This is our song of TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS. I have been listening 🎶 to this song everyday. 🎵. #BEHIND MOUNTAINS ⛰️, THERE ARE MOUNTAINS ⛰️. We wi) fight until the end.....
to be honest Haiti has lost the sense of spirituality and culture it once has everyone is trying to be American . even though I was born a decade after this song there is still this feeling that I get from listening to it
“Boukman” was actually a Jamaican slave brought to Haiti. He was one of our founding fathers when it came to the Haitian revolution. He used “voodoo” meaning the earth and its natural resources to fight back against the slave masters, taught others the same. We were never “Christians”. And that feeling you get listening to this, I get it too.
This song is fire! I'm Blackamerican, but I heard this song at a party some years ago and the Haitian contingent went wild, flexing their Haitian pride. It is definitely a protest song and even though I don't speak Creole, I feel the energy and the soul of a people yearning to be free.
I am truly glad you were able to connect to this song brother. I am 42 yrs old and came to america at age 7 and had to leave my family and paradise. It is this sound and frequency that kept our spirits strong and alive! Ayibobo to you brother from your brother from another mother! Them guitar strings soothes the soul. Ayibobo!
This was hands down one of the best Carnival songs in its time. The following year they did Pale Pale and was super fiya. Check it out also. Peace and God bless you brother.
They were part of my college experience. Had the pleasure to see them do a concert. My Haitian people went absolute bonkers when they played. Just bouncing up and down, waving their flags. It was a sight to behold. Party time Haitian style!
IT'S BEEN 30 YEARS AND THIS SONG HAS NEVER LOST ITS SPIRIT. this song is older than me and I still jam to it at parties ESP AT 1:43! i love my country. i was born here and raised in a strict Haitian household, i cook/clean, speak Kreyol, and everything. my birth certificate says "American", but i'll always be HAITIAN TO DE BONE
Samba is the Taino name given to a poet or a singer who was chosen to speak for the people. You must understand that the lie that all the Taino natives were destroyed is a way to make us forget of all our ancestors. Today, haitian combine Taino and African culture to create a unique, unshakeable culture. Some of the Veve, which is an Ashanti writing today known as Ghana includes Taino God of fire as well. Today Taino/African descendants are in the South, South East, Cental of Haiti.
English Translation. Chorus: If I fall, I won't be defeated If I go back, I won't be scared If I'm hurt, I won't be afraid For the drums of the spirits are beating Samba, Samba, hooray! Verse 1: Boukman Eksperyans is here To talk about the strength of the Haitian people Who in the face of adversity Rise up and overcome For our land is a place of abundance But our children still suffer from hunger Let's come together to fix this problem For we must take care of our own Chorus: If I fall, I won't be defeated If I go back, I won't be scared If I'm hurt, I won't be afraid For the drums of the spirits are beating Samba, Samba, hooray! Verse 2: The spirits of our ancestors are with us Guiding us along our path We must keep their memories alive And honor their legacy with our actions For we are the children of Haiti And we must never forget That the strength of our people Comes from our unity and our love Chorus: If I fall, I won't be defeated If I go back, I won't be scared If I'm hurt, I won't be afraid For the drums of the spirits are beating Samba, Samba, hooray! Bridge: Let's come together, hand in hand And work to build a better future For our children and our children's children Let's put aside our differences And embrace our shared identity For we are Haitian, and we are strong Chorus: If I fall, I won't be defeated If I go back, I won't be scared If I'm hurt, I won't be afraid For the drums of the spirits are beating Samba, Samba, hooray!

As the first free black colony some remembered our spiritual worships from Africa but the white saw it as a threat and labeled Voodoo a devil worship!

it's a beautiful haitian song, God gave lots of musical talents to Haitian people though we are poor.

Chorus:
If I fall, I won't be defeated
If I go back, I won't be scared
If I'm hurt, I won't be afraid
For the drums of the spirits are beating
Samba, Samba, hooray!
Verse 1:
Boukman Eksperyans is here
To talk about the strength of the Haitian people
Who in the face of adversity
Rise up and overcome
For our land is a place of abundance
But our children still suffer from hunger
Let's come together to fix this problem

Verse 2:
The spirits of our ancestors are with us
Guiding us along our path
We must keep their memories alive
And honor their legacy with our actions
For we are the children of Haiti
And we must never forget
That the strength of our people
Comes from our unity and our love
Chorus:
If I fall, I won't be defeated
If I go back, I won't be scared
If I'm hurt, I won't be afraid
For the drums of the spirits are beating
