- A delegation from the UK Household visited in early December 2022
Cavalry Regiment at the invitation of the Landeskommando Berlin. We support
the four days of the visit with the camera.
The Household Cavalry consists of two sister regiments:
1) Household Mounted Cavalry Regiment in mounted ceremonial service for the Royal House in London
2) Household Cavalry Regiment, a reconnaissance regiment based in Bulford, Wiltshire
The personnel of both regiments rotate between both regiments.

Brilliant video that brought back memories of living in Berlin when I was a child, when my father was stationed at Montgomery Barracks in Kladow, Great to see the close bond between British and German Troops.

Was a Crab at RAF Gatow 85 to 90. Berlin was full of British servicemenl/Women at the time. Best place ever.
Yeah went to the Harvey School at Gatow, enjoyed our weekly visit to the German class within the school. Made loads of great friends. Also loved the weekly trips up to Trueman Plaza to the PX in the American sector.
Also returned to Berlin while I was stationed in Bergen Hohne, even went back to the flat we lived in at Lanzendorfer Weg Kladow, although I wasn’t permitted to enter the base at Montgomery Bks. Great week back in Berlin.
Was there when The Devon and Dorset, Black Watch, KOSB, Kings, 1LI, RWF were part of the infantry support of Berlin. Played footie against them all. The PX was great. Yanks always well looked after.
No. 2 Dress für Offiziere, dann auch noch in der Kavallerie-Ausführung - der Herr Major ist sicher der am besten gekleidete Soldat dieses Videos.

Ja, war ein sehr interessantes und vielseitiges Programm, das das Landeskommando zusammengestellt hatte. Video ist deshalb doch etwas länger geworden als geplant.

Ach, wenn man sich an diesen adretten Uniformen doch mal ein Beispiel nehmen würde. Unsere Streitkräfte sind so gut ausgebildet, die haben mehr als Polyester von der Stange verdient.
Wie so oft Herr Baumann ist ihnen ein sehr gutes Video gelungen. Es war das Stundenlange Rohmaterial das bei den Terminen entsand wirklich wert,

Berlin what an amazing place to live and work back in the 80's for 2 years. The family still think of it as our best posting. The German people and Army were great to work and live amongst. Great video many memories.

I can support that. A fascinating and exciting city. The trips into the east were enlightening. I often said I would like to have been able to just walk through the Staaken checkpoint and stop at an East German pub for a meal, a drink and a conversation with an East German. Many years later (after the wall had long gone) I did exactly that, just drove down the Heer Strasse and kept going. Had a wonderful meal washed down with good German beer. I tried but could not find the exact location of the checkpoint. So much had changed for the better. Thank you to the people of Berlin - you tolerated us as a necessity and treated us well when we met you socially. In general nice people to be living amongst. Many thanks to the beleaguered people of Berlin.

For two countries that have fought two major wars against each other in a century we seem to get along just fine under normal circumstances. Spent nigh on 30 yrs in Germany loved every minute of it.
Well, pls do not forget that even British Royals have since Queen Victoria and her hausband prince Albert from Sachsen-Coburg Gotha relatives in Germany. Complete superfluous fighting each other due to political misbehaving / miscalculation. And just think of 1685 born (in Saxonia) Frederick Haendel, the famous composer, who became a britsh citizen as well as "King´s Brgade", english (excellent) infantry / cavalry under command of the duke of cambridge, when the ruler of Hannover was "King of England". So good bonds have been since long time, but politics,...really happy , having you here !
@@veritas_13 Actually the German roots of the British crown go way further into the past. When queen Elizabeth I died without an heir one of her distant cousins inherrited the throne because he was the next in line who wasn‘t catholic. He at the time was the prince elector of Hannover which created the Hannoverian dynasty starting with George I trough IV and eventually leading to Victoria who in return split the two crowns of Britain and Hannover again. That was because in German lands women were bot able to inherit titles.
King George I was crowned in 1714.

Yes, I remember learning my first English words during Kindergarten age from Sesame Street at american TV in Berlin.
The real boost and getting the feeling for the language was reading books by Agatha Christie.
Two very happy years posted to the Olymiastadion complex (lived across the railway lines in Scottweg) 1978-80. Would have loved to extended my postiing but was sent to Cyprus for a couple of years. Served 16 years in variety of locations - nothing surpassed Berlin. My son was born in the British Military Hospital there (now a school I believe). I've returned to Berlin a couple of times and hope to live long enough to repeat that.

Fantastic video, Herr Baumann! One of your best! I loved getting a more in-depth look inside Schloss Bellevue, more than we usually get to see during the ambassador accreditations, for example. The viewer got to along for the ride with the Brits and learn alongside them. Had to laugh at the one soldier suggesting that perhaps the Guard Battalion ought to give horses a go sometime. 😂 Imagine that! I was thinking, too, while watching our general's military honors that I hope before his term ends, President Biden gets to travel to Germany and can be the recipient of military honors himself. I think our man Joe would really genuinely love it. Sehr cool video!
Thanks! Why you never know what happens in chancellor Scholz's head - just saying this and doing the other - you do not know whom he will receive in Berlin. In time we have a dangerous lack of leadershiop in Germany and Europe. But it seems like the nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, the baltic states, Poland) take the initiative filling this gap.

Dragoner passt aber so gar nicht zur Idee der Panzertruppe, weil dort die Pferde üblicherweise nur zum Transport benutzt wurden. Deutlich traditioneller wären Ulanen.

Wir leben in einer Zeit (und vor allem in einem Berlin) da steht u.a. zur Debatte, die Iltis-Straße in Dahlem umzubenennen.
Was jemand gegen das süße Tier hat?
Nichts natürlich. Aber ein Kanonenboot im 1. WK war so benannt und nach diesem wiederum wurde die Straße getauft.
Das weiß heute kaum noch jemand, genauso wenig wie die Geschichte um die Großbeeren-Straße, deren Name für viele Menschen heutzutage einfach nur für einen Ort steht und weniger für eine Schlacht. Aber auch das soll schwinden, denn schließlich war da eine böse militaristische Schlacht in der es angegriffene Deutsche tatsächlich wagten, sich zu verteidigen.
In solchen Zeiten (Zeitgeisten) scheint es schier unmöglich, irgendwas Traditionelles - wie alte Uniformen - wiedereinzuführen, statt abzuschaffen.
@@neinnein9306 Hm, traurige Beispiele, aber Berlin und sein Stadtradt sind was anderes als die Bundeswehr und ihre Repräsentanten. Wenn sich Berliner Politiker von selbsternannten Heilsbringern ihre Straßen umbenennen lassen, selber Schuld. Es gibt aber immernoch genug Bürger in dieser BRD (vor allem außerhalb von Berlin) die etwas mehr Tradition im Wachbattalion sehen würden wollen.
@@leone.6190 Das stimmt. Aber das alles muss gegen die Cancel-Meute auch wieder geschützt werden. Und Berlin spart sehr gerne bei den eigenen Sicherheitskräften. Hier greift leider vieles ineinander, was nicht ganz rund läuft.

Officers of the Blues and Royals used to have a tradition of clicking their heels to attention when indoors and hatless or some such thing, unique to that regiment only. I would imagine it would have raised some eyebrows among the German officers had it been done during the tour heh!
You can hear it in one of the last sequences while getting a sports gratification.
A tradition adopted when Kaiser Wilhelm was Colonel of the Regiment.

Das ist die normale Dienstkleidung außerhalb der militärischen Ehren. Das Wachbataillon sieht sich als Infanterie-/Jägereinheit mit Zusatzauftrag militärischer Ehrendienst.

Vielleicht werden die Soldaten des Wachbataillons beim Gegenbesuch in UK dann ja auch ganz lässig in Tarnkleidung und nicht im No. 2 dress empfangen. Das das Wachbataillon den militärischen Ehrendienst mittlerweile nur noch als Zusatzauftrag sieht, war mir nicht bewusst - ist das auch offiziell so verankert?
@@ingoahrens1916 Den Doppelauftrag gibt es schon lange. Der wird aber kaum bemerkt, weil das Wachbataillon medial immer mit militärischen Ehren dargestellt wird.
Das war übrigens kein expliziter Besuch beim Wachbataillon, sondern beim Landeskommando Berlin. Wachbataillon war also nur einer von vielen Programmpunkten. Der Gegenbesuch war bereits Anfang 2022 durch Oberst von Studnitz, Kasernenkommandant der Julius-Leber-Kaserne, erfolgt. Er wird da wohl die graue Uniform getragen haben.
Der Erstauftrag des Wachbataillons ist der protokollarische Ehrendienst, der Zweitauftrag Schutz von Regierungsstellen.
Der Feldanzug ist der Tagesdienstanzug im Wachbataillon und generell von Heer und Luftwaffe.

Zwei Dinge blieben für mich auf deutscher Seite hängen:
Oberst Braun mit Barett und roten Kragenspiegeln, in Verbindung mit der Luftwaffenuniform ja nicht so häufig.
Und: Dass die Erfurter im Protokolleinsatz dann auch Barett statt Schiffchen tragen. So oft haben wie sie ja auf diesem Kanal noch nicht gesehen.
Die Erfurter sind recht selten in Berlin. Oberstleutnant Wunderle war vor Alexander Kalweit 2. Musikoffizier des Stabsmusikkorps - also Heimspiel.
@@BTBconcept Ich habe in der Tat nur ein Video mit den Erfurtern gefunden, VM Tschechien. Aber auch da mit Barett, da hat mich meine Erinnerung getrügt.
Irgendein Insider hatte ja mal die Vertretungsreihenfolge genannt: Siegburg - Neubrandenburg - Erfurt.

Da der Paradeanzug, Luftwaffe, mit Barett getragen wird, hat auch das eingesetzte Musikkorps in Luftwaffenuniform mit Barett aufzumarschieren. Deshalb ist das Luftwaffenmusikkorps Erfurt als „Vertretungsmusikkorps“ für das Stabsmusikkorps ebenfalls mit Luftwaffenbarett ausgestattet.

Ich wollte nur höflich fragen ob die Bezeichnung Paradeanzug ein sprachliches Überbleibsel ist, da es ja de facto keine Paraden (im Sinne einer Parade) mehr gibt. Me Likewise in 1971 when I was stationed with 2LI in Montgomery barracks . No Bundeswehr then . We patrolled the wall and played games with the Volos. The Kurfürstendamm was a vibrant western outpost of hippies and pot in a grey east Germany.

Möglicherweise das chinesische Generalstabsabzeichen. Er war vor der Aufstellung des Landeskommandos Berlin als Verteidigungsattaché in Peking eingesetzt und hat wohl auch den Generalstabslehrgang auf Mandarin gemacht.

@@BTBconcept Den Verdienstorden erhielt General Uchtmann allerdings bereits am 24. Februar durch den ehemalige mongolischen Verteidigungsminister Nyamaa Enkhbold in der Mongolischen Botschaft in Berlin. Uchtmann war vor seiner jetzigen Tätigkeit Verteidigungsattaché an der deutschen Botschaft in Peking mit der Nebenakkreditierung Mongolei.
Jaja das Leistungsabzeichen zu meiner aktiven Zeit noch in Silber gemacht, heut als Reservist kaum noch möglich das Abzeichen für Reservisten zu machen, da bei uns in Baden Württemberg die einzelnen Disziplinen kaum Angeboten werden. Grade die ABC Ausbildung ist besonders Schwierig weil wir auch die Beorderten meist keine ABC Ausrüstung haben. Leider sind die einzelnen Veranstaltungen oft sehr weit auseinander Terminlich wie von der Entfernung wenn ich Schießen, BFT, Marsch und Kleiderschwimmen habe fehlt der ABC bis der dann ist hat mindestens eine Disziplin das Verfallsdatum wieder erreicht und man fängt wieder von vorn an um es wieder nicht zu schaffen. Aber egal bei mir steht der Spaß an der Teilnahme im Vordergrund ob jetzt auf dem Abzeichen ein R ist oder mein altes aus der Aktiven Zeit am Kittel ist juckt mich eigentlich nicht.

Ach ja... Wenn man die Uniformen der Briten sieht ist man direkt wieder neidisch, dass deren Schirmmütze noch dienstlich geliefert ist und unsereins beim Heer selbst für gutes Geld nachkaufen muss um adrett auszusehen.
Ist ein wunderbares Video geworden. Auch die Sequenz der Traditionsräume des Wachbataillons schaut ausgesprochen gut aus.

@@andreasvonstudnitz4390 Bei allem Respekt, aber das ist nun wirklich Geschmackssache. Bei der Einstellung um Minute 9:40 ff. muss ich sagen, dass ich da deutsche Modelle bevorzugen würde.
Insbesondere wenn die nicht mehr ganz fabrikneu, leicht abgewetzt, bisschen siffig und schief getragen in einem Piloten- bzw. U-Bootkommandanten- Gesicht hängen. Aber das ist nur so ein Fetisch von mir, der keiner weiteren Beachtung bedarf. ^^
@@neinnein9306 Schmö... Ich finde die Schirmmütze für HUT allerdings, bei aller Affinität (siehe Profilbild), auch etwas hoch bauend.
Einer der britischen Schirme war allerdings irgendwie gegen die Wand gelaufen und war eher ein Schild statt eines Schirmes. Das meinst du vermutlich.
@@chrizigroba Ja, dass der "Wandläufer" vorne nochmals extra platt wirkt, enging mir nicht. Aber das ist es nicht. Es wirkt allgemein eher wie ein Zylinder, auf den oben ein Frisbee gesetzt wurde, als ein harmonisches Gesamtkonstrukt. Ich mag es halt, wenn der "luftige Körper" etwas atmet und leicht absackt.* Aber wie gesagt, das ist ja Geschmackssache. Wie beim Wein halt :)

Wenn ich mir das Video so anschaue, dann muß ich sagen: Küche und Musik funktionieren! Wann zieht der Rest endlich nach? Die Zeitenwende ist seit 10 Monaten angekündigt! Und nun dieses Puma Desaster. Man könnte echt verzweifeln!
Die Sache mit dem Puma ist schon seltsam. Ich halte mich da in der Bewertung zurück, weil die Truppe im letzten Jahr noch glaubhaft überzeugt war, dass er einsatzfähig sei. Von der aktuellen Panne war auch bis Anfang Dezember nichts zu merken. Der Puma war der Ministerin seitens der Truppe im Februar noch als Fahrzeug vorgestellt worden, dessen Kinderkrankheiten überwunden sind.

Weil eben nichts genaues bekannt ist, bin ich da zurückhaltend und gehe mal davon aus, dass es so wie bei Fluggeräten läuft: Wenn beispielsweise an *einem* NH-90 irgendein Defekt auftritt, werden *alle* NH-90 erstmal am Boden gelassen und die Sache wird geprüft. Nach Prüfung und Freigabe durch die Flugsicherungskommission kann der Normalbetrieb fortgesetzt werden. Je nach Komplexität des Defektes kann die Unterbrechung Stunden oder Tage dauern.
@@heinrichgerken4469 Warum sollte man auch alles was jetzt gerade beim Puma (oder einem anderen Gerät) falsch läuft groß breit treten? Mir hat ein älterer Kamerad versichert, dass als er noch auf dem Marder saß in Übungen auch regelmäßig 40-50% in Manövern ausgefallen sind.

Warum trägt der eine deutsche Luftwaffenoffizier das Barett der Luftwaffensicherung/Objektschutzkräfte, er hat doch eine andere Verwendung?
Seine aktuelle Tätigkeit ist "Verbindungsoffizier beim Bundespräsidenten". Verbindungsoffiziere behalten ihre bisherige Optik bei. War bei seinen Vorgängern auch so: Marine, Fallschirmjäger, Panzer ... Oder siehe Protokoll BMVg: th-cam.com/video/l_ffU91n2e8/w-d-xo.html

Ich dachte nur bis vorhin, bei der Luftwaffe gelten Abweichungen in Gegensatz zum Heer nur so lange die direkte Zugehörigkeit zum Verband besteht, z.B. auch Ärmelbander wie Boelcke etc.. Unabhängig davon, danke für ihre informativen und interessanten Videos!
Die Vorschrift besagt, dass in Kommandos, das Ministerium oder vergleichbare Dienststellen (wie hier das Bundespräsidialamt) versetzte Soldaten das zuletzt getragene Barett weiter tragen dürfen. Deshalb trägt ja auch der GI, der Artillerist ist, sein Fallschirmbarett aus der Zeit, als er Kommandeur der DSIO war, weiter.
@@andreasvonstudnitz4390 Danke. Beim Heer war es klar. Bei der Luftwaffe ist Schiffchen oder Schirmmütze der Standard und das Barett eine Ausnahme war meine Annahme. Gut, dass jetzt eine gewisse Wertschätzung gegenüber den Objektschutzkräfte da ist. Als W10 einer KR/S Sicherungsstaffel war man damals bei der Luftwaffe nicht wirklich Zuhause.

@@johnallen7807 indeed, it is a base of British Army, with Union Jack, British Guards, military and civilian members of Training Camp administration. A camp must not mean that military units like battalions or regiments must been posted there.
@@andreasvonstudnitz4390 Nice to know, it's a long time since I served in Germany but still have great memories. My main point though was the fact that all units especially heavy armour now have to come from the UK which both takes much longer and costs much more.
@@johnallen7807 as I know from conversation with British army soldiers there is huge regret about that fact that no classical military battle unit is posted in Germany since quite a lot years. But if you consider the massive reduction and amalgamations of regiments/battalions of British Army in combination with the needs of deploying them mainly to Afghanistan during last decades, it was definitely more cheap to have all units posted in homeland. Don't forget about the less costs for stocks, logistics, deliveries, mainetance of camps and accomodations etc. that had influence to the decision to station them back to UK.

Er bezieht sich darauf, dass die Briten auch schon vor dem Brexit zwischen Insel und Kontinent differenziert hatten.
