The contacting M$ for a code, sounds like you were trying to disable bitlocker and something went wrong. I completely agree with you on the frustration. I don’t think bitlocker should be enabled by default. I have both the Ally and a Steam Deck and I am blessed enough to have my desktop. But, having a kid makes it extremely difficult to play at my desktop. Now I can stream from my Deck. And I prefer to Stream to my Deck rather than the Ally, because of the resolution making it more difficult to read small text. Having this pickup and go is great. The whole nap thing, it’s hard to have my SteamDeck or Ally on the go, and usually have a Miyoo Mini for quick pickup and put down. I love my Steam Deck. Completely agree, very dad (who enjoys gaming) should get a Steam Deck.
Your title immediately caught my attention. I'm a 74 yr old dad, and my last gaming console was the PS3. I asked my two college grad sons for a Steam for my birthday, last month (I even offer to split the cost, they declined and paid for it themselves). So, now I'm catching on old favorites and games I missed out on, especially with the Deck's emulation capacity. I plan to post some of my new video game adventures on my TH-cam channel. Thanks for the video.
Soon as I saw the video.....clicked like straight away! Completely agree with everything....dad of 2 under 3 years of age and the steam deck has been a blessing. Decompressing at night when everyone is in bed....few hours of gaming on the deck is what the doctor ordered!
I haven’t had my own console since my kids started coming along nearly two decades ago. I picked up a Steam Deck almost two weeks ago, and I’m enjoying the heck out of it. I now look forward to car lines picking the kids up from school, lol.
Yep 100% it’s a nice way for us dads to still game with little ones. Love that I can easily pick it up and play anywhere for as little or as much as I want.
I am so happy to hear someone talking about this! I've got a toddler with autism, another kid on the way, and 2 jobs. Free time is RARE and PRECIOUS. Steam Deck has helped me fall back in love with gaming. Shout out to all the gamer dads!
My kid's three and a half months. Im so glad I pulled the trigger on one. He was at the hospital for a month and being able to take my mind off things was a huge blessing. My wife and I were able to play together while we waited for surgeries. Hopefully others find your video!
I have the Ally X and installed Bazzite dual boot. Best thing ever! Especially having kids. Like you said can still be all the great things and still game😊
This was one of the best videos I have seen for the year of 2024 I appreciate your insight and also your opinions on the balance of work and fun with being a father myself❤🙏 I pray you continue to do well in everything you do!
Switch did this for me as I came into fatherhood. Steam decks been a nice addition. But it’s constant need to charge makes it not quite as fruitful for short burst sessions as the switch. Grabbing a razor kishi has also been a treat as I like streaming my PlayStation and Xbox as well. Happy dad gaming!
Man I feel like the switch did a number on me lol. I went from an og switch to an OLED to an rog Ally and steam deck. The battery life is up to par on these handheld PC's just yet but I got 2 100wat battery banks for me and my son...
Valve has done a great job removing friction from PC gaming. Verified games are just download and go and many of the Playable games are the same with the difference due to small text or having to use the onscreen keyboard. This is so convenient when time is of the essence. When people claim the Steam Deck suffers from this, that and the other what they fail to recognize is the price for the base model, the native Steam ecosystem and not everyone needs to be gaming on ultra settings.
The Steam Deck is a game-changer as a dad of five! The sleep mode to instant resume is the killer feature. I am still surprised that a handheld console might be the best console I have ever owned.
Man I’ve been plotting on the steamdeck for months now, 9 months into being a new dad and my PS5 is collecting dust. I found myself experiencing exactly how you felt about turning the PC on for just 20 minutes before daddy duties im definitely gonna cop one now seeing this
Great take, I personally perfer using a gaming PC and steam link to a cell phone with a good phone controller. It works perfect even remote play when I'm at a different house. I do have the backbone, a 2 gig fiber connection, 2gig nic card in my PC and wifi 6e. Works perfect for those who want to play while connected to an internet connection. The only downside is always having to be online. So give or take it can be an issue. Steam Deck for the win.
This is actually why I love my switch - just being around the kids while they play and I’m on the couch just chillin’. So much better than being tucked away in front of my pc. Exactly like you said.
As a father of 2, 100% agree. Got a LCD a few months ago, got unlucky and kinda fried it.. was just lucky the store repaid the full price and I instantly spent it on a OLED. Its hands down the best gaming experinece ive had in many many years and ive had pretty much every console and regularly upgraded pc.. now everything but the deck is catching dust or for kids 😅
Preach brother! 😂 I have 2 kids and the steam deck was how I was finally able to find that balance. I'm able to play more now than ever. Just paid $300 for a 512GB LCD model
Right on brother! My wife and I are getting ready to welcome our second-born into the world in less than two weeks. Already having the really late sleep schedule means I'll be the one who is up with our newborn, and the steam deck means that i can have her in my arms in the wee hours of the morning when she wakes up and I will have something to do while she falls back to sleep.
This is so true. Thanks for this video and I have the steam deck only. I sold my Xbox and switch since it was collecting dust. But I want a console again but this video helped me realize that I can’t sit in front of the couch with my toddler wanting my attention.
I bought a steam deck while my wofe was pregnant, when my daughter was born i sold it and bought a switch, the steam deck was just too large to carry around with all of my daughters things plus the battery was just not there. Now shes 2, and sleeps thiugh the evenings, i have the time back. But in think i will wait for switch 2 . Great video btw
I couldn't agree more. I ended up getting an rog Ally I loved it so much I got a steam deck so my son can use it cuz its slightly easier for him to get right into a game.
As a father of two (and one on the way), I’ve been looking for a console where I could balance dad life with gaming. The Steamdeck does look pretty sweet, and it has a lot of pros to it
Who would have thought the bathroom, of all places, would be the place of choice for playing Like a Dragon? Or that a co-sleep bed with the baby would be the place to work through Trepang²? Steamdeck really is the modern day Game Boy, except much more advanced . It helps you sneak in gaming time in those minutes of the day when you would be twiddling your thumbs anyway.
new to the channel, I'm probably older than you but have no kids. I enjoy your content and your delivery and I hate that I'm probably going to buy a new handheld/system after this video lol.
Never give up gaming why people feel like they have too give that up is crazy ! I'm 56 years old I've been gaming since Atari ! Have two adult sons a high end Job and I have my gaming room now ! Even when my kids were young it was great my kids love gaming ! Most men quit gaming because the wife is complaining ! Just have balance !
The Steam Deck OLED is👌🏾 I rarely game on my 3060Ti PC anymore. And I suspect I won’t need a gaming PC after the next Steam Deck is released. My taste in games has also changed.
I play steam Deck 2-4 hours per day after work. It breaks my heart because my Steam Deck won't work properly now because of the 200/400 mhz bug. I've heard this also happens to OLED. I'm just planning on getting a Nintendo Switch.

It's interesting that some Windows users who criticize Bill Gates haven't explored open-source alternatives. If you absolutely need specific Windows-only programs, mobile versions often exist as alternatives. I'm passionate about encouraging people to consider open-source options and make mindful choices about their operating systems. Supporting alternatives to major tech companies can help create a more diverse and competitive software ecosystem.
This video is BEYOND the truth. I'm married and have 5 kids and being able to be in the same space as everyone and get a little gaming in on the Steam Deck is a HUGE win. Or when I travel for work I can get a little gaming in. Or even sitting on the toilet, Steam Deck is hands down the best gaming experience for parents.
I am thinking about getting a steamdeck, just for emulation. I want to play my PS2 games at higher resolutions and frame rates. and there are a lot of PS2 games that I want to go back and play. I have a PS2 that still works, but going from playing games at 4k 60 fps on my Xbox Series X to 480p 30 fps on my PS2 is really hard lol.
@@yokiryuchan7655 ABSOLUTELY!! If you are ONLY getting one to emulate your games, I would consider getting a used one, or waiting until they go on sale on steam. There is an app called EMUDECK that essentially does all the heavy lifting for you. It downloads all the emulators and configures them for you. Just add your LEGALLY acquired roms and bam your ready. Now, to help decide between the LCD and the OLED, I guess it depends how you will be playing it. If you will mainly be playing handheld, the OLED is definitely worth considering. If it’s gonna be docked to a tv or monitor, you can save more money with an LCD Hope this helps!
