  • In 2018 World Connect invested $4,734 in a group of women coffee and peanut roasters in Ndem Meissa, Senegal, whom we met through our partners at Corps Africa. The entrepreneurial women who call themselves Jappo Bokk Liggey, or "Working Together Hand in Hand" saw an opportunity in the absence of a local roaster for the region's famous Touba coffee. Our investment and supportive network helped the group purchase needed equipment and train roasters. We visited the project in 2020 and found the group had grown from 30 women to 400, the women had built up substantial savings, and their business is sustaining through the disruption of COVID-19. The group also leveraged an additional local investment of $2,655 and continue to build their momentum, confidence, and revenue.
