    So, a search at my lys site came up empty when i searched for "stitch saver" and it looks like hollow tubing. Is that what it is? Can you provide a link?

      Sure, I buy it by the spool here: amzn.to/3MEsnSO
      I also have a blog post all about it here:

    I love a rolled hem on socks (with a picot, where you purled) rather than ribbing. I just followed your tutorial. And it was a game changer!

    Brilliant...no pulling out crochet cast on stitches!

    That is SO cool! I have yet to make myself a garment but wonder if this could also be used for a top down ribbed neckline? And also, can the provisional stitches be knit directly from the stitch saver cable? Knitting around two needles looks a bit awkward & inflexible to me; or does that just take practice?
    Thank you again for this, and ALL your tips 💐✨🙏

    I have used Judy's magic cast on with two sets of needles in the past and then knit the two edges together later. Very similar technique.

    • @LauraNelkin
      @LauraNelkin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the big difference is that JMCO has a row of knitting between the needles, and this cast on does not!

    just discovered your channel and like your content. Two questions, I think I can guess, but why did you make the turned under hem smaller in gauge? Also do you have any tips for a neat transition from stockinette to rib? I have tried many and have yet to find a way that makes the transition look smooth and integrated.

    • @LauraNelkin
      @LauraNelkin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, that helps the fabric that is on the WS of the hem stay turned under! Great question! I work my purl sts on ribbing "reverse" i.e. with the left leg to the front of the needle, and I use a smaller needle for my ribbing.. have you tried that?

    Could this be done in the round? I just completed picot cuffs on top down socks and this would have made picking up the cast on stitches so much easier. Thank you for sharing this technique.

    How do you sew the open ends closed afterwards? If you had to sew a front and back panel like this how would it work?

      You can do that with Lola's Two Timing Technique, which is coming out in a few weeks!

    I am using this to start the sleeves on my Bling T. What do you do when you need an odd number. It appears that the stitches are created in pairs.

    Just came here from seeing this on IG. So fun! One of your commenters there asked if this technique could be used in a tubular cast-on and I am wondering the same thing! Aside from the surprising convenience of using the stitch saver, wondering if this would result in an even neater, sturdier ribbing? And also wondering about needle sizes and whether there would be three needle sizes used? 😅 (since ribbing is usu done in a smaller size than the body of the work.) Maybe too complicated but very interested in your thoughts! (Have subscribed.) Thank you!

    How can I do a turned hem on a top down sweater? I would prefer to do this type of hem instead of the 1x1 ribbing.

    • @LauraNelkin
      @LauraNelkin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, you would knit to the desired length, then work a turning row by purling on a RS row, and then work st st on one ndl size smaller for a few rows... then you'll bind off and whipstitch the hem down to the inside of the sweater!
