Great video, as always, but... every time you switched the camera to show your DJ stand you lose audio while you kept talking. Just saying for future reference.
I bought two used Ikea adjustable desks with additional adjustable shelfs for my monitors and extra stuff for $20 each and set them up in the garage. I get compliments from people that come over.
I figured if you divide 40” by 72” (6’) you get 0.56 then multiply that by your hight in inches, then this would probably be a good shout as a starting point. Then adjust to suit. Not sure that chopping onions and the hight of the kitchen worktop, which is a standard hight is the real solution.
BEST BELIEVE WHEN I BOUGHT CDJS AND THE 1000s I DEFINITELY went to IKEA for a night build! My tables are always about mid ribcage high, lowest ill go without my back screaming is waist high, and thats still pushin it for me..... bellybutton or ribcage high is IDEAL for me.
I have an IKEA Brada laptop support, 42x21cm angled, very good for tilting my controller, CD players or effects units etc. I have two of them placed next to each other on my shelf and they are ideal! Cost about £10
i played a gig when i first started and i hunched the whole time.... yeah i ended up emceeing and barely mixing... i couldnt even bother mixing it was dreadful.. just echo out next song
I made an IKEA hack from 2 Kallax's (1x4) angled in a corner and one resting on the other with legs on the upper one. Tabletop is 86cm and the surface of my turntables is about 97cm, this is pretty ideal for me. Im aprox 180cm in height, but according to your guide my desk is a little on the low side...
I use an Ikea Kallax. Just meaured it and it's 30 inch! Never even thought about it being too low. Maybe I better sort it out before I turn into quasimodo.
Hey Phil, had a custom booth made for my DDJ100, went for 100cm shell height, im 177cm, after. years of crouching I can now mix for hours, result. Wheres the link to that gorgeous laptop stand>
Mind reading Phil strikes again! Standing dj controller table is my next purchase. Seen a foldaway adjustable height table (90cm max height) on Amazon. Big table area too. Up to now I've been doing Friday Night Disco kneeling at the coffee table! 😂
I've seen PLENTY of djs that are short, and they definitely stand on flight cases or crates, Yaeji for example at Coachella I think....dont remember exact venue so don't hold me to that lmao
Shouldn't people at least be aware of the industry standards and DMC requirements? That way, new DJs can practice on equip the way it will be at the club. No surprises. Also, I'm 5"0' if you have height suggestions for me let me know :). Now, my counter measures 33 inches from the floor to the top of the counter (not my turntables) and I discretely bring an adjustable step in my bag (its a little embarrassing). Its in my rider but they always 'forget.'
Don't think many people care, to be honest. By the way, you're not the only one who does that, and not only in DJing - my very short barber does the same!
I use a Jasper's A-frame that used to hold my synths. The synths got packed away when my partner moved in. But she's capitulated on the DJing, so the A-frame has come in really handy. It's big enough to fit a 2x4 Kallax underneath... and the worktop I made for it holds my controllers, 1210 and manageable amount of live gear :)

while I appreciate the vid, his platters look hella low. the top of your equipment should be just a few inches below elbow height. this is not only for DJ gear but just about anything you do.
I realized after years of DJing, it's better to have the desk too high than too low. If too high, you just have to bend your elbow more.
If I had to choose either one I'd go slightly too high but that might be because most of the time I get the opposite lol
My mates have sneered and laughed for years.....I’ve used my ironing board for years. Thanks for the validation Phil. Hahaa
A pleasure James!
I cannot see any info on the Laptop stand please can you put up the info on it as it look ideal, thanks.

@@digitaldjtips Thank you for the information, that is a great help as I really like the look of that stand, keep on spinning.

Yes thank you, we spotted it too and have fixed it for next time
Thanks Phil.... Happy Christmas 🎄
And to you!

Awesome
for me - about 7" below my elbow or 37" from the ground. currently using computer monitor stands on a fold up banquet table.
Cool :)

Good formula! Although estimating based on a kitchen work surface is a simple way too 👍

Sounds perfect!
For those who just want to use one ear headphone, consider Reloop RHP-10. I already use it for years on a row.
Classic vibes :)
Great video Phil - really really useful.
Pleasure to help you.

Awesome, very popular :) Not by much, if it feels comfortable and you're not hunching over your decks then great

Sounds like a plan! lol
Nice setup , a lot of DJ Control with mess cable , i love that RANE too
Yeah, we need a good tidy up!

Dear Phil you are always talking about feet and inches but most of European companies countries use metrics system!
We also mentioned metric, and did all the conversions in the article, too.

Sounds like what are you sound has definitely been a step up
I had to makeshift a adjustable Architect table, with rack mount ears to hold my Prime 2. so i can adjust it to a certain angle.
Sounds like a good solution
Great video. What kind of laptop stand is that?
djtips.co/stand :)
Bar stool goes a long way and you can tuck it under the edge. Also place your drinks on it away from your equipment.
Makes sense, similar to how we do it here
Do you add the equipment on the 91 or 101 cm or are these figures including the kit
Excellent video. I'll like to please find out what height I need to place my webcam when djing at home? I'm 6ft 1. Many thanks
Level with your head, or very slightly higher.
@@digitaldjtips Many thanks
6ft isn't average height for a man, and 5ft 8 is definitely not average for a women factually speaking.
In the UK the average height for a man in 2010 was 5ft 9
@@nickhaw3528 . Yes, and world wide it is even shorter
Fairpoint… Alan
That's what I commented on the piece on the site. US gov figures are 5'3"-5'4" for women.

Hello, Phil. Here in North Las Vegas.
Thanks for watching Gerald :)
How do U figure out the width & length 4 two 1200 turntable & a 62 Mixer?.
Get the specs from the internet.
Hi,
I have a tv table that’s 75cm tall with my numark NVII. Do you think I should higher it up?
Yes, depending on your height maybe an extra 20 cm
Surprised you showed us your mess of wires Phil 🤪🤪. Great setup tho 😎
I’m not proud
That's why I shave my head so I can use headphones the right way. lol
Lol :)

Up to the belly button good measure, if u got cdj they are double thickness than DDJ 1000srt controllers
That is a good point
Just about over your belt is perfect . But i am 5'7 lol
Whatever helps you work it out :)
