Still Loving my Saskatraz bees!

- This time last year I did a video in this yard and found my Saskatraz bees had done fantastically well. This year is just the same again with 94% survival and great clusters! I also had some great newbee helpers this week!
This is My first year with one hoping for the best so far so good
I just got some, wish me luck.
Good looking bees, they look like they are expanding well from your last video. 94% is an amazing number for this spring, Canada is having huge losses. 30-50-70% losses. Im up in Nova Scotia and just getting my patties on this week. Little to no brood in my hives, today was first day for real pollen. I am 3 weeks behind you in terms of weather looking at your trees in the background. Keep up the good work.

Mug up in Maine this Morning. Thanks for keeping us updated Peter. Here in central New Hampshire the morning lows are above freezing more often than not. The Willows, red maples, and alders are tasseling out. 2 days ago the bees started bringing substantial pollen. They have lots of stores left.....life is good. thanks again for the video..

Loving the videos !!! Question , I’m here below you in Upstate New York ( South east of you ) and temps are approximately the same . Would it be ok to take off the hotbox top to feed my hive with 2-1 syrup ?? Thank you in advance… I reversed the full upper brood chamber to the bottom and the mostly empty brood ( the second deep ) to the top and replaced the hive coozie and hotbox top ( made from MANNLAKE )
At this time of year heat is your friend!
So I take it that I should wait till it warms up more before feeding syrup and just leave the hotbox and coozie on
@@ericgauthier8695 Eric thin out your 2/1! In the spring we want a thin syrup 1/1 which is more stimulating for brood build up. Think how thin natural nectar is. How much depends on the weight of your hive. The size of the hive strength is more of a determiner as to removing insulation. Not knowing your weather but in Minnesota (colder) I'm removing the tops and putting buckets on.
Hot Box? Those are expensive quilt boards. You will never see a commercial beekeeper use them. Another gadget to take money from beekeepers. Some beekeepers. A strong hive can manage its own moisture, weaker ones, not so much.
Good luck, put the pollen patties on and get your spring mite treatments ready. Hope this helps.
