HI. A suggestion. Put a plastic bag in the ice and put the stamp in it. Saves worrying about the water.

I too love how it looks when the wax squishes out from under the seal. I want it all and in all the colors! I bought a glass calligraphy pen that was is a package sealed with first a ribbon, then a wax seal on top of the ribbon. I took it off and pinned it on my corkboard. I love looking at pretty things, cards, flowers, etc. Enjoyed the video.
I know, they're so pretty! I'm thinking of using the occasional one in my bullet journal :)
That sounds like a great use....maybe in the sketchbook, similar to the chops used on Chinese paintings.

I'm so glad I found this video! We're thinking of sealing our wedding invites with wax and I really didn't want to use the typical sealing wax candle sticks cause they seem tedious. A glue gun seems so much easier!
It seems rather silly putting the wax on a silicone mat then using a double sided tape to adhere to the letter. Kinda takes away from the feel of a wax stamp imo. Would take more time too to adhere the double sided tape then peeling it off for each wax when u could just melt the glue gun right onto the envelope and seal it right away

You clearly don't get the idea, these were made in advance so that they could be used anytime without having to prepare for the supply whenever she only need 1 or 2 seals, saving so much time
using the silicone is wasteful - let's try to live more lightly
Maurice Estelle I have been snail mailing with wax seals forever and it does not take longer than a minute or two... so I have to say that this method is somewhat defeating the idea of saving time as it takes even more time for the preparation imho

Glue gun wax, what a great idea - seems so much easier! Can you use regular glue sticks in that glue gun as well or is it only for wax?
It really is! Before I got this glue gun I had a dollar store glue gun that I used for both glue and wax, and it was fine. You may just end up wasting some wax/glue when you need to switch from one material to the other.

If you are sending the wax seal through the mail (not within another "outer" envelope), then I actually recommend either using a professional grade adhesive (I use this for my brides: artisaire.com/products/adhesive-backings?rfsn=1490692.60859c ) or NOT using premade seals and placing the hot glue & stamp directly on the envelope. It's just more secure!

I run into a problem. After making about 10-20 stamps, when I stamped the seal into the wax, the texture of the wax seal changed. The wax surface is no longer smooth but became rather wavy, something with bubbles of air. Have you had this issue and how did you fix it? (I used ice to cool my seal and make sure there was no moisture)

Hi, I looked for an hour and couldn't find the 3M 9488a dots with tab, couldn't find any 3M dots at all, but I did find the Scotch brand double sided adhesive dot roller! Gotcha, i'm one up on you!
How do you get your wax to not cool off so quickly? I don't use a glue gun but my wax cools off almost immediately after pouring it, there's no way I could pour a couple and not have them completely solid by the time I stamped them all. Does it have something to do with the type of wax or does a hot glue gun keep it way hotter or something?

Have people had luck sending their wax seals through the mail? I'm worried about doing this to my wedding invitations and having them ruined by mail processing. I can't do outer envelopes due to addresses already hand written on the envelopes the invitations came with.
I would be worried about the wax seal cracking or breaking while in transport. I guess the tape would help it hold, but would regular wax crack in the mail?
it wouldn’t, modern wax doesn’t break, it’s actually very flexible (of course depends on where you buy it). i exchange many letters and until now nothing happened through the shipping.
but if you use traditional wax, you couldn’t ship it since it will definitely break.

Would this work directly on the envelope? I think the method would be useful if I don't want to use a candle.
It does work! I have done it both ways-this pre-made method is great if you are nervous and want to be able to make mistakes without ruining an envelope

What if you will add dried flower to your stamp, will the doudble-sided tape work?
If you’re hoping to use something under the wax seal I recommend pacing the dried flower down before you pour the hot wax so that the wax can hold it tight without any extra bumps. It will be trickier to take it off but you can definitely still make them ahead!

Does having a wax seal on the envelopes pose any problems with the postal service? Many years ago I sent my son, who was in college, a legit letter with a wax seal and he never received it. I haven't done it since. :(
I'm sending letters to my friends seal waxed and it goes pretty normal even when there's coronavirus. (I'm living in Poland though)

I'm not sure a waterbased glue like hot glue will stick to the oil based wax. What I would do is add a dot of hot wax to the back of the seal to act as the 'glue' 😊

I was thinking that maybe I can even make molds of some wax seals so that I can cast wax seals with clay. That will save me even more time. Of course, each wax seal looks different because of the way wax spreads underneath the stamp when pressed. So to make it look more handmade I will have to make a batch of several (maybe ten?) real wax seals of the same design, and then make molds for each shape.
Such a fun tutorial. I love decorating my envelopes and this would be perfect. Love the nautical star and all the goodies in the giveaway. Do these get knocked off the envelopes in transit? Good question! If you melt the wax right on to the envelop and stamp each seal individually, I'd say, no need to worry, there is no way that thing is coming off!! But with the made-ahead seals stuck on with the double sided adhesive, I'm not sure. I might slip the 'good' mail inside a protective envelop for mailing.

Why do you place your seal stamp on the nice?
The problem with silicone is the spread... I have found it doesn't spread well because it absorbs heat, so I have to use a LOT of wax. My favorite surface is marble, granite, or even the stone coasters you get to put under sweating drinks... they work great, was spreads easily, so you don't have a super thick stamp at the end. The cold stamp isn't necessary if you use marble, granite, or stone, but if you want to try that try putting a marble slab over the ice... the marble will get cold and transfer to the stamp without water.
does the envelop tear off when you open wax seal??
Yes it will. But the proper way to open a letter with a wax seal is with a letter opener at the top so the seal can stay intact in case they want to keep it forever.
How do i change the color of the wax in the gun without mixing it on the seal?
If you make a lot of wax seals, I recommend purchasing a new gun for each color-but otherwise you can use a regular stick of hot glue and push that through. It usually takes me two sticks but it’s cheaper than wasting my pretty wax :)

@@agnes7404 They come off pretty easily! My personal favorite is to get a marble coaster or the back of a ceramic or silver plate-the cool, non porous surface is the key! But yes, I haven't had trouble with parchment paper as long as my wax isn't too hot (silicone mats seem to be a great option too but I haven't personally tried them yet)

Tip: I put my ice in a ziplock back and then in a bowl. It’s speeds up the process because there is less water to wipe off

I was told you can’t send wax seals through the US Mail.
I do weekly. It depended on the bulk of the seal. The ones in this video should be okay. There’s no guarantee the seal will survive intact. Consider temperatures the seal might endure too before it reaches its destination.
I have! Every post office is different and yours may be extra picky. Try using a “hand cancel” stamp or make sure that your envelope isn’t too thick. It might need to be a “parcel” then and cost extra to go through. But I have had wonderful luck with them in the mail-definitely give it another try :)

It is tedious, but not difficult. Imagine how much time you would save if you just put the wax on the envelope and pressed the seal in there.

You should not encourage putting wax seals on envelopes that will be mailed USPS or through the Postal Service!!! They will be ripped off during time-stamping..... they will never make it to their destination. You should know this! Wax seals are for decorative purposes only, like inside the card, invitation, or on the return envelope that is on the INSIDE of the invitation. The only seals on the outside should be actual stickers that look like wax seals. NEVER a real wax seal. Such a disappointment.
I have mailed wax seals successfully many times! You definitely need to be careful and make sure you’re using quality supplies and that your envelope isn’t too thick. I generally recommend that my clients have their envelopes hand canceled to avoid the machines, but I actually just had a wedding invitation come in the mail without the hand canceling and it looks beautiful!
My boyfriend and I used to send wax sealed letters to each other when we were long distance and the wax seal was never a problem for us. The US postal service can accommodate up to 1/4 in thickness including the envelope. So as long as the envelope isn’t too thick in combination with the seal, it shouldn’t be a problem.
