if this doesn't sum up the pocket change that's me...Fiona what would I do without you. I breathe a little easier because you put yourself out there. Thank you for sharing yourself in your passion. Thank you for being a flower of song. I heard somewhere that radio waves escape the earth's atmosphere and travel infinitly through out space. My life would be so less rich without this intensely resplendent soul. I have always felt connected to her, we're in the same ship drifting this Universe. Thank you, Fiona. I'm with you, OP. ❤️
Fiona's pronunciation and delivery of every word on this is brilliant. I would put it up to interpretations that Harry Nilsson delivered with his phrasing. Even if it was the only song she ever sang, she would be brilliant
amazing pianist....perfect collaboration with superb singer, kind of reminds me of collaboration between superb jimmy scott and michael (pianist/armenian...probably). FIONA WE LUVYA
She really made the song hers, for me it just hits different than the og one. This one sounds way more melancholic and tired of feeling socially maladjusted but somehow still craving in a little hope the need of being "conventional". Comfort cover ngl. Thanks for sharing this.
This will forever be a treasure in my heart. That little giggle Fiona drops when the pianist goes off the hook at the end just makes me smile every time. So much beauty

You are so wrong. Her parents were both performers, yes. But she was not sheltered, nor rich, nor protected. Do YOUR research. You think she can give a performance like without ever having been through some sort of trauma? Oh please. You clearly know nothing about her. You don't deserve to.
Even if all that was true you´re not talking about her ability to write and perform that is what really counts. Odes to herself? well, I would like to hear ego-odes from everybody if the results are as amazing and creative as Fiona does. The power of jazz is not only affection transmited through having overcome poor situations, and in anycase her deep feeling could come from inner woes that in fact every human being could feel, those that has nothing to do with their shelters or lack of, that´s why she´s so effective.
+Marissa 87 My issue lies with your mention of "struggle" as if it's appropriate to consider one persons pain any more important or worthy of regard due to the "era" they're from or whatever other circumstance. Its such a naive thing to say. I don't know Fiona personally, (if anyone here does please speak up), but I'm confident in saying that she would totally disagree with you. Pain is pain. Struggle is struggle. No matter the severity. The way in which she processes that and forms it into art is no less worthy of acknowledgement or reverence. She deserves to stand side by side with the artists mentioned above. Just as anyone else with the same talent would.
+Marissa 87 You need to relax, hopefully you read my response above. The amount of times you have rewrote, erased etc your comments is ridiculous. You're clearly not a fan, so do yourself a favor and go away.
This is essentially a melodic and lyrical sequel to The End of a Love Affair by Billie Holiday, right? Same tempo, same affects, etc...not that it's a bad song, and I do adore Fiona singing it, but when it comes down to it, it's practically the same song.
Last album is unlistenable (no, I'm in fact into experimental music so don't start with BS)... She ought make a jazz standards album, then we could die Happy.
@@henryor-k which only means that critics can be not a good guide to good music sometimes...Idler Wheel IS millions times better. I judge not only as a fan but also as a musician with proper knowledge of music.
@Littleneddygtw true, but she is different, and better than "where people usually go", sadly her last album was so dissapointing for me. Idler Wheel and the previous Album are experimental albums, like Bolt is. But Bolt is simply inferior musically talking, I'm so tired of discussing this with "die-hard" fans when in fact most of them didn't knew Fiona till the last album and I've listening her for years and years. She IS a jazz (indie rock) singer but she may not want to take that path, for whatever reasons. In my opinion doing that standards album would pave her final road to Glory, because she is not worse than Ella Fitzgerald or worse than Holliday... She is that good. But she doesn't take her seriously enough or jazz seriously enough.
I have a lot of respect for musicians who have the voice and go to a genre that is not so popular but they love what they do instead of trying everything to go to the mainstream music.
It's sad, and a little annoying, that we have a lot less of this and much more of, well, shit.
That’s what a real singer does.
