@agskytter8977 😄 🤣 😂 Yeah, they look something from Star Wars! Speaking of, I just watched a TH-cam video of an RC X Wing Fighter that actually flies! So cool.
This clip makes me remember my youth in Malmoe, in south of Sweden, in the 70ths. Often they came flying over us in groups of blended Drakens and Viggens. Impressing it was, especially when they flew very low. The sound was overwhelming. / Micke P
That green camo viggen is a thing of beauty 😍 Very good job filming, it's tough on the ship with all the rigging about and lots of people on deck it's quite a challenge, but a great day out.
These are my two fav planes. I grew up in the 80 nearby a military airbase and saw them flying almost every day. Few things nowadays makes me proud for being a swede, but all our fighter jets do!
Thank you for sharing such amazing planes with us from all around the world! It is so wonderful that we can relax and watch these videos from your hard worn! Thank you!
Excellent video 📹 Bob, great to see 👀 something different displaying at an Airshow rather than the norm. Love both of these Aircraft, wouldn't look out of place today 👍😎!!!!!!
Draken, was studied by the USAF light Weight Fighter Mafia, in development of the the YF-16. Among contemporaries, it had low wing loading, and a good P/W ratio, with good manoeuvrability.
As a Norwegian, I am obliged to at least pretend to hate our next of kin 🙃, but it must be said - the Swedish fighter-jet programme is outstanding in global post-WW2 military history. As a kid of the 70s and 80s growing up in the valley that then was the NATO "Mach-loop" in Norway, I got to spend my summer job high on the hills/towards the peaks, looking down on anything NATO was flying low. I got to see Harriers, F-15s, F-16s, F-18s, F4s, Tornados, Jaguars, Dassaults, AlphaJets, Buccaneers, F-111 and of course TONS of F-16s from home and partner nations around the North Sea. Twice I got to see something that really does not compute when you saw it - the B-1Bs rubbing their bellies against the pine tree tops. It is an absolute mindblowing sight to watch a thing the size of a Boeing 737 with wings swept racing up a Norwegian valley at M.9 towards the Snøhetta bomb range. (I probably have forgotten some while I sadly never got to see the F-14 since they did not fly low (at least back then). I will, however, add that it was always a good day when visiting Sweden on summer holiday and seeing Swedish pilots giving their Drakens and Viggens a nice belly rub against the spruce around Østersund. Not much topography to hide behind, but it sure did not stop them from trying 👍. It is a hoot to have our cousins in Finland and Sweden on "Team Blue". And better it will become as all four "Nordies" are busy getting our respective next-gen aircraft off production lines and into full operational capacity over the next few years
Loved the shape of the Draken, but the Viggen was a serious piece of kit for it's time. I believe that it and the Lightning were the only interceptors that were known to have successfully been able to get within guaranteed air to air missile launch range of the SR71s. In the UK the overflights of the SR71s were used as practice opportunities by the Radar defence and RAF and were pretty successful. I believe the Swedes did much the same.
Gotta love the old Vig and it’s splinter camo and I think that the Thunder Birds tv series actually used the Draken as a base design for one of their aircraft in one of there shows but I might be mistaken
Love the Draken silhouette (more so since they were flying around when I was a kid) but the Viggen is like from a video game. Up there with the F-117 and a few others.
Seeing a Viggen is rare, seeing the SK37 even more rare, nice that you got closer to them on the boat, because they're not allowed to fly closer to the beach that's the place to be.
Hearing that sound is like being five again, playing outside at the family vacation home and suddenly being shaken by this roar from two Viggen planes passing low above the tree tops. Those silhouettes was easy to learn too...
Had Gripen not been built the backup plan was an attack version of the Draken with new outer wings pylons and landing gear, it would carry the RBS-15 anti ship missile. On the fighter side the Viggen would get an F110 engine and all moving canards. Those where the alternatives in the early 80's if Gripen was not built and a foreign aircraft was not procured.
Those aircrafts were seen in the sky several times a week when I was a child. After a while I got used to it and stopped notice them. (Later on Swedish idiot politics decided to close down a big part of our defence units... )
Ok the first test flight of the J35 Draken was made late fifties, but it was not in service until 1960, and the J37 Viggen 1967 and service 1971. But wish we had these planes in the fifties...😂
Ja, vad ska man säga, växte upp nära F18 Tullinge. 70-tal, innan var det Hawker Hunter där. Blev sedermera livgardist i armén. Vi har mycket att vara stolta över.
J35 and JA37 mechanic / technician here. Love those two types of Jetfighters, they show an era when Sweden were strong and still were a great country to be proud of! Today everything is just sloppy and built badly. If people knew how bad the J39 really is, no one would never really dare to fly them And for god sake, do not buy a Volvo *LOL*
@@bobsurgranny btw, i think you should try some software that is stabilizing the plane into center of the shot, I think gopro or something like this had this feature - then airplanes would stay supersmooth in moments when your camera shakes 😇

The Swedes had it right all those years ago. Both of those outstanding machines look like they were designed last week. So Cool.
No, they were designed by George Lucas 🙂
@agskytter8977 😄 🤣 😂 Yeah, they look something from Star Wars! Speaking of, I just watched a TH-cam video of an RC X Wing Fighter that actually flies! So cool.
They are old machines, from 1950-60.But you know.
I highly respect the Swedish aviation industry
Both aircraft were far ahead of their time. 😎 And exotic looking too!
Absolutely. Futuristic mean looking machines bursting with character.
Love that shot of the Vigg heading toward the shore side on
Indeed, the Draken was around one and a half decade ahead of their time!

Man what fantastic memories you must have from those flying days in Sweden.
Thanks for sharing and commenting
That green camo viggen is a thing of beauty 😍
Very good job filming, it's tough on the ship with all the rigging about and lots of people on deck it's quite a challenge, but a great day out.
The Viggens were used flying at 30-50 metres, above fir forests. That's why this green color scheme...
Was a great day, was on the Shieldhall myself on Friday. 😃
Viggen sure looked the bees knees when the sun kissed it
Very nicely filmed! As a kid I was totally mesmerized everytime I saw a Viggen fly past! It was, and will forever be, my favorite jet! ❤
Thanks. Wicked looking mean machine and so futuristic, doesn't look old even today.
I grew up in the 80's close to an airforce base, so Viggen was the soundtrack of my youth as they were buzzing like bee's over our house all day. 🤘😄

Tack lillebror :)
Norrmän, finnar, danskar och islänningar är den bästa familj man kan ha.
Norwegian money, Swedish knowledge, Finnish sisu, we would be unbeatable!
As they say in Sweden we got brains you got the oil. 😄

Brilliant to see these two together 👌👍❤️
Absolutely was a real treat and a first for me
Some very nice jets, flying very smoothly, filmed equally smoothly. Super video !
Thanks, pleased you enjoyed watching - plenty more to come!
Oh wow, excellent video, great sounding gorgeous jets, thank you very much,Heidi ❤🤗😁👍
OMG l can’t believe those jests are that old,Heidi ❤🤗😁👍
Saab Draken: First flight 1955. In service 1960.

Great looking mean machines. That green camo really suits the viggen
When they took of for the display at Bournemoth airshow they flew over my house! I live 2km from where they are stationed !!
Now that is elegantly beautiful retro aircraft of the Viggen and Draken dancing fabulously in the skies 😎🤩

@@bobsurgranny haha Indeed and it is awesome 😎

ah amazing aircrafts, i still remember visiting my dads base at F21 seeing and being abel to sit in them as a kid...ah those were the days 8-)

Nice treat when the Viggen flew right over the boat and sounded great heading into the shore. Thanks for the comment
Beautiful planes ❤
Indeed they are. Pleased you enjoyed watching
Great vid. Bet I’ve got a pic of you on the steam ship from the beach! Shame they went home on Friday
Cheers. That would be mad I was up the back
Great shots!
Thanks

niiiice!
I suddenly have a craving for Dorito’s 😁
Comment for the algorithm 👍🏼
Cheers ;)
Draken still looks like a space craft, developed in the 1950:s just nuts!! ❤😮
3:08 You can really hear how powerful the Viggen engine is.
Sounded great there rumbling back into the shoreline, I looked up over the camera and the shape was stunning over the backdrop
That Draken flew over belgium after the airshow, heard it, didn't see it.
better than nothing ;)

yeah I know. Just plumbed in the title as put 50s on the draken one a cuppla weeks ago
Viggen pilots used to be called “pine cone pickers” because of their extreme low flying ability!
th-cam.com/video/iGdmRIgjRtI/w-d-xo.html
The fuelpump at viggen has 108 Hp...It is designed as a Swedish nuke carrier..
The Viggen was even more rarely seen in the 1950’s. It flew its maiden flight 1967.
Ha I put 50s thinking of just the draken
Was this filmed on the thursday or Friday? I was on the Shieldhall on the Thursday. Loved the ships whistle when coming through Sandbanks
Thursday
AWESOME!!!
Glad you enjoyed the footage - great to see them flying together
Nice picture, but why did you stand next to a noisy fan? 😬😤
best of the worst.. best bit at the back wasn't open to public..
The Draken is powered by Rolls Royce so a bit angloswedish. Todays Gripens have also several UK made parts although not the engines.
Or the other way around, UK gets alot of aero carbon compisite from SAAB
