This is a good tutorial, but I found that it is easier to use a mail log plugin. When you make the change to the admin email and the site "sends" the authorization email. And I can then go to the mail log and click the authorization link there. Fewer steps, no danger of messing up the database in phpmyadmin, quick and easy.

Hi Lisa, The email in Settings > General is pulled from the admin_email field in the database. Maybe you have some sort of database caching through your hosting or a caching plugin? Or maybe the change in the database didn't take for some reason?

I don't know the answer to that. Sometimes other mail functions don't work right in WordPress either and using an SMTP plugin can help with those. SMTP plugins allow you to send email not from WordPress, but from another email sender. Sometimes the issue is with your host. Most hosts disable email functionality by default to stop spammers making accounts with the host. You can try contacting your hosting support to have them turn your email functionality on. But even with going through those fixes, I've found that the admin email change confirmation email rarely goes through. In fact, in making this video, that was the first time the email has ever come through for me. Kind of ironic. I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!

This didn't work for me. Here's what I did to make it work. I poked around for a minute or two in the same database and noticed another table called users. There's a column on that table called user_email. Find your user name on that table, then update the user_email there. Bob's your uncle. Appreciate the info on how to back up, access and edit the back end database.
Thanks for your help with this. You solved my issue was that it still says "the new address will not become active until confirmed" in the note below the address. - that's the only reason I'm here. So its showing the correct one for me now. I guess I can ignore that line remaining even after I have confirmed? Thanks again. This was very helpful.
Hi, when I login to myPhpAdmin it is showing the right email address that I changed it too, but the wordpress settings is still showing the old email and saying it has a pending change. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks!
The database is the truth, so the only thing I can think of is you’re seeing a cached version of the WP settings page. Can you try accessing that page with a different browser?
So how do I log back in with the password for the old login? I try to login to wordpress with the new email, but it tells me the password is incorrect. how do I update the pw?

On Wordpress, it has a admin email and a username email, for mine, they are the same email, but on the username one, there is a word missing, I tried to add it, and clicked update. When I did this it says click notifcation, but nothing came, and tried numerous times. I found what you said, but can only see the admin email. For example. the wording is correct on it. I want to change password, but it is saying put in username or email, when I put in the email, it comes back saying there is no email, when I went on to username email., that's when I noticed one of the words were missing from it. On the php, option names, is there one for username email ?
Hi Naveena, You can do anything you set your mind to. It will be a little harder to work on an iPad versus a desktop computer, but you should be able to build pretty much anything you want to on a iPad.

The reason we're doing it manually is because the email doesn't arrive, so it's no surprise that the email doesn't arrive. If you mean you don't receive any email from WordPress, then I would try contacting your host's support to ask them to check if the mail function is turned on for your account.
