As someome who went to 2 Afterlife events (São Paulo/🇧🇷), it became something much more than an event, it's now a festival of it's own. In 2023, Afterlife was held in ARCA, a place with a total capacity of 6,4k. This year was at Interlagos motor speedway (the brazilian F1 GP track) and 30k plus people went there (I have to wait almost 2h to enter at the event. It was crazy). Also, it's worth mentioning that Afterlife pushed other artist to create their own audiovisual show, like Mathame with Av:Show and Adriatique with "X" (I went last year. It was amazing!!!!)
I've been following them since late 2017 and since the beginning, i've always found their songs something else, but ever since they started the afterlife audiovisual concept I began to get disappointed it has gotten to a point where partygoers attend these events intending to record only. Sad that I couldn't make it to Afterlife 2022's Arca first edition, it probably was its finest experience ever and glad i wasnt among the 30k audience at Interlagos
This is good, but I think you are missing out on a huge part of the anyma / ToU/ afterlife backstory, anyma and chris avantegarde essentially pioneering the modern melodic techno sound. Before the sign and running, their sound was waaay more progressive. Anyma and Chris avantegarde basically took the sounds of big room from the early 2010s and mixed it with melodic techno, making it more palatable for the EDM audience, allowing those big AV shows to capture a wider audience. This sound got so big that it basically redefined melodic techno, as well as the artists on afterlife, as well as left a mark on the techno and tech house scenes!
Their music is amazing and a more deep house trance sound that I love especially Anyma and Chris Avantgarde. The visuals are an added bonus. I love when the shows are filmed and put on TH-cam so people may not feel like they need to film. No phones allowed is a great policy.
Thank you - this video is very informative and well researched. Living in vegas, a lot of people are not aware who Anyma is but ask me about the sphere shows as I work in nightlife in vegas. This is what I am now sending them
@@daansee i've been following after life since the start, but I have never gotten to see tale of us or any of the artists on the label yet. When they announced the sphere shows, I absolutely lost it! December 28! I get to celebrate my 37th birthday with my favorite current artist! I have Anyma for my license plate, I have the falling man tattooed on me, they are forever in my blood!
I've been in love with EDM for the last 15 years. Been to Tomorrowland, Ultra and Creamfields multiple times and really did try to get to like or "understand" techno for a while because those were the only acts that actually came all the way down here to Uruguay, but it wasn't until I attended my first Afterlife event last year that I actually started to enjoy the whole (not only melodic) techno scene. It's been quite a refreshing journey since then, discovering tons of awesome music that I was just not aware of, not to mention that I'm now able to witness the rise of so many talented artists that are taking over the scene, even here in my country, and I'm grateful for that. I do like to film a few clips to keep as memories, but it does kill the vibe quite a lot if everyone is doing the same at every given time.
People who say that there is no dancing at the shows are just haters. Maybe Anymas genesys shows. I’ve seen tale of us multiple times around the world. There are certain moments where everyone takes out their phones, yes. Those are the moments everyone sees. What nobody sees are the hours of great tracks & dancing. I guess if you’re an older follower I can kind of understand, but you have no say in the artists decisions. You’re a follower, that’s it. Nobody cares if your disappointed by them, because they never sought out to appease you in the first place.
Be it Fred Again, or these guys, I acknowledge that they are talented. But they had super strong financial backing so that they don't have to worry about making a living and can follow their dreams
Pssst, don't look too hard at most actors or musicians then. Most artists either have industry connects or a strong financial safety net. The rags to riches stories are survivorship bias and you never hear about the 1,000 who never make it for every artist that succeeds
Good stuff man, keep it up. I think a second video doing a deep dive on their visuals is worth the while, citing their influences and their collaborators etc. Look I've seen them three times, Los Angeles, Coachella, Miami. If you don't get it, you don't get it. If you've ever watched a rock opera before or listen to a conceptual album, it's just like that. It's not a nightclub performance, it's not a festival performance, it's an auditory visual experience. The DJing is often not great, but the pairing of music, lyrics along with a visual accompaniment is best in class.
I get it if people are just looking at it as visual or expecting dance music then afterlife is not for that. I love edm and usually trance techno is not my type. To be honest I’ve been hooked and wanting to find out more about them after seeing their show online. I agree the last part of the interview clip, their visuals and music combined has messages and that touched me spiritually. Maybe too strong of a word but I get them. Thank you so much for this video, it found me at a right time!!!
Disco gnome changed my life. I was listening to only Eric Prydz and Deadmau5 at the time and to me, electronic music was all about the big explosive drop. Then I heard Disco Gnome at 6am at an after party and I'd never heard anything like it. Now I've been producing music for the last 12 years that all stemmed from hearing that tune.
Hey! I loved this video! It is so well-made and explains the journey of these artists. It would be great to learn about the story or "lore" behind the visuals of Tale of Us and Anyma.

People only see the part where everyone is filming it, but not when people are dancing because no one record these moments to post on social media. Let me tell you a hot take. "Loló" is another thing they use a lot here. Recording on phone during a show is like take a picture when you're having a birthday or visiting a landmark.
