  • We were very excited to go to the Redland International Orchid Festival 2024. The show is the largest outdoor orchid show in the USA. With about almost 90 vendors, food and drinks. The show started on Friday May 17th and lasted thru Sunday the 19th. We went on Saturday, just after the doors opened. We covered some of the vendors and acquired a couple of plants but we had to leave abruptly.

Wow, Icannot imagine walking, and holding on things for such high tempretures, for hours! What a shame that tou had to cut the video short😢 Thank you for always telling the truth, as to not telling lies to gain. I hope you guys have recovered, and i agree that they should plan this event on a later schedule.

Hi, yes, we just couldn't do it. In this channel, we like transparency, honestly. We want to get subscribers and views, not by buying them or saying what others want to hear. Thanks so much for your continuous support and feedback. 🤗🤗💓💓

You did an amazing filming of the 2024 Redland International Orchid Festival. This year had unprecedented hot/humid weather like no other time I can remember. One of the attendees posted it was 115° F on Saturday. I appreciate your commitment to attend this show. Be well and travel safely home.

People are saying it's hot but not too many are wearing hats, and no one brought an umbrella...I would've had a protective hat, neck fan and an umbrella..while lugging a wagon🥵🤠

You two always do such a phenomenal job filming these shows! I was too overstimulated on the Saturday of the show and trying to take it all in--I couldn't imagine filming on top of everything else! Y'all are pros for sure! I'm sorry the heat was so terrible. Even though we both work in the heat everyday, it was truly brutal. Hopefully Motes can take the feedback and make it better for next year. We wish you both all the best!

The show would have been a lot better if it had been cooler. Great vendors, great plants. But it was not a good experience.

    Hi Vicky and Sergio,
thanks for another video. Really appreciate your channel. So sorry to hear you were suffering. Vicky you really caught the sun a lot. Looks like you got a bit of a sun burn on your forehead, hope that's not too bad. That would have been too much for me too. I would have gotten a cattleya nobilior, something we just cannot get here and been out of there.
I just want to say thank you for you honesty too. I know many youtubers try to stay positive on purpose. The idea is the nicer and more positive you are the better your views. There probably is a lot of truth in that. Still I value honesty over fake niceness every single day.
I know I do not make any friends with my comments. Just last week I uncovered a huge what I would call a conspiracy theory where someone admitted to me they lie to their viewers on purpose because they think it is funny. This person was absent from youtube for several years and decided to come back. When I discovered what they were up to it boiled my blood more than the heat from this event would have done for you.
But have I been able to warn anyone or convince anyone else? Hah. Orchid people do not like to hear about the negative aspects and will more likely block such people than listen to them. But it has inspired me to bring out a video sometime this year if I ever get round to it. I've never made a youtube video and am not really very good at that sort of stuff. But I will try. It really annoys me that people prefer the fake kindness and get fooled to believe complete and utter lies as a result.
I would estimate this person has cost the orchid community at least 1 million dollars by now by spreading lies on purpose for their own personal gratification and nobody questions it, even thanks this person for helping them out with their growing. I dunno, maybe I shouldn't care but just like orchids getting taken from the wild and getting destroyed in their natural habitat, for me to discover what this person is up to is frustrating and even more frustrating is that my "negative" message just gets ignored by anyone I have tried to tell about it.
Ah well, that is life I guess. All your videos have been really informative in comparrison.
The one thing I heard someone in the background mention in your video really triggered me I will admit, it triggers me every time. You could hear someone say "orchids thrive on neglect". Nope I just will never agree with that message. Might be something people feel like others want to hear and convince them to buy an orchid but if they lose the orchid then it just isn't the right message long term.
So to wrap up this long winded comment which like said will not get me any likes heehee, the two things I would tell any grower in order to be successful long term is that orchids need constant love and attention and the most important one which is so controversial is that if you fertilize weakly then you will end up with weak orchids.
So many people think and get convinced the weaker you fertilize the better orchids will bloom. This is just such a hard one to debunk. First of all the only people that say this is people that have never ever compared the two.
It would be like somone asking someone which is better pasta or pizza. And them saying pizza ever time, pasta sucks. When in reality they have never tried pasta, they loved pizza so much they think they never need to try pasta because they love pizza so much and thus why even try pasta, they know it would not compare. It's just not the way to be successful long term. You have to try different things and then come to a conclusion.
So in regard to fertilizing what so many don't realize about orchids is you can fertilize weakly and the reality is the orchids will grow and even flower just fine, there will hardly be a visible difference to someone who fertilizes strongly.
The main difference will be the long term results. Orchids fed weakly are more likely to grow slightly smaller leaves, will be more susceptible to insect aattacks, will be more susceptible to crown rot, fusarium attacks, fungal infections and root rot.
That is the main difference. So to hear people say they thrive on neglect and to fertilize them weakly is a notion I am trying to weed out. But like said nobody listens to me anymore these days. I honestly do not care. The only reason I care is because the orchids that I do care about deserve better lol.
Anyway, hope you still managed to find something nice. Take care you two. Keep up enjoying the hobby while you can.
    All the best, Tom

Hi, Tom. We always value your comments and suggestions. We would love to help you do your video. It sounds like you have been around orchids for many, many years, and know many many people in this business. The good and the bad. Our goal is to have the old guard, such as yourself in our videos, so is there forever for future generations of orchid hobbyists and growers. Again, don't hesitate to call us. We can also showcase your collection. We can even have you only talking and not showing you. We've done it with other viewers. Thanks again, Tom, for watching and always giving us your input and feedback.
      Many regards
      Sergio.

I thought the same thing on switching the show dates. The Redland show should be in January and the inside Tamiami show should be in May. It was hard to enjoy. It was so hot and crowded. The Lemonade guy was the biggest hero. It was hard to see everything and it was overwhelming. It was like a maze.and I got lost trying to find my way out. But I did pick up some nice orchids.

Honestly, I don't understand why Dr. Motes runs it outdoors in Miami in May. I can handle the heat, a lot of people can't. You have vendors coming from places that aren't used to it and they are there outside all day for four days. They should try to move it to March or April, or October like they did in 2020.

Amazing video as always. I was there on Friday from 9-10:30AM and I thought I was going to pass out from the excessive heat. I missed many vendors because the heat was just unbearable. I still managed to buy a few orchids though. Great place and amazing quality orchids from many vendors but too hot.

I went on friday this year thinking it would not be as crowded as last year big mistake you can not even walk around with plants in your bag to many people in a small place the heat does not bother me. By the way i like your videos

    • @vickyslikes
      @vickyslikes  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hi, Williams. It is too crowded. To us, the experience is supposed to be of relaxation and taking your time choosing the right plant, listening to the vendors suggestion as to how to grow them. We would rather go to the smaller shows. We are so pleased and happy that you like our content. Thanks so much from the bottom of our hearts 💕
