This is a very safe and effective launch and recovery process where the topography does not allow for a slipway. Remember that you are launching a ten ton(?) boat worth around three million pounds - it is not easy - it is only possible with excellent equipment and highly trained personnel, all of whom are volunteers. Bravo to the RNLI 😃👌👏👏👏👏

This Mersey-class lifeboat costs around £350,000

I've often wondered from when your page and goes off to get to the lifeboat station how quickly do you have to be at the lifeboat station

They try to launch with in 10 minutes of the pager going off

It's not the US CG speed but how do you speed this up. Good job for a bunch volunteers trying to save my ass.

Save your ass? Are you reckless in the water?

Some boat launches in the U.K. go straight down a slipway track into the water.....recovery is made with a power winch. I’m sure in a marine rescue minutes count.

Yes, but in some locations building a slipway launched system is impossible, hence this system which is still very effective.

The comments hint that this is a slow process......it has been slower; a lot slower. At one time there was no slipway. The then lifeboat had to be pulled, by many willing hands, along the Wharf to the far slipway. If the tide was out, this pulling continued to the shore line and into the sea....nobody bothered about getting wet, sometimes in gale force winds. it could take over half an hour from rocket to launch.

Imagine you was a mile out drowning and watching that procedure !! Respect to the crew though

Well, I guess it's quicker than driving a boat from wherever the next deep harbor is.

If you were one mile off shore they would sent their Inshore D Class boat (Rib)

This is an exercise launch. Service launches are a more brisk and robust affair!! Good point though, 💯

Why so many people there? Special event or just the amount of tourists who gather there as the time went on?

In st.ives they have a board that tells you when the next practice launch is going to be. I presume that this was a practice launch.

Im guessing you know nothing about rnli procedures they cant just jump in the boat and throttle upto full power and hope they are going in right direction 1 when they arrive at boat house they have to get changed into the protective gear 2 once aboard they need to power up the vessel and ensure everything is at operating standard 3 the navigator and coxswain need to plot and set the coarse 4 get the antenna's up and locked in while the boat is being wheeled to the water 5 they have to get into enough depth of water and release the retaining chains and wait for the trailer to clear from under it before throttling up or they would damage the hull and trailer 6 depending upon which station it is eg next to a beach where people could be on surf boards or swimming they cant just hurtle off till they have cleared such a point where there is no risk of hitting something or some one or they are in a harbour they have to keep slow or if they went full speed in a harbour they would cause damage to moored boats and put lives at risk which would be caused by the wake one other thing as well the tractors only go at a slow speed due to the weight and the risk of accidents (they are not race cars designed to go fast round a track)

Very cool but just looks incredibly slow if someone is in imminent trouble. I would think having the boat on the dock tied up would save precious minutes.

The whole village comes to watch. By the time it gets in the water and the motor started the people they hope to save have disappeared.
