    I think my favourite thing about this song is that the climax doesn’t involve impossible high notes. If anything, the chorus feels higher, making it feel more vulnerable. But the climax focuses less on high notes and more on that really sustained note, if feels angry and frustrated and I love it.

    • @cryofpaine
      @cryofpaine 3 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      Exactly. A high belted note would have been too cheery, too triumphant. I love Sara Bareilles. She's such a great songwriter.

      @@cryofpaine I’m glad someone agrees with me! I feel like there are way too many songs that include unnecessary high notes just to be impressive, I’m glad she didn’t do that here

    this song doesn’t require the crazy high notes that people find impressive now. It requires pure, raw emotion. And that’s what makes this song so completely and utterly impressive. If you want to impress others with this song, focus less on technique. Focus on the emotion. Find how this song relates to that nagging feeling in the very depth of your soul that sits locked in the closet in the back of your heart. That’s how you can make this song impressive while sharing your story on the stage.

    • @moreandmore7962
      @moreandmore7962 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kinda disagree about focus less on technical. You wouldn't want to hear totally strained voice rendition of this already emotional song. Jessie, Jeremy, and Alison sang this song with full emotion but still maintain great technique. And they didn't really oversang like the others, even though they did improvised some parts (well Jessie's excluded since she's the original cast). Their improvisation felt so natural while the others were kind of, just my opinion, a bit too much.

    The song itself is already superb. Sara is truly a master in songwriting and is underratedly famous for her singing technic. Yes, her tone of voice is somewhat not very distinctive compared to other singers, but the fact that she can write, sing, and always has a different version from the recording version is showing how genuine and genius she is. My favorite is Shoshona Bean! She is incredible & when she performed that song in the studio, she was so connected that it was like she lived it. I also loved the vocal run that Jordin Sparks & Morrisette Amon did. I thought Morrisette was a little too growly at moments, but that long note with the run ending it was stunning. Lucie Jones was so emotional from the bit that I heard & I would love to hear that one in full. She has an absolutely gorgeous voice. I wasn’t crazy about the clip they grabbed of Jessie Mueller. I think she sings better than that clip. The one I really didn’t like was Thunk. I thought that clip sounded awful. It was pitchy & all over the place. Might have been an off day vocally, which I totally get, I have those days too, but I’m sure there has to be other clips that sound better than that one. Loved watching this as a whole though & getting introduced to other broadway singers that I may not have gotten a chance to hear otherwise.

    1:47 Jennifer Owens (best technically and similar to the original)
    2:16 Jordin Sparks (a great improv)
    4:31 Jessie muller (by far the best at sending the emotion)
    Honorable mentions:
    3:02 Shosana Beans
    5:17 Moreieseto Amon
    Jeremy jordans

    even though this is the climax, the part in the song people expect to have the “most emotion,” that not what it really is. yeah, it’s the climax and it has big the long notes that every big broadway song has and it’s the big number in the show, but the thing is that every single word that is sung in this song carries SO MUCH. you can’t just give up on the low notes after you’ve hit the high notes because “you hit the big notes, hallelujah!” no. the word, sentence, song does not finish after you’ve hit the biggest note. it has so much emotion all the way through and if a performer doesn’t convey it ALL it doesn’t work. that’s why i love this song so much. it is such a STORY and there is so much told through it. the broken beginning which builds up to the anger and ends with an even more broken ending is GUT WRENCHING, but it only works if a performer gives it their all throughout the entire song.

    It’s not about the notes. It’s about the feeling. And a lot of people forget that when performing.

      @H B c5 is a note that even most tenors can hit. It doesn't need the range of a soprano. So no, girl, Morissette was just oversinging.

    • @awmf___
      @awmf___ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jorgeescudero5034 so you're just ignoring the rest who also added riffs and runs there..... I'm clear that riffs and runs aren't the part of Broadway..... why only bring out Morissette?????....if you listened to the whole performance of Morissette you'll feel the emotion....that's the main part of a song... technicalities are not always relevant.... there's no rules to sing it that way or this way.... it's clear your just jealous or doesn't like her... what's the point of commenting on things we don't like..if not just shut up

    I don’t know about you guys, but Jeremy Jordan did pretty good for a dude. Usually this song is meant for higher pitched songs ( I don’t sing so I have no idea what the term for it is ) and that was really impressive and didn’t sound like he just came up with it the night before. Well, even if he did, he would probably kill it.
