For vintage items with a smell, you can try spraying them with vodka - just decant (cheap) vodka into a little spray bottle and mist and allow to dry. Doesn’t always work, but it’s gotten that “vintage” smell out of things I’ve bought secondhand. It also works on delicates - I spray my blazers down after I wear them to extend the time between dry cleanings. Good for your wallet and the environment!
