Wow, would have loved that. I went to San Antonio 1989..but a scouse waiter had been stabbed by some locals before we left , we got off the plane & walked into a war zone involving locals & Brits. Terrible week. Real shame as that was one of the last years before it went a bit commercial!
Yo Harris, I love a quick sunday morning HP video to start the day, seems i missed this one until now. I had ordered 3 Feet from Pie N Vinyl in Pompey but then i got an email saying there was a delay, perhaps only with the coloured versions, not sure, but i think demand went through the roof after news of Trugoy. No worries. I can wait. I know how to wait. And when that telly comes out the other end....your nicked!! A nice little order from Discogs arrived this week, Chic's Risque and C'est Chic along with Elvis Costello's country Blue album, all Mexican pressings, very cheap, Chic especially sounds amazing. Yesterday was a day to spin while getting every so slightly wasted. Cheers mate!
Hi John. There appears to be slot of the black vinyl uk copies of 3ft on discogs, but I imagine the coloured has sold quickly. Yes that Chic album is class, good year for the roses is brilliant, Never heard the rest of the album. Really enjoying Costello's 'Trust' right now!
Hi HP, cracking result for the boys, let’s hope it’s the jump start. My missus is in the same line of work. Funny, she seems to spend all day in video calls with a guy named Lars. At least I hope it’s business….I showed her this video, she cracked up at the waving albums in the air bit 😂 Top quality entertainment as usual, take care bud.
Ha, ha cheers Mike. Maybe we could swap Lars for Sven on some sort of annoyance exchange program! I’m sitting here with a spreadsheet trying to work out Saints chances of survival...Excel tells me we’re screwed!
You see, Harris, you've acquired the Husker Du album with good karma...I hope the Ork that had slain you with the charmed long staff fared not so lucky...! Great video as always 🤣
Ha,ha. I never enquired about the fate of the Ork..I was too busy demolishing the pile of Doritos & cheese straws that had been laid on that night by my mates mum! There’s always an upside about being slain in the first 10 minutes of an 8 hour geek fest! Cheers for watching my friend! Yeah Karma is a powerful force! 😊
Hi Harris, cool video. Fun as always. Agree on The Colours of Spring. Great album. Bought it for my wife, but after some listens it really got me. Don`t underestimate Chris Rea. Almost every 80`s album from Rea is at least good. I have six of them. Greetings
Hello mate, yes that Talk Talk is fantastic. I love Chris Rea ‘Josephine’ French re-edit, just a gorgeous end of the night track, a bit of a hands in the air moment!
Wow, that Zombies cover. The Colour of Spring is my favourite Talk Talk record. I've been lukcy to have had a copy for decades, though that makes me feel old. Good stuff :)
Yes that Talk Talk is great, they lose me with the latter albums, although I’ve got mates who treat the last two albums with an almost religious fervour.Yes that Zombies is hilarious, I actually like having this cover, it’s like some awful 80’s doom metal band!
Went on a bit of an online shopping spree there a while back, prompted by a fairly "harmless" comment you made on an earlier video Harris ... something about men of a certain age and Smiths 12" singles! Anyway bought eight of those suckers over a period of about three days. So happy to have them. Beautiful things. Morrissey really knew what he was about when it came to the aesthetics of the sleeves, labels etc. Anyway Boy With the Thorn in his side is fantastic and the two B Side are great, and the way they run into each other as intended is perfect for sure. Some of the B Sides took me unawares as they're not the versions on Hatfull of Hollow. Old House is really nice with the full band, but when they are different the Hatfull versions are better for the most part. In summary ... the 12"s are fantastic.
Hi Shane, yes I think I said it was my equivalent of building a train set in the loft! 😆 I agree they are lovely items, sound great, & the b-sides are incredible. I think my favourite sleeve is ‘Sheila Take A Bow’ Candy Darling. Two brilliant B-sides on that too. Cheers for watching.
Hi Harris - Sara from 🇧🇷 will lead Norwich back up & probably be sold before the season starts .. Great Smiths 12" & spot on description of that Talk Talk album. Def Leppard they took a year to record & mix in the day .. there were no actual drums on the final product. It was all synthetic ..& sterile. Surprised Weller agreed to open for Blur .. 💷
Hi David, yes that Sarah is very good.An almost English style player, I could see him winding up at So,some like Newcastle or West Ham (if they stay up) The Southampton rollercoaster continues, could be a fun last 12 few months. We might be passing each other!. Intersting about Def Leppard, I never knew that. Yes love that Talk Talk album Thanks David
Glad you found the Husker Du record, broke my heart to see the broken one. I got to spend some time with Maseo, one night at dinner every time he laughed I would whisper “Feels Good” glad to see a repress of 3 Feet. Be well
Hey cheers Shaun.I’ve got a mindset of never missing material objects when they’re gone.I gave away bagfuls of vinyl in the early nineties for free..some of which now go for hundreds of pounds each..but that Huskers had a lot of sentimental value, it had been across Europe with me unscathed..then I managed to smash it after a drunk night out in Shirley 😂 That cassette collection I threw out does sting a little! Man there was some killer punk/hardcore & hip hop in there. Yeah Maseo seemed a diamond bloke. Hope things are ok fellah!
I get any Smiths 12" I can find (I can't find very many). I've seen that Talk Talk album and always wondered what it might be like. I'll have to check that out. My experience with MS Teams is that we spend 90% of the time trying to get someone to mute their computer because we're getting weird feedback and echos, or we're trying to get someone to unmute because they're talking with the mute on, or we're waiting for someone to open and configure a presentation, or we're talking about what we might talk about in our next meeting.
Hi Arturo, yes I imagine Smiths 12” singles your side of the pond are pretty hard to find. Teams is the Bane of my life, it’s a classic example of where employers don’t understand the best way to use technology, it could be brilliant...but now I’m in endless meetings about why productivity has decreased...answer...because we are in endless meetings!!!!
Some great picks there mate. The boy with a thorn in his side is my favorite Smiths song. I want to get that de la soul album, first one I had was Stakes is high on cassette. I must listen to Huskadu as you always go on about them and I have never heard of them. Also I went to Oxfam and bought the soup dragon's album for 5 squid. Great video as always mate. Up the Harris 🤣
Hey Paul, the De La is a great pressing, I love the track ‘Stakes Is High’ Husker Du is a bit of an acquired taste.Bob Mould went on to form Sugar , not sure if you are familiar with their ‘Copper Blue’ album?, but that may be a good place to start. Yeah Oxfam always has some decent stuff!
Hey Retro Musings..you’ve got a fantastic channel, I found it a few weeks ago! Funnily enough I was just watching your Stranglers video, & It made me pull out my Doors debut.one of the few punk bands that admitted liking The Doors at the time!).not listened to it in about 30 years . Hi Harris, I listened to 3ft High & Rising for the first time today on Spotify in the car, with intention of getting the reissue and that being my gateway into hip-hop. Glad it sounds OK - I might try and get a copy tomorrow. Shocking cover on that Odessey & Oracle. Colour of Spring is a great transition album. It's a real dilemma with Teams as I'm always in a meeting but the trade-off is I'm not always in London...
Hi Dale, that Zombies was a Clive special..unusually for Clive it’s got a slight mark on the vinyl which effects play for about 30 seconds, but I can live with it! Yeah 3ft is a great pressing, the original is appaling61 minutes on one disc was ridicoulous. Yes also bought the 12” of Life’s What You Make It..8 minutes of bliss!.
Yes, I agree. Microsoft Teams, Zoom, the entire lot. I'm over it. Add to that, hybrid work schedules, and it's enough to make you go crazy. The Smiths 12" is killer. Absolutely stellar.
Hello mate, yes it’s always a treat to find aS it’s 12”..even over here where they were a top twenty act! Yes the workplace can be very fatiguing pot covid!
Excellent, man, loved this episode. Apologies in advance for this potentially annoying geek out: 3 Feet High--along with a lot of albums from this era--was cut DMM, which allows for vastly longer side length, as the groove is being cut into hard copper, which can physically support tighter spacing than a (non-DMM) soft lacquer disc. I tend to think that if it doesn't sound great, it's for some reason other than side length (e.g. too much compression, etc.). Non-DMM cuts absolutely can suffer from excessive side length and benefit greatly from wide spacing, hence the great sound of 12" 45s. On the other hand, longer side length means more time spent on the inner grooves, so the last few tracks on each side are 33rpm at a very small diameter and with the cartridge at a less advantageous angle, so there's that. Anyway, just my two cents on the matter. (Do Brits say "...just my tuppence..."???) And I don't even have the album, so perhaps time for me to stfu 😜 Anyway, I've been focusing on trying to score De La Soul 12 inches, partially because that original 3 Feet High is so expensive, but also, like you say, because of the B sides and their huge sound.
Hey man.Ok that’s interesting! I remember when I bought this, & me & my mates (who would never have considered pressing quality back in 89) all said ‘Ok this thing sounds awful’ you really had to crank it! The De La 12” are fairly easy to find over here, but I’ve always been cautious as I’m never sure if they are going to have some awful remix (English hip hop singles would often have some appalling flavour of the week producer hacking away at the track) The worst example of a single disk album has to be Public Enemy’s ‘Fear Of A Black Planet’ absolutely dreadful..Paul’s Boutique is on the borderline too, I think that got reissued as a double. It always seems to be the bass that suffers most. Cheers mate, interesting stuff!
Firstly, a brave man, if Too Shy by Kajagoogoo had changed my life I certainly would be keeping that to myself! I can only think that you were an aspiring bass player impressed by Nick Beggs playing ; ). If its anything to do with hairdressing, not interested ok. Had to go n listen to some DelaSoul now.... Depeche great, Smiths got it back in the day, looks a bit faded but hey you gotta have it. JESUS, Talk Talk Colour of Spring is simply brill, my fave TT, did I sublimmmiiaally influence you on my new vinyl prices video a while back, I hope so. Love the Juxtaposition between Josephine and English football hooligans 😅 Glad you finally found your HuskerDu
hey Stevie thanks. Work life is crazy atm I actually think I have a video of yours to catch up on! Yeah I’ve always loved that ‘Josephine’ French edit, but it goes for insane amounts..so more than happy to get it cheap as b-side. Yeah the Dela is an awesome pressing, in retrospect I probably never need to hear it again though! Loving ‘Colour Of Spring’ but side 2 is noisy, needs some elbow grease to clean it!
Hi Harris, I bet that 45 3 ft High sounds amazing! Pity those samples were edited out. Was streaming some Busta Rhymes tracks yesterday & most of the mixes were “clean” versions. Only half of the lyrics were on there.. sounded bizarre!
He Ed! Yes, sounds great. Fair play to Overdraft for putting it on at £24.00 The worst is ‘Coo Breeze On The Rocks’ it used to be a 50 second track consisting of about 12 tracks..mentioning the word ‘Rock’..now it’s a 5 second track that just contains scratching 😂..I reckon they’ve recreated some of the instrumental samples themselves on other tracks , but tbh you barely notice!
Welcome back HP 👍Gee, that Zombies artwork is full-on weird; I wonder whose idea that was, and what were they on??? Most tunes by the Mozz - and Mozz himself - bore me to tears, but How Soon Is Now is a killer - pity it is a 3 figure price for the 12 over here in Oz. Ah, the good old days in the late 1980s with sampling; that was the Wild West back then......cheers from Oz. John D.
Hey John. Yeah a decent How Soon Is Now is about £35.00 over here. Remarkably it was first issued as a b-side On the flip of ‘William It Was Really Nothing’ that’s a slightly cheaper option over here! Looking forward to the Ashes fellah, since my last video England have become the greatest cricket team in the world.Everything is right with the world again! 😆
@@Harrispilton22 Ooh yeah, the cricket should be good - hoping for a repeat of the 2005 Ashes - may the best team win. 😃Gee, that last Eng vs NZ was a cracker of a finish, unless your name is Jimmy Anderson 😂
Hey Chance, yes it’s a solid pressing, very balanced. If you’ve got the VMP you probably don’t need this tbh, & it does omit some samples ‘Cool Breeze On The Rocks’ being the worst example.Although it’s only a 50 second track..it now omits all the samples & last about 5 seconds 😆 I reckon they might have recreated a couple of the instrumental samples themselves too.Cheers for watching
@The Sixth Beatle interesting, Bee Gees 1st is fairly easy to find, in fact I saw a copy today £5.00. Anything on SST is hard to find over here. I see that Huskers about once every 4 years, jumped on it after smashing my last copy. Luckily I’ve got a pretty healthy SST vinyl collection from when no one else wanted them in the nineties. Cheers for watching.
Ha,ha, yeah finding that U.K. Huskers a few months after smashing mine was a pretty freaky occurrence.Really enjoy that Talk Talk.Cheers Mike, appreciate it!
Hi ho Harris. Going back about ten or eleven years in the VC there was a thing that some of the people were pointing out. They were saying that certain coincidences were happening with fellow members and certain albums. There was also VC synchronicity going around. Now I may sound like a complete nutcase right now by telling you this. But here goes. Out of all of the albums that have come out in the past fifty years. What are the odds that the album I just ordered fifteen minutes ago is the one that you are holding in your avatar for this video? Crazy. I actually pre-ordered a copy of the new '3 Feet High..' The colored blue version. I thought the blue looked the nicest out of the five or six that they are releasing. >< I do have most of the UK Smiths 12 and 7". I am more complete with all of the Moz releases. I actually grabbed a 12" Australian pressing of 'Ask' {Morrissey on cover with the kid eating the ice cream} for $15 on eBay. The seller did not know that it was the Aussie version. So that was a nice find. He is reissuing 'Southpaw G', 'Quarry', 'Maladjusted' and 'Ringleaders' sometime this year. Supposedly after the new album {or albums} are released. Miley Cyrus wanted her song off of his new album Bonfire of Teenagers. It does not look like its going to be released anytime soon because Capitol broke their contract with Morrissey. But he has another new album done called 'Without Music The World Dies'. The songs on it it are: The Night Pop Dropped, Zoom Zoom The Little Boy, Boulevard, Headache, Without Music the World Dies, Suspicious Minds, Notre-Dame, Many Icebergs Ago, Happy New Tears and The Monsters of Pig Alley. He co-wrote four of the songs with Alain Whyte who is finally back in the band. He co-wrote more songs with Moz than anyone else including the great Johnny Marr. >< I posted a new video last week. If you have any free time I would love to hear from you Harris. Catch up soon~ Rob/Boston
Hi Rob.The live stuff I’ve heard from ‘Bonfire Of The Teenagers’ sounded like it could be his best album since ‘Your Arsenal’ I’ve long been a fan of Miles Cyrus’s voice . part Elvis, part KD Lang. Her live version of Crowded Houses ‘Don’t Dream Its Over’ is sublime. It’s a shame she’s blocked the song, but I imagine her record company got cold feet, Mozzer can be quite a divisive headline grabbing character! Yes that De La is a great pressing & far superior to the original (for obvious reason). You won’t be dissapointed. Definately going to pop over & watch your video, I occasionally check over & you hadn’t posted one for some time, so that’s my next job! Hope things are good in Boston Rob, beautifully pre-spring day over here!
The 12" king is back!! Good to see you Harris. I wish I had zoom meetings that people would wave about albums instead of talking about bloody stats!! I think I saw Sven in that meeting too. That's something I didn't think about with sample based music, the fact that re-issues may not contain the same stuff. That sucks! Def Leppard fans don'r forget to like & subscribe 😅That Zombies repress is wild....like the D&D weirdos ha, ha! I love that Bee Gees record, but it's also got shit artwork...just slap some psychedelic colours in front of a run of the mill band photo. I'm with you Talk Talk later stuff a bit navel gazing, but the Colour Of Spring is brilliant. Harris, why are you buying Chris Rea 12" singles? Well done on getting another Husker too. Cheers...Ben
Hey Ben, that Huskers was a freak..I literally see a copy of that about once every four years. Sad news the producer Spot died. loved his eccentric production style. Honestly works crazy atm, my Teams presentations are met with equal parts horror & hysterical laughter..tbh I just dont care anymore..if it all goes wrong I’ll sell the records! TBH I’m finding The Zombies a bit weedy, much prefer The Bee Gees. Cheers fellah Speak soon!
Ok..didn’t realise it was on that too!. I’ve been aware of it since owning a Cafe Mambo comp 25 years ago. On 12” it goes for insane sums, so pleased it was sitting on a b-side. It’s a great tune.
That first De La Soul record is so classic! Without the original samples, you don't need a repress. Not only is that a classic rap record, it was the first record I referred to as "hip-hop". Pardon the paradox I just wrote there. Cheers and tell Stockholm to get some musical taste!
Yeah I played the hell out of 3ft when I bought it in 89. Even then, when I didn’t care about sound quality on my terrible system, that thing sounded awful! You had to crank the hell out of it,Nice to have the repress. In the U.K. it was probably the second hip hop album to blow up.Public Enemy’s ‘It Takes A Million’ really went nuts over here. The band loved London, hence why they sampled their Hammersmith gig on the album. Both albums classics, two sides of the same coin really. One intended, one a bit more playful. Cheers mate!
In D&D you were like the extra in the Star Trek TV show that was always killed off early. You would see the main people going on an adventure and then there would be one extra person. You knew, this guy would not last 4 minutes, the guy was screwed and they had to kill him early so they wouldn’t have to pay him a lot. Every week it happened. I tried 5hat Talk Talk album but it was a head scratcher, just didn’t get it. Must not have translated into American well. That De La Soul I need to grab, it is going to sell out quickly. I had it once but the flood washed it away. Microsoft Teams, I should start ringing you up daily lol.
Hi Steve, yes me & Dungeons & Dragons were never meat to be, TBH at that age I preferred chatting up girls. ..and girls were viewed with deep suspicion by my spotty 14 year old mates. Yes feel free to call me on Teams Steve..I’ve got a 3 minute window on March 21st Three AM! 😂
@@diamondneedles1000 yeah, I only bought this as it was on two bits of vinyl. I’m really after the 12” with MF Doom ‘Rock Co Kane Flow’ what a tune that is! Impossible to find!
Had no idea Josephine was the b side to Let's Dance. Wonder if its exactly the same as the "la version francaise" on the b side to Road to Hell 12. I've played that tune to death and I never tire of it. Same with Elkie Brooks' tune Spiritland, still see that Lp in the £1 bins fairly regularly. Cool Cat is also the b side to Las Palabras De Amor single BTW, cheaper option but only released on 7". Cheers! th-cam.com/video/w1RWwyAXdJ8/w-d-xo.html
Yes Charles! Its the same version.Absolutely brilliant tune..I play it endlessly.I like that Ellie Brooks, thanks.I’m a sucker for these FM bands who accidentally put out a dance floater. ‘George Porgy’ by Toto sort of fits the Bill. Thanks for the heads up on ‘Cool Cat’ . ‘Hot Space’ is an album I can often find pretty cheap, so I’m weighing up my options! 😆

I love the convenience of working from home, but you're only ever at the end of a phone, email or Teams call, so there ain't no hiding!. That Oracle & Odessey cover is bizarre, never understood the logic behind changing classic album sleeves. Bee Gees 1st is fabulous, they're ' Revolver' album. Colour of Spring is fabulous, as you say left fieldish but very accessible.
Hi Rob, yes I’ve never fully adapted to the post-covid work environment.I’ve always enjoyed the office, like many people I’m having to seriously think about my future. Yes that Bee Gees is great. I’m a Luke Warm Beatles fan, & Ive always found Revolver a bit problematic , too many stylistic shifts..I much prefer Rubber Soul, Help & A Hard Days Night. They are my go to Beatles albums. Thanks for watching, appreciated!
Teams is fucking death. Microsoft products in general are also literally the software equivalent of a raging tire fire. Love that you big upped De La Soul. Whatta classic. I need that double disc. Def Leppard HAS gone on for an eternity, right? "Boy With The Thorn In His Side" has been a top 3 song for me since I first heard it. That 12 has this brother droolin'. Wow. Beautiful stuff! That is literally the worst Zombies cover ever. What the actual fuck is that? I mean, of course I would have bought that BS, but how? How man? And 20 pound sterling? Mental, bud. The things you do for the show! Enjoy the weekend, Harris.

I bought the 3 Feet High... tape when it came out, and it still impresses. It's flawless. I will not be buying the edited reissue. As for the Smiths 12", they are exceedingly rare over here in the USA, and if I were to find a copy, it'd be $40+. You've talked quite a bit of Hip Hop over the years...any modern Hip Hop artists' records find their way to your player?
Hi M, I think that Patrick The. into Archivist, did an auction with some Smiths 12”...they were going for decent amounts. TBH I hear the odd modern hip hop single I quite like Cardi B , Travis Scott, Denzil Curry..etc, but my days of buying hip hop albums is over. The last hip hop album I loved was Edan’s ‘Beauty & The Beat’ which was 2005!!. Fantastic album, It’s a bit like Paul’s Boutique, but uses more Psychadelic rock & sixties pop samples. Well worth a listen if you don’t know it.
Hi Harris. Did you know that Trugoy passed away last month? ... What a crap cover on 'Odessey And Oracle'. Terrible cheap and dated font and a picture that should be on a dodgy European 80's prog metal album. It's criminal.
Hi Carl, yes sad about Trugoy. That cover is ridiculous, I can only the design team has been smoking the magic parsnips that afternoon before deciding on that monstrosity! It's growing on me....records not sleeve..still prefer the Bee Gees 1st though!

At least I hope it’s business….I showed her this video, she cracked up at the waving albums in the air bit 😂
Top quality entertainment as usual, take care bud.
@@Harrispilton22 Will check that out! Really enjoy your videos Harris. Thanks.
@@shanereynolds5380 Cheers Shane, that’s the only reason I do them...hopefully people get something out of them!
No drums on Hysteria???? Don't electronic kits count then? It's not like he had a choice either!
Wow. Magnificent vinyl pick up. Have the DLS '89 lp and cd. DeLaSoul is awesome. And agree it's pretty hard to find Smiths maxi singles these days.
Thanks for watching!
@@Harrispilton22 Thanks for stopping by my channel. Like you, work takes up much of my time so I do the videos only when I feel inspired and in my spare time.
Love the Juxtaposition between Josephine and English football hooligans 😅
Glad you finally found your HuskerDu
hey Stevie thanks.
The De La comparison I’ve been looking for! Good stuff HP!
@The Sixth Beatle bloody hell..I’ve taken some insults over the years...but that’s where I draw the line! 🤣
At last i found a vinyl dude i can relate to. Love your videos. Bingeing them over hare in Stockholm now. Should i forward something to Sven?
Yeah..tell him to take a month off! Cheers Magnus much appreciate your kind words. Glad you enjoy the videos. 😊

Catch up soon~
Rob/Boston
I bought the 12" of Rea's Road to Hell for the Josephine French edit b side
Ok..didn’t realise it was on that too!. I’ve been aware of it since owning a Cafe Mambo comp 25 years ago. On 12” it goes for insane sums, so pleased it was sitting on a b-side. It’s a great tune.
@@Harrispilton22 Nabbed it for a quid in a charity shop, couldn't believe my luck

Somehow Todd Rundgren actually managed to get a couple of 60 min+ albums on one LP without negating sound quality. Haha never seen that Odessey and Oracle cover before, it just makes it look like the shitest metal album ever tbh. Yeah Colour of Spring is lovely stuff. Hi Dan,! I just started a book thats very DnD, Kings of the Wyld. Quite good. Reissues with samples removed makes me cringe a little.
Yeah I agree. This one only has a few removed, but I’ve got a funny feeling they’ve ‘Reproduced’ a few too..which is wierd when you think about it.
