  • Tight racing among a strong division and after 12+ hours of racing 57 seconds separates 1st and 2nd place and 13 minutes between 1st and 4th. Mostly 15-25 knot winds except for a brief hour or two of 10 knots. Blast reaching across Monterey Bay during the night for a race to the finish! Music brought to you by the 80's, 20's and 90's. Special thanks to our awesome crew of juvenile delinquents: Adam, Andy, Gus, Marcus and Ron!

Always nice to see great sailing pics, especially of JPKs
I wish for the crew they can enjoy another music than the one associated with the video! 😂

Thanks! One of those rare races where (almost) everything just sort of fell into place! Doesn't happen too often but we'll certainly take it when it does.

Looks like a relatively light race overall. I expected you guys to scream downwind in 30 knots the entire time.

We had good wind the whole race but nothing above mid 20's. Mid to high teens most of the day, low to mid 20's in the evening (too dark to catch on camera) and only an hour or so mid day where it was only around 10-ish. Not quite the 30's like you had up in Drakes Bay but we'll take it!

Why can't we keel the mast and headsails only. How much faster is a sailboat keeled crazy right??

Would really prefer the sounds of the sea. The music choice is terrible. Maybe compromise and left channel solo the sea and right channel mono the noise.

Thank you for your suggestion, I appreciate your critique. There are a few various issues with obtaining usable, good quality sound from the GoPro which makes it not a great option without spending far too much time messing with the camera while racing. The majority of feedback I've received regarding the music has been very favorable but of course that will also depend on ones personal taste in music which is never going to be universal. I'm also completely willing to accept there will occasionally be times I mess up and put in a song everyone dislikes. That's just part of the creative process of an amateur making videos just for fun. There will undoubtedly be some that don't care for any of the music such as yourself. I certainly hope our videos are enjoyable to a wide audience but it's just not possible to make something everyone enjoys or appreciates. These videos are just for fun and we have never, nor will we ever make any money or ask for anything in return. So again I appreciate your opinion and I certainly hope many people enjoy the videos but I completely understand some people will not care for the music or other things we put in there. The good news is there are probably a million TH-cam sailing videos so everyone should be able to find some that fits their taste!

Do you like the tiller better than the wheel (like on the j109)?

I really like the tiller on this boat and it was implemented very well. I can reach more lines etc, it also opens up the cockpit more and has better feel than a wheel. I also like the simplicity of a tiller system, less things to break. But I think if a wheel is done well like on the J109 it has some strong points too. For longer sails I think a wheel is maybe a bit less tiring. Thanks for watching and for the comment Gene!
