    i run steering servo in middle position with no issues. just need a shorter pitman arm. used vanquish shift servo arm. works mint. won plenty of class one titles.

    You can move the side battery mount up to the front behind the bumper and mount it to the front servo plate with minimal drilling (like two little holes in the battery plate). Makes a good difference putting that weight up front with little 1300Mah 3s batteries. But I get that's not exactly out of the box beginner friendly lol

    Thanks' for your uploads. I also thought about changing the steering servo position but to the opposite position. Problems with steering may happen. At my SCV10.II, I relocated the upper panhard pivot with a 6mm spacer and removed the front panhard-mount half part. no interference anymore. But i am used to a bit wobbling at the links, in the drivetrain and else connections. It's all got it's play and space. -{8-D> ASCII 4 ever

      I was just sent a link for a company called 1tenth, who make a variety of SOA adapters, including those for AR45P and TRX-4 axles. Everything is of course out of stock, but I've decided that I'm gonna pick one up when available and simplify my life with regards to the Colonel.

    The SC6 has the same issue with the stock servo too lol. Luckily it comes brushless already with the spectrum (hobbywing) motor/esc. I actually like the power system in it a lot. You'll be surprised at how capable the SC6 is.

    We got a feature length one here! Epic quick view and well thought out I would say. I admit I'm curious if the Treal shock towers add much weight up high. The front pair seem like a net improvement regardless of weight. The Base Camp definitely showed more promise than I expected and I am glad for that. Lots of people are going to buy that rig so it's good to see a decent amount of performance out of the box. Portal and RTR I would probably still lean to a TRX4 Sport as others have suggested. I want to say there are easier options to get overdrive with the 10.3 but it has been a while since I searched. I appreciate the clips that shed context to your jokes 😁

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the TRX-4 is still the benchmark for me. Their front-end geometry is on point. No spoilers, but I feel like I gotta build another TRX-4 based rig soon. Axles at the very least. I should be reasonable and build up a kit with minimal "enhancement," but don't know if I can go against my own nature.

    I'd rather see the wires down inside than those sick windows or at least darken them to look tinted. I would own one by now but for that small detail. This is not a cost issue I'm sure and makes me wonder .Thanks for a great quickview .It did change my view of the truck for what it could be.

      @Mars_rc_adventure ปีที่แล้ว

      I cleared the windows on my Basecamp with some 1000# sandpaper, plastic. Polish and spray tint after. 100% better than those stickers lol

      I feel like the body is a little too small. It’s one of the hardest rigs to “self right” because of the angle of the cab- which is something I genuinely never expected to even consider. But here we are.

  • @idiot_RC
    @idiot_RC ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I love my Basecamp. I just had to change the chassis, 4 link the front (super easy with a BOCO mount), swap the shocks, replace the body, and throw the electronics in the trash. Other than those minor modifications, it's been perfect!

    You most certainly can do servo on axle and servo behind the axle on the A45 portal axle. There are several companies. I personally have purchased the behind the servo axle mount from buy once cry once.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can, but you also can't. The skid is 3-link, so you're changing parts to make the other parts fit. So yeah it works, but even 1Tenth says, "possible, but the work is up to you." You for instance BTA an F10 axle. Buy parts, put parts on.

  • @mitsuman5555
    @mitsuman5555 ปีที่แล้ว

    The geometry issues in the front end remind me of a Redcat Gen 8, which was an old truck when this one came out. Also that fact that Axial shocks still don't hold oil in 2023 is really something. And that body... yep, I hate this truck, lol. Good review though!

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I keep feeling like Axial had multiple opportunities to fix the issues with the 10.3 front end, including the panhard foolishness and the placement of the chassis mount for the front upper... and they just didn't. I still see more potential with the 10.3 than the "standard," as the gearbox is a whole lot better, but the front end still makes me long for Element. Or so SSD Diamonds. Or anything. Maybe a Basecamp with TRX-4 axles?

    Could the steering servo be moved to the center location and then a shorter steering link? Then you’d get full throw in both directions.

    • @oldmanjeepingandbiking9621
      @oldmanjeepingandbiking9621 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it is possible, however, you would then end up with a lot of bump steer due to the pan hard rod and drag link being completely different lengths

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This would fix the throw issue, but give pretty bad bump steer, as the drag link would be significantly shorter than the panhard. The AR45P makes for some problems with this front end.

    Any baking tips / instructions on the Canyon trails to remove tires from wheels??? 350 degrees for 10 minutes and repeat as necessary??

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use a heat gun, heavy gloves, and Bob Smith Industries Debonder. Warm the tires, apply some BSI to the bead, and heat uniformly until the bead starts to loosen. The debonder will wick into the bead, and the tires will just pop off. I've used just about every method you can think of, from boiling to baking to acetone fuming. This is what I've found to be the quickest, and you get to same all three parts-- tires, foams, and wheels. Some wheels are REALLY glued, and they'll get a little melty on the details (fake lugs etc.) but I haven't yet lost a foam or a tire. I covered the removal process way back in the early days: th-cam.com/video/bcTY3eHDVp0/w-d-xo.html

    Got a 10.3 jeep, then a Base Camp to try and did not like them. Sold both. Horizon has ruined the quality and engineering as they do. Seem to be more in line with RGT stuff. Got an Element kit then a RTR Gate Keeper ($285 new). Nice quality stuff. Got an Ecto body to swap back and forth with Gate Keeper cage. Put in a HH 27T and HW1080...awesome. My TRX4 trucks are kind of best of all them though. Well engineered tanks.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Potentially unpopular opinion, but AFAIC, the 10.3 isn’t the move forward from the 10.2 that Axial hoped it would be. The Base Camp is a whole lot better than the “standard” 10.3, but I’d still look at something else first.
      And like the broken record that I am, I think the perfect rig for that rare, “I only own one crawler” guy is the TRX-4 Sport Kit. Make it into whatever you want, knowing that there’s a well-engineered tank underneath.

    • @makertime6296
      @makertime6296 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrawlerCanyon Agreed. I have a Sport kit in the closet, a RTR Sport, a 2021 Bronco and the new 1/18. Traxxas and Element own the engineering department.

  • @BlindGuyRc
    @BlindGuyRc ปีที่แล้ว

    I think there is parts of the basecamp that is good.
    Good axles... mostly.
    Good transmission... mostly...
    Wild bore driveshafts... Good.... for stock.
    But..... Axial has pooped the bed.
    They have yet to build a better trail truck then the scx10.2
    That was perfect, and did well bone stock.
    The Capra is fun... but has many issues.
    I dont know.
    I feel they have got lazy.

    • @TheRCBuildersPost
      @TheRCBuildersPost ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had any issues out of my Capra. Of course, I didn't drive if completely stock very long either lol. I've had a few 10.2 kits and a one RTR 10.2. They are easy to build and simple engineering. But, I feel like when element released the Enduro line, that's what the 10.2 should've been. It's superior in every way. In kit form and RTR form. You just get so much more for the same prices. Axial is still decent rigs, my problem is what they charge vs what you get with their products. The Basecamp is fairly priced I feel, but everything else is just way over priced. The 10.2 RTRs, being a complete ball of plastic in the same price range as element enduros, trx4 sport, gen8 and 9, Basecamp and so on... Just doesn't make sense to me. Whenever Horizon took over, they went to crap.

    • @idiot_RC
      @idiot_RC ปีที่แล้ว

      They've gone downhill since being purchased by Horizon. 10.2 was pure Axial days. 10.3/Capra/etc is Horizon days...they're no longer building for purists or enthusiasts and are building to reach the largest market and are pinching pennies at every turn.

    So...1. TRX4 Sport, 2. Enduro SE, 3. Base Camp?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว

      For RTRs out of the box? That sounds about right. This is of course going "major label only." I might have some others that would sneak in there ahead of the Base Camp (Carisma SCA-1E, for instance) but I do feel that strongly about the potential of the SE. The XF is really good.

  • @TheRCBuildersPost
    @TheRCBuildersPost ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm picking element over Basecamp every time

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If this were a head-to-head of the Base Camp vs. the comparably priced Enduro, it’s Enduro all the way for me.
