Learning the “rules”…and you grow beyond the standard of those rules…you learn to express complex emotions; the blend of words, inexpressible ’angst’ and at the very same moment, a great joy. It comes out in words as well as images.
Thank you for your thoughts, they really resonate with me. While I sharpen my skills, my desire is to let the process of the art express the emotion behind the work. You have helped me in the desire of becoming more proficient in skills... yet diligent in keeping the story told genuine and full of emotion.
that's why i love charcoal - you can just go wild with it not really think about the technique or the subject. just let the heart guide the hand and the result is usually very personal. i'm exploring the idea of catharsis in 2D art at the moment so pretty cool this video popped up.
you spoke to something hiding inside me..i'm at the very beginning i have only just gotten the paint to flow better from brush to canvas..all my subjects are wooden and peculiar..but now i know its the learning stages..your painting btw is brilliant..i will imitate it soon. thank you.
First techniques then emotions, brain then heart…ur art should be a reflection of something within u. Ur words r as valuable as this painting which I love. Love the strip of hair hanging down to meet the hand. hierarchy of spaces within the face. Thank u
This is the best 14mins I’ve spent watching something on TH-cam in a long time. During art school I tried expressing some similar thoughts to fellow students but I could not explain them as well as you can. Great work sir.
Wow Sir painting alone is therapeutic for me... but watching you paint or painting while listening to you coach and speak about art is better than medicine. Thank you so much!..
How wonderful...... not only the Painting but what you taught,.....I feel, it's truth.... I am a self taught artist....every single Painting I try to implore myself.... you actually said an amazing thing....if we don't know how to speak How will we write a poem? Seeing your tutorial.... today actually I learnt something which I should know as an artist..... thank you for your fantastic words.
What an excellent explanation of the process .Even as a painter it’s comforts me to hear my thoughts said by a fellow artist thank you. look forward to watching your work on instagram.
This was beautiful and touching. Thank you! This week I've been thinking a lot about what we need in order for us humans to deal with our emotions. Obviously art was one of the things that came to mind, this video confirms that for me. It made me fully understand what people mean when they say something like "alchemizing emotions". Fully feeling the feelings and turning it into something tangible❤️
You are very articulate in the way you explain your process of painting. Very refreshing. It's not the old way of doing things...I am finding a new inspiration, thanks to you. I have been uninspired due to the state of things. (My emotional state right now...) You tend to pull out the grey to make it white... :-)
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And it's not enough word for saying how I 'm feeling right in this very moment. You hit it in the right place at the right time.
This is so beautiful, in every painting there is a reflection of your soul, your conviction, your passion and love.. and with each painting you begin to understand yourself a little bit better and delve deeply within your true self. Both, your art and you, are magnificent Florent.. thank your for each of your master pieces and thoughts
What a fantastic lesson. For me, key to getting immersed in those feelings for a subject is prolonged observation. When you are IN the scene you can then bring it through yourself.
I always come straight to your channel when I'm feeling lost or uninspired artistically, and I get chills every time I watch your videos. Thank you for the amazing and inspiring content
Give your feelings the techniques and strategies it needs to express itself. Much like an artist needs the right tools and colors to bring his subject to life on the canvas.
It's so heart touching and actually a message that emotionally connects a person straight to that piece of art that one is trying to express. The art form that one sees is nothing but a meaningful expression that stays on for a duration beyond the artist can behold it. Florent, you are just great in passing your message here.
Loved the message in this video - I love the learning process of art. I am a watercolour artist but am venturing into oils to see if I like it. I feel I know all about the techniques for watercolour and need a challenge so am enjoying your inspiring videos. They have so much more than technique - you are into the other side and really explain things so well. The feelings we all have as artists, the self doubt and the whole aura of art. This video particularly helped me as I have discovered I am drawn to portraits and I want to now embrace that and explore further.
It is outstanding the way your portrait almost creates itself by watching this . You seem a magician , so talented. Amazing portrait ,really :) and work. The shadow work is wonderful 💙
I have to say it: This art that you were doing is so... so peaceful and, at the same time, I fell bad for the girl. It's like she doesn't have sure what to do or where to go now... Well, at least it's what i'm thinking about after seeing this video. Thank you. You made me see things about myself.
Thank you very much for an interesting talk- your thoughts are illuminating and will help a lot of students of this craft. I think when feeling can begin to be expressed then a painting is starting to be art 👍👍🙏🙏🦉🔥✅
I agree with you on this. Over the years, I've come to the conclusion that if I think about what I'm drawing or painting too much, it turns out really crappy and I end up scrapping the thing. All art rather it be painting, music or dance, is very intuitive. Don't think. Feel.
On est connecté Florent, je voulais lancer ma chaîne TH-cam avec ce sujet, mais tu m'as devancé , ahah !. Du coup merci, j'ai des nouvelle idées à ajouter maintenant !
Oh! One great comment from Carl Jung about art made in the 60s... “ is this art or disease?” .... this is when people stopped learning technique and skipped straight to the expressive. This was the time when RD Laing used art as therapy and much of it has stuck there!
Whomever said, "Everything is art," at that very moment killed the technical foundation of art. Thankfully, it has been kept alive, like a single ember, to be once again built into the blazing fire we know today.
Florent, it strongly shows that you studied philosophy, your take on art is so closely tied to it and your commentary alone is worth watching your videos.
Bonjour, et merci pour votre video. Etes vous vraiment sûr que l'art est plus efficient que la thérapie, vraiment dans tous les contextes ? et l'Art-Therapie, qu'en pensez vous ? Belle journée.
I've always said this. When I paint portraits, the subject is happy but somehow on one side of her face theirs a deep feeling of regret or pitty, almost like I'm painting a face that feels sorry for myself....
you have to learn to walk in order run just like all these modern artists with there splash on a canvas there skipping the technique and trying to force the emotion onto it with their made up meaning for it.
No, nope. Expressing feelings is a hard learned SKILL weather it’s with words or dance or painting. Everyone has feelings. It’s the skill of expressing them that is valued.
Just what I needed.🔥
I’ve never felt connected with any other current artist as much as with you after this👑

A good monologue on the difficulties about searching for a own painting style...very interesting!!!
Probably the most relevant video about art I ever watched. Thank you!
The way you talk is better than anyone! Thanks!
You are very expressive in words and paint
I agree technically first and then emotionally and feelings get the inspiration and creativity out the deep shadows of the soul 💜🎨🌅

You’re amazing! And you helped me take care of a couple things out about myself that I needed right now. Gratitude 100%
A very very complex subject somehow amazingly simplified, thanks so much for taking time to do so video.
Wow Sir painting alone is therapeutic for me... but watching you paint or painting while listening to you coach and speak about art is better than medicine. Thank you so much!..
This video put a tear in my eye

You teach so much more than technique.
Your videos are changing my artistic life...thank you so much. Namaste...
Your message resonates strong with me, and by looks of things everyone else in the comments, i dont normally comment but this touched me...
the opening minute of this painting process is actually haunting. haunting but beautiful.

Beautiful, very talented artist. We are doing Acrylic African Art.
Florent, vous avez tellement de talent et vous avez travaillé si dur pour en arriver là ! Pouvez vous vivre de votre Art?
Oh! One great comment from Carl Jung about art made in the 60s... “ is this art or disease?” .... this is when people stopped learning technique and skipped straight to the expressive. This was the time when RD Laing used art as therapy and much of it has stuck there!
I think it was at least 70 years earlier with Van Gogh, Gaugain, Matisse etc.
Whomever said, "Everything is art," at that very moment killed the technical foundation of art.
Thankfully, it has been kept alive, like a single ember, to be once again built into the blazing fire we know today.
Do you care what kind of different blacks and whites you use
Good talk!
Florent, it strongly shows that you studied philosophy, your take on art is so closely tied to it and your commentary alone is worth watching your videos.
Nice
I want to learn from you so that I can draw same as you is that possible?

Is it weird the work of Zdzislaw Beksinski resonates with me?
Merci!
Wow, you are so cool.~^^
Can you create a hashtag on instgram to post our works and you judge them and give advice :)
🙂🤔👀👍🖌🎨🎨🎨🎨
I always like and try to say something becaus if viewers say something I think you get more points?
Not necessarily more points but more comments and likes tell youtube that it's worth watching for more people, so thanks, it helps a lot ! 👍

Yes, true😊
I can easily express my feelings through art. But when I use my words it's hard
PAINT with Jesus
I do prophetic art Jesus speaks
I liked the painting until 1:43. After that i lost interest.
Why?
