    Thank you for the video. I bought mine 17 yrs ago from an antique store for 60$. Had no idea what it was just knew it was old and I like it. The take down screw was missing, and one of the sights, the rear sight. I put it up and 2ya I looked up parts for it found the screw for 8$. Gave them my card number and screw arrived in two days. And it fired. Still looking for the sight though. I enjoy this rifle. Enjoy & Peace to all those lucky enough to have one.

    Thx. I have the same rifle. Paid 205.-. It’s a shooter! Love it and very easy to collect. Small repairer but stock but still has buttplate. I just love it!also have my dads Remington from when he was six. He’s now 96.

    I really like mine . I have three of them. Two of them were 25 calaber. One was 32. I rechambered one 25 to 25 hornet. Changed the firing pin to centerfire using 22 hornet brass opened up to 25 calaber shortened the case under 25 hornet length. So a 25 hornet will not chamber they are a smokeless load and way to hot. I load black powder. The 32 is changed to centerfire shooting shortened 32 long colt brass. Black powder. The third rifle was also a 25 stevens 1915 model. Barrel was really bad. I put a 22 MRF Barrel on it. Moved the firing pin to shoot the MRF. Fitted a new extractor for 22 mag. They are fun to shoot.

    I've just watched your video and had a look at the serial# on mine. It's 705 so only 11 apart from yours. I live in New Zealand, so amazing they ended up so far away!

      I'm working on one right now and had to do the same thing, mine is 715 only 1 number apart but the letter to start matters cause they only used 3 digit numbers so after A 999 they went to B 001. Mine has a different rear sight it is a flip up type. I'm trying to find out if the 1894 has a spring eject or not. The one in "logcabinlooms" video is a 1915

    My dad’s 1894 passed to me. Unsure of which variant or the year of manufacture. The content of the markings are the same as yours (including name, city, patent date identifying it as a 94) but they flank each side (on the octagon) of an adjustable rear sight (set further back than the sight on yours; front sight differs, presumably to match the rear). A serial number similar to yours appears in same place. He never called it a “Favorite”, though it appears on butt plate. He called it a Stevens “pack rifle”, given it’s a breakdown model. Hair trigger, that’s for sure. Accurate and works well despite wear, though the extractor fails from time to time. Small and handy, for sure. A lot of fun to shoot, for all ages. Thank so much for creating this video.

    A nice little rifle, I have a similar example. Thanks for posting this, they are rarely seen. I recently bought another Stevens, a tip up barrel in .32 rimfire, quite nice, a very good bore but ammo is scarce and expensive.

    Great vid bro I learned a lot I didn't know it was called a swing block, I love mine, it's a accurate little booger with the tiny sights, mine is in great shape except for the butt plate it's chipped and I have no idea where to get one. Anyways thanks for the great content

    Here's the information I acquired on a blog. The J. Stevens Arms Company was the mfg. name from 1916 - 1920 and it had a steel butt plate. The mfg name changed in 1921 to J. Stevens A & T Co. until 1932 x 1933 ? and had the plastic butt plate. Before 1916 it held a different mfg name i can't recall now. So in conclusion I believe yours to be mfg after 1921. It is a beautiful gun and I have an early one like yours and a Little Scout that both are J. Stevens Arms Company and I want more.

    We’re they making 1894’s and 1915’s in 1918 I paid $160.00 for mine at local auction. Bought at below my limit so that was good. Is it a shooter or is the barrel going to have a liner one day. like your crisp working sounds

  • @mic982
    @mic982 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A bit of an enigma: I've seen this beautiful little rifle referred to as a 'Rolling' block, a 'Falling' block and now a "Swing or Pivot' block action. One reputable site claims this action was patterned off the older English Martini Falling block, so - go figure. My #17 is just like this except for a smaller, tapered forearm and w/o the patent notation: 'Apr.17, 94' on the barrel after U.S.A. Also, mine does not half-cock but closes fully on the hammer (without discharge) after closing the breech. I do have some extraction issues, however.

    Great video.
    I was hoping this was going to be the same model that I have but this one seems to be slightly different.
    I just picked up two Steven rifles that I had at my local gunsmith who checking them for safety.
    I have an old Stevens Junior that is in near pristine condition inside the barrel so that one is fireable but unfortunately the Stevens favorites that is marked with the patent date October 29th 89 is not in fireable condition according to this gunsmith.
    The chamber does open when The lever is opened the hammer does cock back halfway but you cannot pull it back any further. he also said that the inside of the barrel is so worn out you can barely see any rifling.
    Now I’m reading on some websites that some of these barrels were not rifled.
    Do you happen to know if this one was not rifled and if so maybe it’s not as bad as shape as I thought.
    But they’re still the issue with the hammer not caulking back which unfortunately is probably a death sentence for this gun to be fired.
    Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    bought one today. very similar but roll marks are very poor. For example, a lot of the letters didnt get fully indented into the metal. For some reason it doesnt click and stay at half cock when using the lever action. has a a number 73 at bottom.

    My hammer doesn’t half-caulk when I push the lever down, anybody got any answers or solutions for me?

    • @snowlothar45
      @snowlothar45  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Common problem with these. The parts wear to the point where there is too much slop to allow the hammer to be pushed into half cock. This one required new hammer and lever pins, a new hammer and a lot of fitting to get it to function.

    I just picked up one of these it looks exactly like yours all it says is 25 Stevens on the side and the patent year stamped is 94. Does this mean it's the 1894 model in 25 rimfire?

    • @Bayan1905
      @Bayan1905 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, .25 Stevens is a rimfire caliber and it hasn't been loaded since before World War II.

    Thanks for referring to this as a swinging block instead of a falling block. They are very nice simple rifles but are not quite built for a steady diet of todays hi velocity ammo.

      Subsonic ammunition is the way to go. I’m still looking for an original tang sight as my Stevens has a flip front sight and is missing the tang sight.
