    Great review Chris! I'm so jealous. This pen came out and was selling on-line so quickly! It fit right inside my 30 days, and I can't get it for a couple of more weeks. I have the Platinum Glamour that a friend gifted me and it is cute too! That demonstrator is pretty wild.

    Nice review! I have the (in my opinion) two predecessors of this pen: the Platinum Glamour and the Tombow Zoom 828FP. I only didn't buy this one because it doesn't accept cartridges and I don't like eyedroppers.

      Yes very similar to Tombow but machined acrylic not injection molded. I love ED's! How else can you get 3-5 ml of ink in a pen.

      @@chrisrap52 You’re so lucky with your ED pens, never having them burping on you! Only my ED converted Platinum Preppy, and my Zebra fuente writes uneventfully to the last drop. I should be glad, and not envious, after all my glass is half full as it were!

    Glad you did this video, thank you. I ordered a green one before I saw your video and it was difficult to judge the size because of lack of scale, but now I know based on your terrific comparison. Also glad to know it's a well made pen as are all of the Moonman pens I have. I'm also happy to know it's crab worthy.

    How is your day Chris?
    Great review 👏👏 , and it made my day.
    Upon receiving the Q1 demonstrator I loaded it with your Birmingham Tesla Coil ink. Perfect match and I also noticed a pleasant harmony with my arthritic right hand. So, I knew it warranted to order a second one (the Maya Brown). I find these two Q1’s so comfortable that they will always be inked and on my desk. Now, the only thing I wish-for is for Josh at Birmingham Ink Co. to start shipping their inks to Canada 🙏
    I like the reference to the Fat Man and Enrico Fermi’s inspiration.
    We depend on the efforts of reviewers like you to make informed decision to buy in this wide world of wonderful Chinese pens.
    Thank you for your efforts and dedication; please keep the reviews coming.
    Have a great day and may your every new day be better than your last. 🇨🇦

    I like the idea of a pocket pen like this. I have several that are not as girthy, but it's still definitely on my radar, as I do still have some difficulty with trying to drop a thinner pen. Thanks to you, Chris Saenz and OdE, I'm planning to get one, soon. Thanks for sharing this!

    As I'd mentioned in your first Q1 outing, I got the Brown one last week.
    Definitely an homage to the Tombow Zoom Egg.
    I also have the Clear incoming.
    My EF nib was not as good as yours.
    Even with tweaking, it was dry and chalk-on-a-blackboard scratchy.
    Swapping with a WingSung #6 M nib made it much better.
    This is a great little pen, the hand feel and balance is surprisingly superb for what it is.
    Posted or not, it is a great little writer.
    Thank you for exploring it in such great detail; your thoroughness is always quite the thrilling exposition 😎

    • @vageli
      @vageli 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrisrap52 the ink I used is J. Herbin Lie De Thé, which is a brown, tea leaves color (to match the brown Q1) and really not a wet ink. I had adjusted the feed, and had even deepened the feed's channels. The EF nib was still unpleasant, even after adjusting the tines and micro meshing. The WingSung behaves much better, though I'd prefer a Nemosyne or JoWo nib.

    Thanks, Chris! Great to see a pen like this come along. Several "novelty" pens from China around, dragons, leopards, etc. I am enjoying
    a Fuliwen 2086 with an elephant head clip that is functional, not the smoothest, but it works. This looks like novelty with some attentive craft and execution to go with the fun.

    Hi Chris. Not just an eyedropper, this one is a real eye opener! The various coloured versions are, in my opinion, really gorgeous. If Waski did his pocket test with this pen it would look and feel huge in a lumberjack shirt. How about trying to find a suitable pen case to hold this girthy monster? It wouldn't fit into any case I own. The Q1 is so unusual but I love it! Thanks for the review.

    Had my eye on these for a few weeks now. I really like Moonman pens, and I am definitely an EF guy!
    I was surprised to see how large it actually is. I was picturing something more like a "chunky" pen the size of a Wancai Mini as far as length.
    I don't usually like eyedropper pens, though. I have cartridges in both my Wancai mini and my Moonman C1. I've not inked my Moonman M2, precisely because it doesn't take a cartridge/converter. The only eyedropper pen I own (a Noodler's Charlie) has a nasty habit of burping blobs of ink out on whatever I'm working on. Apparently I have very warm hands and the air in the pen expands and forces out ink when I use it for a time. And I don't know for sure how to get around that.
    Good review, though.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My Charlie also burped a lot. This pen is so large with lots of ink will not react to warm hands like the Charlie.

    Hi Chris, thank you for such a great and thorough review of the Moonman Q1 Mini! I just bought one and I love it as well. It writes great, but I’m looking for some flexibility in the nib that just does not happen with the one it comes with. My Schmidt nib that comes with the Muji fountain pen has nice subtle flex to it (about a 3 Broad) but I here Bock has even more flex. Can you recommend a flexible steel nib with some flex that will fit onto the Moonman Q1, and what to look for in the housing unit should the nib come with a different feed? Thank you sir!

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ll tell you what, a lot of these big companies can learn a thing or two from some of these Chinese pen companies. When a $700+ Visconti comes out the box not writing at all or crazy nib issues, unacceptable.

      I expect there is support behind the Visconti. When I had issues with mine, the seller swapped nibs for me. I was still not satisfied but found a buyer who wanted pen at more than I paid for it. That was fortunate for me.

    I had a a Tombow Zoom, a present from my former boss, and did not like it... so this one is not for me!

      Yes, they are a similar size.

    Sadly my experience with these pens have been awful. I've had 3 since June and only 1 of the 3 is decent. Even with better nibs installed, as the factory ones were garbage that skipped constantly on 2 of the 3, ink flow still isn't the greatest. The nibs are a pain to remove, ink gets in the threads of the finial cap. Don't make the mistake of putting silicone grease on those threads or you'll never get the finial off again. Also one of the 3 decided to just leak half of its ink out. I must say that these are some of the worst pens that I have ever bought, well 2 of the 3 are. It's sad too because I like the thickness of these.
