It's pretty safe to assume that an old school guy like Paul never thought that a couple videos of him replacing a toilet flange and exterior light would lead to his son affording property and a very modern garage build funded by an online income. To document and edit all of their different jobs is way more difficult than it looks. I'm positive that there was some behind the scenes doubt whenever filming cost them time early on.
In one of their earlier episodes they said Jordan really had to encourage Paul - like he just knew that his dad's personality would come through, and that while Jordan believed they could be successful, neither of them expected it to get as big as it did. But yeah I def get the impression they have been doing family projects together for a while!
When grouting a porous stone that absorbs moisture, I ALWAYS seal the face of the stone before grouting so that the grout can't stick to the stone. It makes clean up easier. I learned this with 500 sq ft of porous pennsylvania bluestone and i hated life for several days:(

I really appreciate that Jordyn and Summer lean towards less common selections. I really like that backsplash. Hey Paul, for what it's worth, I worked with a guy who said to grout seal porous tiles before install because it made clean up much faster. Never had to do it myself, but could be worth something in the future. Awesome vids as always!

i bought a cabinet hardware jig like you have and man i tell you what its the best purchase ive ever bought since we do super big high end homes and have like anywhere from 50-100 cabinet drawers to do makes it super easy and simple
It's really late in the project to make a change like this, but I have to warn you that down draft hoods are basically useless. My parents had one for a long time, and there were two big issues. 1: pans in the front row don't get ventilated and 2: pans taller than the hood don't get ventilated.
Been a subscriber for a long time and I’ve always appreciated how you show mistakes and what you do to resolve them. First time I ever used a grout bag was on glass block mortar. They come in handy. Kitchen looks great
Ah, your work brings great memories for me. I grew up with my Dad's best pal building stone veneer fireplaces. The white quartz was always the biggest stunner. I got to spend years helping what may have been the finest stone mason of the 20th Century build fireplaces. I can honestly say he would be a huge fan of you guys.
Because of where the stove is I dont think the backsplash will get excessively dirty. Fantastic job as always, we should all be so lucky as to have someone like Paul to learn from!
Paul is the kindest, most patient Dad and father in law I’ve seen. Putting in that stone looked like a big mess. I could see the struggle. As usual though, it turned out great. Those cabinets look great. I will be considering those if I need cabinets in the future.
Quick tip when using the grout bag and you could maybe get away not cutting the tip. But after filling, hold the top with one hand, squeeze around the bag with the other and pull through your fingers until you reach the material. Then you'll spin the bag and with a combination of spinning and squeezing, the material comes out easier. Learned it from my dad who's a bricklayer. Pretty much the same way cake decorators use piping bags.
That backsplash is killer. I wasn't sure about it, but you did a great job and I love the look. Your cabinet alignment around the stove went perfectly to get the stove in the correct position for the countertop that was measured before you moved everything and put it back, well done! That downdraft range hood is designed for a cooktop, not a stove, that's why it's backward. You can probably get the correct part from the company to reverse it, but I am sure you can modify the existing to make it work and it will look like it came that way. The kitchen looks fantastic!

In Fredericksburg, TX, there's a lot of of houses that have this finish, but they use limestone. I think they use it almost as a finish over the limestone to slow the mildew process.
Took me about 3 days and a dump truck full of "f#@ks" to install one of those downdraft hoods, you have your work cut out for you Paul. I'm sending my prayers right now

One the paper towel roll drawer. Should of left the top of the drawer, providing strength since the drawer will be opened often. Then need to paint the base below the roll white, so it blends in with the rest of the cabinet
28:18 - the drawers to either side of the range look like they might come very close to interfering with the handle on the oven door. Hopefully the spacers on both sides of the oven were sized to give clearance to the door handle. Otherwise the countertop behind the range can have a bit more removed to slide the range in some more.

Wife and I did this exact backsplash in our kitchen! Did everything the same way only thing extra was a bead of lexel on top of the thin set @ counter top/stone behind the sink!
If you want the natural look of the stone to remain and make it easy to keep clean. You have to use a stone sealer before grouting around it, makes it a little glossy and wet look but easy clean while grouting and later, would use it in the end so seal the grout as well
Paul , Rad, Summer another great video. I hope the stone is not too hard to keep clean. They did not recommend sealing this stone knowing it will be in a kitchen. As always leaned something new today. 😊

You should have used a mat stone sealer before grouting and after to seal the grout from cooking stains.
Would recommend pulling a 220V line for your oven even though you don't need it right now for a gas range.
I believe they did/left it in place.

Stone sealer before you filled the joints would've made life easier . Colored mortar would've worked better thinset is for setting tile & stone .

25:05 you should get some white edge banding for the inner part of the drawer.

My guess is that downdraft hood is meant to be used with a cooktop where theres no oven under it.
Correct, but the online description says "universal fit for all ovens/ranges"... not Amazon btw

Still could install a countertop popup receptacle. The hubbell ones are a little expensive but very nice.
Thin crack expanding spray-foam works great under those loose thresholds.
