The mitochondria are an early example of either parasitism or symbiosis, basically bacteria has this super cool process for generating energy that eukaryotic cells lack since it requires a specific cell wall type, so the mitochondria are repurposed bacteria that generate energy for our cells. They even have their own DNA, separate from the cells they inhabit.

I actually grind for a Ralts every time I play one of those games... =p I don't remember if they kept the spawn rate that low for ORAS but I do seem to remember grinding for quite a bit to get a male so I could evolve it to Gallade.
