Hey cave man, how goes it fish looking beautiful. Did you know if you use prime it helps with there slim coat but safe doesn't something I only learned recently and I've used them now for years. 👍😎
I cut out a section from the video addressing this exact thought. I knew there would be at least 1, lol I made a calculated decision based on many factors. But yes, quarantine over not quarantine is always the better option.
Salute Kev. I’ve learned so much and still learning from watching your channel. What kind of black substrate is that and how many 20lbs. bags you use and Crushed Coral.? Thanks
1st ❤ your channel, I'm saving up to get a tank for Oscar's & Bala shark, not much info on Bala shark,... why you don't have any in your aquariums, any particular reason ?
Hey boss man. How long do you use MetroPlex and Paraguard? I bought both like you but neither really have an end time on when i should stop using them? Also can i do water changes like i normally do each week while using?
Man this Ron’s medication definitely works , sunken belly is gone and you definitely have to vacuum the substrate every two days because there’s a lot of poop more than usual.
Don’t worry about chemicals because when humans are sick we take medications too. we do take chemicals when we want to live, why not we give it to our beloved fishes. I want my fishes to be healthy and I will not hesitate if I have to do. Forget about haters they will find ways to criticize you.❤ love Ron’s fish and Hunter is very good in picking best fishes for you.
Nice new fish kev!! Intersted in the medicated food. Might be a nice staple to keep in the cabinet to clean out my discus every other month or so. Only thing i am skeptical about is that i thought (from what i have read) metronidazole is no longer active after 8 hours of being introduced into water even if being frozen. Does ron mention anything about that in his instructions?
Thats a great point. And you're right. Metro is water soluble and will dissipate after 8 hours. But I'm assuming keeping it soaked in pellets and in the fridge/freezer does not have the same dissipating effect. Good thing to do more research on though! 👍Hopefully @ronscichlids see's this comment!
I used to used Ron’s, but I’ve recently switched to anti-protozoan flakes from angel plus. No mixing required and a pound of flakes goes a lot further than a pound of pellets.
I’ve used that in the past also. That works if you know exactly which parasite or tale worm you have. Most people don’t. That’s why I switched to Ron’s to just attack it all.
I have 2 questions: Can you just do enough food to treat and save the rest instead of freezing? If so, how do you determine amounts of food and medication? Also, should you periodically deworm or treat for internal parasites proactively on a schedule or only if signs of internal parasites? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. I always follow your advice and watch every one of your videos!
There's more food available than you can feed in 5 days. But the food cant stay in the fridge more than 5 days, thats why you freeze the extra until you need it. Yes, preventative treatments like occasionally dosing with metro is always helpful.
Great video, i have used Ron’s medicated fish food in the past. Great food and all around product with great results. Your thoughts on an issue, setting up an 75 gallon, setting up up peacock ( all male) your thoughts on mixing OB with non OB peacocks….. i have been told do not do it, but i want to
You absolutely can. Not mixing those is bull. I've had OB's mixed with Peacock's and Haps for years. It's about all the other things that need to be done to curb aggression, not about any 1 individual species. 😁💪
Another question…… with the quarantine combo, do you treat tank daily with Paraguard / Metroplex? Or do you follow instructions per medication, metro every 48hrs Paraguard daily?
Hello Kev, if I order the Ron's cichlid medicated fish food, would they ship to the UK 🇬🇧. Also I am currently keeping lake tanganyika tropheus would this food be OK for my tropheus to eat as I have only been feeding them on a spirulina flake and pellet diet I only ask this as when I purchased my tropheus from my local fish store they told me to not feed them high protein based food.as they said it could possibly give them bloat many thanks Dan.🐟
Yes, 2 of them are. This medicated food will also help with that as well. I plan to feed them all more to get plump again after the parasites are gone! 😁
I spread out the sinking pellets and my Plecos are able to get some. In the African Tank I occasionally feed some pellets at night when the African boys are a bit less active.
Hey kaveman is it safe that you can add some bio ceramic or whatever they call it around the bottom of the fx4 or the fx6 since it so deep cause I seen someone else do it .
I have emailed seachem but never got a response. Do you know why paraguard would tank my pH? I have water on softer side (2 drops kH, 2 drops gH on api liquid tests) and i have a few guppies from PetSmart that have something going on. I have tried on 2 dif cycled 10g tanks and it took pH from 7.8 down to like 6 over night! Both tanks.. i tried doing the paraguard dips but i followed directions to a T and i ended up with 2 dead immediately after a half hour dip. Any help would be amazing. Tank is at 0 ammonia/nitrite and about 10-15 nitrate, pH is usually around 7.8

I have a double air pump on both tanks with one line going to a sponge filter sized for 20g and the other going to a large tank long air stone. There is also a HOB that I don't use carbon in so there is alot of surface ag. and alot of movement of water/oxygen getting in those tanks..I have It set up that way to give the new fish coming from fish stores the best possible chance. I check the pH and ammonia every day on every one of my tanks and that pH changed on only those 2 tanks overnight. I promise I'm not trying to be difficult I am just nervous to put anything else in those tanks and have just been trying to keep the water super clean. (I use all seachem as well - prime, stress guard, stability, ammo guard if I ever need it for forbid I have everything) I think I am going to try rons food and see if that will help my fish
Can this food be used ? Even if theres nothing wrong with the fish. 🐠? As a preventative measure. To prevent disease ? Or would that be a waste of the medication 👋
Its too much food to be used as a preventative. You'd be wasting a lot of meds, food, and money. As a preventative, once every 2 months or so I dose the tank water directly with just Seachem Metroplex and Paraguard.
Kev I really love you and your videos but after doing some search on some of the Seachem products I no longer feel comfortable using anything outside of Prime. I was having problems getting my cycle to balance out using Stability and I swapped to Terra Safe Start and within 24 hours it was back to 0 ammonia and nitrite. Idk man. Time to get a new sponsor. Did you have any concerns adding a Venustus with the other peas and haps? I've been told Venustus are too aggressive and to not add them, but really want one. How is yours working out so far?
I've only had 1 Venustus that got aggressive once he became massive and I had to rehome him. I've had 2 others though that never showed any aggression. It all depends on the individual fish 🤷♂️
My juice head fish targeted my venustus once he started getting bigger than them. He tried to mind his own business but they kept picking fights. What Ron Said! 👆😁
Thanks guys!
Didn't add cichlid trace to these sick guys? How is rons medicated food working the last 3 days? I just started using it this morning on my fish.
I add Trace during water changes/once a week. Its already in the tank. They've all been eating it very well. Looking forward to progress! 😁
Good to hear
