  • Starting to need something to tow a cart around the yard and reduce my time mowing. Why buy new when you can learn and hopefully save something from the scrap heap?

Another vote for seeing Part 2! Part 1 is very helpful for working on my Bolens Eliminator,

Worked on a lot of those Briggs opposed twins. Great engine.

Hello Luke, How did the project work out? I'm about to start on the same machine, and I found your first video very, very helpful. Did you have any subsequent editions?

Any idea how to reach the stator in this?. Im having charging issues. Any place to find diagrams or info?

The easiest thing to do would be to look up the model and engine code through something like partstree.com, that can give you a decent diagram and you can then find the part number for the stator and such. You should be able to find that stamped on a plate that's on the engine itself. I personally haven't taken down that engine far enough to get to the stator, but my guess is it would be on the backside of the flywheel which means you'd need to pull that off.

Hi Luke, I have the exact same old Bolens which I'm doing an engine overhaul on. I'm having a few problems and wondered if I could ask you for your advice? It's a great old thing and I would like to keep it running as long as possible. Thanks. Richard Hawes

Certainly! I'm not an expert, but I feel like these sort of things are very much worth keeping off the scrap heap.

Hello Luke, thanks for the reply, I,m English living in Italy, my Bolens is the only one in Italy, I had it sent over fom the UK. Any way its in great condition but the rings have gone so i have new pistons and rings gasket set. I have started to take it apart what is the best way to take the old pistons out? never worked on one of these before, i had assumed the barrels could be removed but no,,,looks like yoy have to remove them from the conrods,,, Any help would be great. thanks
