I've never looked at the overall sales, to see how much D20 had an effect on the Market. As in my perception, the Market actually began to shrink after it's release, as many game shops near me began to close. But that could just have been the move to online sales. But wow, D20 dominated the market at that time, it was wild seeing every TV show end up with a D20 version (Farscape, Babylon 5, Stargate, etc), but when they started releasing other RPG's, but D20, it got crazy, (Deadlands, Cthulhu, etc).
I know what you mean, there's a few games where I've stuck to an earlier edition as I was comfortable running it, but did borrow useful rules from a later edition where I spotted and liked them.
I'm afraid it's just a game I never picked up. When I was first introduced to Runequest, it was being marketed in the UK by Games Workshop and sadly it just never stood out among all of the other games I wanted which they were also selling (Judge Dredd, Warhammer, Cthulhu, Paranoia, etc), so I never grabbed a copy. Something I kind of regret now, as it does look cool.
@@RPGGamer The G W boxed set is what we picked up in 82 and never looked back. We also bought everything else G W brought out until they stopped supporting RPG’s but we alway went back to Glorantha. The latest Chaosium stuff is epic and we fluctuate between Runequest Glorantha and Call of Cthulhu
D&D 3rd and D20 were huge. And that was without youtube and streaming.
Hard to believe it, looking back.

I run a mostly 1st Edition game, with a couple of adaptations from the 2nd Edition rules.

WHY YOU NOT TRIED RUNEQUEST?
