Express your Deepest Feelings | Art Thoughts - Oil Painting Time Lapse with Commentary

  • Hello everyone, and welcome for this new episode. In this one I wanted to talk about how you can paint with your feelings. In this video, I'm not going to really comment about my painting process as I usually do but more share my thoughts and my ideas. And my point is that art gets infinitely better if it’s driven by strong emotions.

    About me (bio) :
I am an artist living and working in France. I learned the techniques of the Atelier of the Nineteenth century and now I try to share some of my knowledge with the rest of the world, because I think that beauty still has an important role to play in artistic creation. I do mostly drawing and oil painting, and my goal is always to provide techniques and explanations that can be useful to anyone, from beginners to more advanced artists.

Learning the “rules”…and you grow beyond the standard of those rules…you learn to express complex emotions; the blend of words, inexpressible ’angst’ and at the very same moment, a great joy. It comes out in words as well as images.

Thank you for your thoughts, they really resonate with me. While I sharpen my skills, my desire is to let the process of the art express the emotion behind the work.
You have helped me in the desire of becoming more proficient in skills... yet diligent in keeping the story told genuine and full of emotion.

you spoke to something hiding inside me..i'm at the very beginning i have only just gotten the paint to flow better from brush to canvas..all my subjects are wooden and peculiar..but now i know its the learning stages..your painting btw is brilliant..i will imitate it soon. thank you.

First techniques then emotions, brain then heart…ur art should be a reflection of something within u. Ur words r as valuable as this painting which I love. Love the strip of hair hanging down to meet the hand. hierarchy of spaces within the face. Thank u

This was beautiful and touching. Thank you! This week I've been thinking a lot about what we need in order for us humans to deal with our emotions. Obviously art was one of the things that came to mind, this video confirms that for me. It made me fully understand what people mean when they say something like "alchemizing emotions". Fully feeling the feelings and turning it into something tangible❤️

Give your feelings the techniques and strategies it needs to express itself. Much like an artist needs the right tools and colors to bring his subject to life on the canvas.

It's so heart touching and actually a message that emotionally connects a person straight to that piece of art that one is trying to express. The art form that one sees is nothing but a meaningful expression that stays on for a duration beyond the artist can behold it. Florent, you are just great in passing your message here.

Loved the message in this video - I love the learning process of art. I am a watercolour artist but am venturing into oils to see if I like it. I feel I know all about the techniques for watercolour and need a challenge so am enjoying your inspiring videos. They have so much more than technique - you are into the other side and really explain things so well. The feelings we all have as artists, the self doubt and the whole aura of art. This video particularly helped me as I have discovered I am drawn to portraits and I want to now embrace that and explore further.

What a fantastic lesson. For me, key to getting immersed in those feelings for a subject is prolonged observation. When you are IN the scene you can then bring it through yourself.

Oh! One great comment from Carl Jung about art made in the 60s... “ is this art or disease?” .... this is when people stopped learning technique and skipped straight to the expressive. This was the time when RD Laing used art as therapy and much of it has stuck there!
