One of my favorite fanfics written after the 1st movie had Troy eventually become an LA Laker with Chad and Gabriella a famous singer. They broke up in college due to rumors and distance but were brought back together by chance. Anyway at one of Gabriella's concerts she called Troy up on stage and they sang Breaking Free together again. Chad and Taylor were also in the audience having broken up themselves and the song reminded them of when they got together and they got back together. They simply told Troy that when he and Gabriella sing people come together. They also sang What I've Been Looking For and Start of Something New together at the concert.
For everyone saying it's Drew Seeley singing, you are correct but it's just Zac didn't I guess have the voice they were looking for, and wasn't much of a singer, so yes most of the songs with Troy and Gabriella are Drew and Vanessa, but it was never technically denied, it kind of really upsets me because I just found out about this and listened to it again for the first time in years, and want to smack myself for not realizing, "Hey it's not the same voice as in the beginning."

Miss Carter Littrell BSB Zac Efron's voice was mixed with Drew Seeley's voice because Efron wasn't confident enough to do it all by him self also singing in a movie/musical can make or break that kind of career and it was only for the first movie.
Drew Seeley was the original Troy, but backed out or something came up and he had already recorded all the parts for Troy, so they only used Zac's real voice for a few parts. Like the intro to this song. That's why Drew went on tour with them instead of Zac.
