it it the speaker or cable, not my amp. Cheers
Hi Norm, I appreciate the high quality, well recorded reviews of the GK gear. I purchased a used 1001RB 2x10" MK I combo a few months ago; and so far I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I've got a question for you since you seem to be very knowledgeable about Gallien-Krueger products. Do you know when manufacture of the Mk I units ceased and production of the Mk. II units began? I've been trying to identify about how old my amp is but I've come up short on answers after scouring the web. I see yours is a Mark II and you've had it for seven years so the Mark 1 I've got must be approaching a decade or more in age. Regards, Tucker
KTFAGT3 I believe they first hit the market in the late 90’s, or early 00’s as they were stopping production of the original RB series. Either way I would expect years of satisfaction from any of the RB series of amps. I think they lost some of their GK mojo on the MB series and have now come back to the same thing we all love about GK with their new Legacy offerings that are based heavily on their acclaimed original RB series. ✌️
I've got the MK 1 GK-1001RB (Logo under knobs) and my fan won't turn on. Amp shuts off after about 30 minutes of high output playing. Any tips or suggestions?
Eric Cunningham MTD signature bass. I’m guessing you’re going to pay somewhere between 5-6k for that model. Maybe even more. I suggest you check out the Kingston model for a great bass that is a lot more affordable and a great instrument.
Hello! I picked up this amp and a matching 410RB... I have a 4 pin Speakon cable and the amp in Bi-amp mode... under the Biamp section the boost works and the woofer knobs work but the tweeter and both hi-cut buttons seem to do very little wrt to changing tone... has anybody else experienced this? Maybe I'm misusing it and/or expecting too much from it?
I kinda figured that. Thanks for the confirmation. Love my GK 1001-RB but I'm devoted to Mesa cabs. In any event, I'm happy with the combo. World class for both!!!
Daniel Roos I've been wondering the same thing; the user manual (I will put a cut and paste below) says you need a 4 conductor speakon cable, not a specific GK one. It does require a compatible GK cabinet though. I need to look into this more though. from the manual "Horn Bi-Amp Mode:This mode requires a GK Horn Bi-Amp compatible bass cabinet. Use a properly wired four-conductor Speakon cable to connect to your cabinet. Set the switch on he back of your GK HBA compatible enclosure to Bi-Amp. In this mode, the cabinet’s internal crossover is bypassed. Use the Woofer/Main knob to control the ouput signal to the woofer, and the Tweeter knob to control the ouput signal to the horn"
Hi Pete, I posted this question in Gallien-Kruger Owners forum in Facebook and ws told that you really need GK speakers to support this functionality. That being said, I love my combo of GK 1001-RB and Mesa 4x10 Powerhouse cabs. Mesa cabs handle far more power than GK and IMHO are far better built
Daniel Roos Thanks for the reply. I was interested in if the 4-conductor speakon cable was a GK proprietary item. I've since found out that it's not a specific GK item. I've verified it with GLS, the maker of the cable I purchased. I sent them the pin out info from GK manuals so they could let me know. I was able to get the cable from amazon "GLS Audio 6 feet Speaker Cable 12AWG 4 Conductor Patch Cords for Bi-Amp - 6 ft Speakon to Speakon Professional Cables 4C Black Neutrik NL4FX (NL4FC)" I realize this does not help you since you aren't using a GK cab but it was not easy info for me to verify. Just in case anyone else has the same question. I figure I'd post it here. We already have the GK Neo 4X10 cab but are upgrading to the GK 1001RB-II Head.
My GK rig is now 22 years young. Got it in 1999 and still love it.
"Input jack, always helpful. I really dig these." Norm Stockton really has a way with words... A strange way with words if you ask me.

I just bought one today Mr Norman 😂🎉
I just got this very same one today! Very helpful lesson thank you!
Just bought one, now I'm looking for the right cab. I really like the 212 Neo II, but those German FMC cabs are awesome, too...
Great video, I have this exact bass amp. I'm doing process of elimination to see why it sounds like speakers are busted or a distorted sound. Help!
It does sound good thru the board

Sometimes i've got the same problem
Hi! What type of amplifier does RB series heads have?
bravo
What is that bass? I want it
@Eric Cunningham Its an MTD - likely 535-21, i believe he now has his own signature model.

you look like young Tony Iommi
"we'll talk about that in second"...
Does the bi-amp capability require just a proprietary cable or are GK speakers required as well? I have Mesa speaker cabs.
it will only work with gk cabs and with the gk 4 pin speak cable
