But I have 4-6 hours of homework everyday after school. I don’t have study hall in school because I go to orchestra, which I love, and it wouldn’t be good if I went to orchestra or study hall, because both classes are short. Hedoruis Anims, it's starting to worry me too. It's considered a good thing to not bring work home while school basically tries to penetrate as far deep into your life as possible. It almost seems impossible to imagine not working 12 or 15 hours a day 6.5 days of the week when I'm older. It just sounds so bizarre at this point.

I just started high school and I’m taking all honors and AP classes. There’s so much work I’m so stressed and I breakdown a lot Update: I originally wrote this comment 2 years ago when I was a freshman. I am now a junior taking 6 AP classes and managing my time and stress in an incredibly helpful way. It took time and trial and error but I’ve tremendously improved. To any of you stressed out in school right now, just remember you can do it. Consistently is key. Just keep working hard and you’ll make it. It’s going to be okay.
Im a Jr in high school and my Science teacher is such a bitch she gives us so much Hw and its really really hard to even understand it. what a yelling homework giving fucktard we have to finish this roller coster building project and its done by tomorrow and we just started yesterday nobody is even done yet on it. sometimes I just don't want to go to school sometimes due to that class

The lunch that I have is mostly freshmen(9th grade) kids while only less upperclassmen(10th,11th and 12th graders.)but I don’t know them though. No wonder I eat lunch at the library or at my class. God I hope I’ll have a better schedule next semester in my junior year especially my lunch(either 2nd or 3rd lunch but not 1st lunch)and classes I expect to get while I’ll plan to finish the 1st semester of my senior year next year and be done with high school early for good before going to college. Freshmen year was okay and my sophomore year which was last year was the best school year I’ve ever had. But now in my junior year this 1st semester it’s something I’ve never expected and it’s a shithole. I’m so depressed this semester. Once I pass all my classes this semester possibly with an A and a B,I hope it would get better just to reduce my depression and rebuild my happiness next semester by having a better schedule which would truly fit me. Note:There are 3 lunches in my high school. 1.1st lunch is mostly childish freshmen like every year and I hate that lunch. School home work has caused me to be very paranoid in school and at home. I’m always stressed and if I miss something it’s hard to explain to my parents how school is. I also have some memory issues after a lot of stress. So I forget to do homework a lot and it messes up my grades. School is important, and I realize that, but they need to realize we aren’t kids for a long time. We need to spend our time being a kid, and not worrying about assignments. These are supposed to be the best times of our lives, but now...most kids aren’t outside, and when we grow up we will just think of homework and not being a kid.
As a high schooler who gets alot of homework, I can say first hand that its overly annoying and stressful and if I want to actually have a life I csnt do every last bit of homework, but ever since the pandemic my school has been so much more snitch-y when it comes to literally anything. If I miss one too many assignments I get an email home and my mom drones on about how I "have nothing else to do" and I shouldn't be missing any assignments because school is my one responsibility. And im surprised she can say this shit with a straight face considering that the vast majority of my time outside of school is spent taking care of my sisters. They go to bed at 9 and if I go to bed at 12 I have 3 hours of free time. So if I want to have any free time at all instead of being a fucking workhorse 24/7 I need to miss out on a few assignments. And parents could care less about all the classes you have 90's in. Its that one class you have a 60 in that they won't shut the fuck up about. And then when they threaten to take away your phone its not helping anything. It makes you more stressed, less willing to do the work because your feeling spiteful towards them, and it raises anxiety levels because your phone is the only communication to the outside world now that we cant leave our houses for the most part. So I got a little off track and personal with this comment but my point is parents need to be a little more understanding about grades and instead of threatening to take stuff away if you dont do better, maybe they should try a little more to help you. In the end I know I'll get the important stuff done, so the scolding is completely unnecessary. Im not lazy like my mom says, it has nothing to do with laziness and everything to do with mental stability. When I'm not mentally prepared to be doing 10 pounds of homework I'm not going to be able to. If im not in the correct mindset for homework my brain will get side tracked and I won't be able to focus as well, leading to me taking more time to do it then I would if I had just been in the correct mindset initially. Im not sure if its like that for everyone but thats how my brain works

I feel you, to me it seems like its just being destined to fail. One to many sleep-deprived nights and your sick. You take a day off either from burnout of genuine sickness from the stress and anxiety. And it just leaves another pile to be dumped on you as you rinse and repeat until nothing is left of your soul. Keep fighting brother, there is an end, and on the bright side. We'll get to know what it means to be pushed to the limit.

This is not only in teens. I am a 11 year old girl. I have a teacher that is always giving homework. I spend 4 hours on homework. All week. I only have time to watch this for 11 minutes but I go to bed. Our teachers say they're getting us ready for middle school. But it's not my brother (7th grade) and has less homework. My step mom is at Dover-Sherbon and I respect.

I've always wanted to play a sport in a team, but I've never tried out because I know that I'm expected to earn my placed get good grades. I start working at 4:00 but don't go to sleep until at least after 12:00. That's even without any free time.
My friends and I doubled up on math classes our junior year (We soon learned this was the hardest year). Our other classes have all started assigning homework that in the years prior did not. We were A kids. I’m now a B kid, my friend is a B kid, and the other friend is D to B kid. We’ve started just not doing homework or not turning in assignments simply because we can’t do them all. One day we all stayed up late doing homework and all fell asleep doing homework. We were dead the next morning. When we got to the second math class that’s right after the first one, my fiend layed on the floor, I layed my head on my desk, and my other friend also layed his head on his desk. We all just slept because what is the point in taking notes if we know we aren’t going to be able to finish the homework. The teacher then told us to talk to her before tests to go over everything because she knows we are smart, we simply can’t go on like this. She and the other teachers continue to do this though. The funny thing is that this was today.

I'm not even a teen (5th grader) and I spend 9 hours each day working until 1:00 am. People actually kill themselves over stress of homework, school related things, and I don't think school education boards should make people do homework.
My cat went missing (he's my baby, I've literally had him for 5 years since he was a kitten) and my friends keep turning on me, stealing my money. Not only this but my parents are constantly arguing and I swear they'll get a divorce eventually. At school stuff isn't any better either- the homework is stressful, the assignments too, just in general I'm SO STRESSED AGH so yeah, as a student that's what I go through.

I used to have a teacher who who constantly talk down to us about how we were only doing half the problems every night (which was was what she assigned us) instead of all of the problems on the page like the students of the year before. She talked like it was quantity over quality and she put it like we were under-acheiving and we're lazy when we were in an advanced class and succeeding greatly. Honestly, it hurt a lot of the students in our class self confidence. I know it hurt mine. It's just a thing to think about. Quality over quantity is often times better than quantity over quality. We don't always need a million problems every night.
Almost five years later and there's just as much bullshit and stress caused by schools. I've had two mental breakdowns in the past two days. I have typically four math assignments per day to stress about, other classes to stress about, my country to stress about, and covid to stress about. The world is overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be as overwhelming as my teachers like to make it.

In my school they barely give homework but this year has been very stressful. I'n my country there are a lot of compulsory subjects + we have to choose at least two more. Pretty much every week this year there was a test (a lot of weeks had two), and it's not like there weren't any other things like projects they wanted us to do. Adding the fact that some teachers are absolutely horrible, if you didn't self-study a few hours everyday you just wouldn't get good marks. The school year just ended here thank god, but now I'm starting to really notice the effects of the stress + not having any time to actually live. I haven't been eating well for the past few months because I had to study and no one has the time to cook for me. I also was stressed so I ate less anyways. Now I can only eat very small portions of food, and I get nauseous just thinking about food or smelling it.
This is why I vow to allow the option for homeschooling when I have children. I was unable to fully enjoy my life from about ages 12-24 because of high school/university anxiety. It's inhumane and I highly disagree with modern education. Think about our evolution. Does it really make sense to expect children and teens to cope properly with societal stress while parents are almost forced to be absent so that they can work for the majority of their children's childhood? Why have children when the average person cannot take care of those children on a one parent paycheque. You are working more hours to live and pay for daycare/school/extra curricular activities. When do you get to raise your children? It's awful what we have become!
When I was a long-term substitute at a high school, I figured that my students were super stressed, because I remember being that way when I was their age. We had just moved to Block Scheduling. From the first day I took over (near the end of 3rd quarter), I told my students that it wasn’t gonna take me an hour-and-a-half to teach them a lesson. I taught the lesson (about 30 minutes), went through practice problems with them (15 minutes), gave them a 10-minute break (bathroom, talk, walk around, listen to music, etc.), gave them their homework, and they had the rest of the class period to do it, and I’d be there to answer questions. If they finished early, they could do whatever they wanted, as long as they stayed seated (unless they needed a bathroom break) and had headphones so that no one else could hear the noise coming from their phone. I told them that I didn’t have to stop the lesson because of disruptions, that this is how every class period would be. I walked around the room making sure no one needed my help. If they did, I went to them. I didn’t believe that they needed to walk to my desk (mind you, I was 24 when I did this). I also made sure that they weren’t distracting each other. I told them that they themselves could treat my class however they wanted; whether they cared about their grades or not was entirely up to them. But I said that I would absolutely not tolerate someone distracting the class. I could joke with them from time-to-time, but frequent disruptions weren’t tolerated. Just because they didn’t care themselves, didn’t mean no one in the room did. Some of those kids wanted to do well or at least do better, and I made sure that they were allowed to do so. Those kids had 7 other classes to worry about, and a lot of kids struggled with math. So I wanted to make sure that my class was one class over which they didn’t need to stress.
i dont understand why adults think there lives are so hard they think that they have to work 24/7. they only work for a few hours and we have to stay in school all day. some of us have to wake up super early and sleep late due to the amount of homework we have to hand in the next day.

My fellow classmates get so much work from different classes that some times we can’t even sleep or we go to sleep at 3:00am to only wake up at 6:00am to get ready for school.
I'm a junior. And I have a job. And I'm a part of rotc. Let's tAlK aBoUt tHaT. Wakes up: 6am works out 7:00: get ready for school 3:30:school ends 3:45: Rotc practice begins. 4:30: take shower and go to work 11:00:come home does hw 2:00:finishes work. On average I get 4-5 hours of sleep. On my days off I get 6-7
I’m a freshman which is the easiest year I know, but it is so much work. I stay up until 1am some nights and wake up at 5:30 every day and my friends can’t even hang out anymore because we all do homework for hours on end each night.

Exactly!! I get reading homework everyday and its the same thing "read 20 pages of this book and answer these 8 questions with 2 or more sentences" and thats just my first class if the day! Next is biology where i have to read 10 pages in my biology book almost each day and anwser the questions in them all at home, than i got math which give me homework everyday, after that its history and philosophy, in history we have to read a chapter out of a book each week at home and than in philosophy we have a 2 or 3 pages of reading we have to do at home, even with 35 mins of study hall and one of my classes being a study hall for 30 mins (thanks to circumstanses) im still spending an hour everyday after school on homework alone, that doesnt even include the fact that sometimes i get a week or two week long essay or project to at least 2 times a month. Im so stressed about failing and the kids at my school thinking im just an idoitic brainless nobody that cant even do his homework let alone not fail his classes. Its depressing and stressing and if i was only a shameless man would i not care and hardly even try to do my homework but im not and thats how it seems to always be, im like suprised i havent tried to kill myself yet and maybe its just from the shock of going to this new school and me telling myself that its fine and everything will be okay but maybe it isnt and maybe i dont want to do this anymore

im dead yall. through my whole life ive had extremely bad adhd. without my meds, id compare it most accurately to being on your phone really late at night and not being able to focus or comprehend anything, except youre aware this is happening by your brain against your own volition. homework doesn't take me a set number of hours, if i tried, my mind would actually just melt away. it feels like extreme exhausted. i am a sophomore and do not have wifi at home, we have a hybrid schedule now where i am in school mondays and Wednesdays and online work is required. i have never worked in my life. highschool has changed my entire life. its like.. new year new me except actually, wow. ive had straight A's, meanwhile before highschool i had barely five or four with at least one D. switching has.. bettered me as a person. as well as put extreme stress on me. ive had so many domestic issues, including financial and not knowing where ill live the next day. this is still happening. i have migraines that make me vomit and am basically to stressed i get physically ill every day. i have back and shoulder pain, too. i am not used to having done any work, now i am in hon eng, hon bio, offline, and... its too much. i am in a bad place. i wish theyd understand, at least, i do not have wifi.
when i was in eighth grade i had a full blown anxiety attack in the hallway because i had been so overworked desperately trying to do well in math... i failed another test and snapped. i had to sit in the counselors office because they were worried that if i didn’t start breathing i would pass out. when i got home and told my parents they just told me to try harder next time. I WAS 13
I find school very stressfull because most of the homework is long and when you study you forget then get a failing grade then you have more stress because then you have to deal with parents yelling at you because of bad grades over a Math test
Adult life is easier and more peaceful than high school and teen life This is the schedule for an adult: Get up in the morning and have work from 9-5. Take the commute home, do a couple of hours of housework, cooking etc. Then you have a good few hours for watching tv, relaxing etc. before going to bed. And you pretty much have nothing to do on weekends aside from a couple of hours housework, errands etc. For high school, you have school from about 9-3:30. Then when you get home, you're pretty much doing homework until bedtime. And you have to study for the whole weekend as well. High school students also have to worry about a load of other things including: researching colleges, part time jobs, extracurriculars and even grades etc. This makes adult life is far less stressful than highschoolers and teens
I am going into high school in a little over a year. I am in 7th grade. Homework is the top stresser for me with high school. Bullying doesn't bother me as much as it does others, but then again I am not really exposed to it because my current school is extremely small.
It’s ridiculous, especially for people who finish homework slower than others. For example, I am currently in high school. In case your wondering I am currently on spring break, so I’m able to post this for now. Since I was in 6th grade, I would come back immediately from home ASAP and work on my homework, and I normally finished my homework at 7:30-10:00 PM. I was a straight A student (and I still am currently) with no break, except for dinner at 7:30. It was unfair for me, as everyone else finished their homework at 5:30 or 6:30. Now I am in high school. I finish my homework normally at 9:30-10:30, which gives me nearly NO BREAK at all and SLEEPING LESS. I am exhausted honestly and everyone else finishes at 6:30-9:00. Such an unfair world and disappointing world of no breaks.

So I recently got surgery and i have 130 math questions, history assignment, i have to read a 4 page packet and answer questions, a science report and i already missed three days out of the week so i have to do all of this in three days because it is already friday. I’m only in 8th grade.

When I was in school in the 1970s I easily had 3-5 hours of homework a night. I'd come home and study and then a half hour for dinner and then back to homework. I'd do home work during my half hour lunch riding the bus.
I remember when I was in public school (I go to an online school now and that was a mistake bc there's so much more work). But when I was in public, me and another girl started having a mental breakdown in class and the teacher just yelled at us and gave us detention for being disruptive

College workload has not been reduced by any means and so high school graduates are now in shock as they experience a much greater workload upon entering college.
To be completely honest, a few years ago when I had depression, I almost attempted suicide because of homework stress. I had about 4-6 hours worth of homework, and barely ANY time at all to spend time with family, and spend time for myself. Yup, picked up a knife, held it to my heart, tried to stab it at myself but stopped a few cm before it hit me. Homework has no reason to exist, we already spend 7 hours in school, excluding preparation, breakfast, and waking up. Sweden's doing it right with banning homework. I hope that there will be an international ban of homework soon. So, thanks, school.

I don’t think my English teacher thinks I have a life outside of school. She has given us 6 chapters to read and analyze every night since we started the book. I’ve never done a decent analysis because I’m always so exhausted from everything else. I barely have time for my other homework, I haven’t even touched my math assignment yet and still couldn’t finish the stupid English assignment. At this point I’ll make something up in study hall and make everything up as I go.
My math grade was low and they put me in a "tutoring" class during lunch, but we weren't allowed to eat we had to do math problems and since we don't get fed we end up getting in trouble because we can't focus. I hate this fucking education system.

My eating habits have been extremely poor, I get 4-5 hours of sleep because my school starts at 7:05 in the morning. Adult life is easier and more peaceful than high school and teen life This is the schedule for an adult: Get up in the morning and have work from 9-5. Take the commute home, do a couple of hours of housework, cooking etc. Then you have a good few hours for watching tv, relaxing etc. before going to bed. And you pretty much have nothing to do on weekends aside from a couple of hours housework, errands etc. For high school, you have school from about 9-3:30. Then when you get home, you're pretty much doing homework until bedtime. And you have to study for the whole weekend as well. High school students also have to worry about a load of other things including: researching colleges, part time jobs, extracurriculars and even grades etc. This makes adult life is far less stressful than highschoolers and teens

I don’t have study hall in school because I go to orchestra, which I love, and it wouldn’t be good if I went to orchestra or study hall, because both classes are short. Hedoruis Anims, it's starting to worry me too. It's considered a good thing to not bring work home while school basically tries to penetrate as far deep into your life as possible. It almost seems impossible to imagine not working 12 or 15 hours a day 6.5 days of the week when I'm older. It just sounds so bizarre at this point.

Update: I originally wrote this comment 2 years ago when I was a freshman. I am now a junior taking 6 AP classes and managing my time and stress in an incredibly helpful way. It took time and trial and error but I’ve tremendously improved. To any of you stressed out in school right now, just remember you can do it. Consistently is key. Just keep working hard and you’ll make it. It’s going to be okay.

The lunch that I have is mostly freshmen(9th grade) kids while only less upperclassmen(10th,11th and 12th graders.)but I don’t know them though. No wonder I eat lunch at the library or at my class. But now in my junior year this 1st semester it’s something I’ve never expected and it’s a shithole. I’m so depressed this semester. Once I pass all my classes this semester possibly with an A and a B,I hope it would get better just to reduce my depression and rebuild my happiness next semester by having a better schedule which would truly fit me. Note:There are 3 lunches in my high school.

School home work has caused me to be very paranoid in school and at home. I’m always stressed and if I miss something it’s hard to explain to my parents how school is. I also have some memory issues after a lot of stress. So I forget to do homework a lot and it messes up my grades. School is important, and I realize that, but they need to realize we aren’t kids for a long time. We need to spend our time being a kid, and not worrying about assignments. These are supposed to be the best times of our lives, but now...most kids aren’t outside, and when we grow up we will just think of homework and not being a kid.
As a high schooler who gets alot of homework, I can say first hand that its overly annoying and stressful and if I want to actually have a life I csnt do every last bit of homework, but ever since the pandemic my school has been so much more snitch-y when it comes to literally anything. If I miss one too many assignments I get an email home and my mom drones on about how I "have nothing else to do" and I shouldn't be missing any assignments because school is my one responsibility. And im surprised she can say this shit with a straight face considering that the vast majority of my time outside of school is spent taking care of my sisters. They go to bed at 9 and if I go to bed at 12 I have 3 hours of free time. So if I want to have any free time at all instead of being a fucking workhorse 24/7 I need to miss out on a few assignments. And parents could care less about all the classes you have 90's in. Its that one class you have a 60 in that they won't shut the fuck up about. And then when they threaten to take away your phone its not helping anything. It makes you more stressed, less willing to do the work because your feeling spiteful towards them, and it raises anxiety levels because your phone is the only communication to the outside world now that we cant leave our houses for the most part. So I got a little off track and personal with this comment but my point is parents need to be a little more understanding about grades and instead of threatening to take stuff away if you dont do better, maybe they should try a little more to help you. In the end I know I'll get the important stuff done, so the scolding is completely unnecessary. Im not lazy like my mom says, it has nothing to do with laziness and everything to do with mental stability. When I'm not mentally prepared to be doing 10 pounds of homework I'm not going to be able to. If im not in the correct mindset for homework my brain will get side tracked and I won't be able to focus as well, leading to me taking more time to do it then I would if I had just been in the correct mindset initially. Im not sure if its like that for everyone but thats how my brain works

I feel you, to me it seems like its just being destined to fail. One to many sleep-deprived nights and your sick. This is not only in teens. I am a 11 year old girl. I have a teacher that is always giving homework. I spend 4 hours on homework. All week. I only have time to watch this for 11 minutes but I go to bed. Our teachers say they're getting us ready for middle school. But it's not my brother (7th grade) and has less homework. My step mom is at Dover-Sherbon and I respect.

I've always wanted to play a sport in a team, but I've never tried out because I know that I'm expected to earn my placed get good grades. I start working at 4:00 but don't go to sleep until at least after 12:00. That's even without any free time.
My friends and I doubled up on math classes our junior year (We soon learned this was the hardest year). Our other classes have all started assigning homework that in the years prior did not. We were A kids. I’m now a B kid, my friend is a B kid, and the other friend is D to B kid. We’ve started just not doing homework or not turning in assignments simply because we can’t do them all. One day we all stayed up late doing homework and all fell asleep doing homework. We were dead the next morning. When we got to the second math class that’s right after the first one, my fiend layed on the floor, I layed my head on my desk, and my other friend also layed his head on his desk. We all just slept because what is the point in taking notes if we know we aren’t going to be able to finish the homework. The teacher then told us to talk to her before tests to go over everything because she knows we are smart, we simply can’t go on like this. She and the other teachers continue to do this though. The funny thing is that this was today.

I'm not even a teen (5th grader) and I spend 9 hours each day working until 1:00 am. People actually kill themselves over stress of homework, school related things, and I don't think school education boards should make people do homework.
My cat went missing (he's my baby, I've literally had him for 5 years since he was a kitten) and my friends keep turning on me, stealing my money. Not only this but my parents are constantly arguing and I swear they'll get a divorce eventually. At school stuff isn't any better either- the homework is stressful, the assignments too, just in general I'm SO STRESSED AGH so yeah, as a student that's what I go through.

I used to have a teacher who who constantly talk down to us about how we were only doing half the problems every night (which was was what she assigned us) instead of all of the problems on the page like the students of the year before. She talked like it was quantity over quality and she put it like we were under-acheiving and we're lazy when we were in an advanced class and succeeding greatly. Honestly, it hurt a lot of the students in our class self confidence. I know it hurt mine. It's just a thing to think about. Quality over quantity is often times better than quantity over quality. We don't always need a million problems every night.
Almost five years later and there's just as much bullshit and stress caused by schools. I've had two mental breakdowns in the past two days. I have typically four math assignments per day to stress about, other classes to stress about, my country to stress about, and covid to stress about. The world is overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be as overwhelming as my teachers like to make it.

In my school they barely give homework but this year has been very stressful. I'n my country there are a lot of compulsory subjects + we have to choose at least two more. Pretty much every week this year there was a test (a lot of weeks had two), and it's not like there weren't any other things like projects they wanted us to do. Adding the fact that some teachers are absolutely horrible, if you didn't self-study a few hours everyday you just wouldn't get good marks. The school year just ended here thank god, but now I'm starting to really notice the effects of the stress + not having any time to actually live. I haven't been eating well for the past few months because I had to study and no one has the time to cook for me. I also was stressed so I ate less anyways. Now I can only eat very small portions of food, and I get nauseous just thinking about food or smelling it.
This is why I vow to allow the option for homeschooling when I have children. I was unable to fully enjoy my life from about ages 12-24 because of high school/university anxiety. It's inhumane and I highly disagree with modern education. Think about our evolution. Does it really make sense to expect children and teens to cope properly with societal stress while parents are almost forced to be absent so that they can work for the majority of their children's childhood? Why have children when the average person cannot take care of those children on a one parent paycheque. You are working more hours to live and pay for daycare/school/extra curricular activities. When do you get to raise your children? It's awful what we have become!
When I was a long-term substitute at a high school, I figured that my students were super stressed, because I remember being that way when I was their age.
We had just moved to Block Scheduling. From the first day I took over (near the end of 3rd quarter), I told my students that it wasn’t gonna take me an hour-and-a-half to teach them a lesson. I taught the lesson (about 30 minutes), went through practice problems with them (15 minutes), gave them a 10-minute break (bathroom, talk, walk around, listen to music, etc.), gave them their homework, and they had the rest of the class period to do it, and I’d be there to answer questions. If they finished early, they could do whatever they wanted, as long as they stayed seated (unless they needed a bathroom break) and had headphones so that no one else could hear the noise coming from their phone.
I told them that I didn’t have to stop the lesson because of disruptions, that this is how every class period would be. I walked around the room making sure no one needed my help. If they did, I went to them. I didn’t believe that they needed to walk to my desk (mind you, I was 24 when I did this). I also made sure that they weren’t distracting each other. I told them that they themselves could treat my class however they wanted; whether they cared about their grades or not was entirely up to them. But I said that I would absolutely not tolerate someone distracting the class. I could joke with them from time-to-time, but frequent disruptions weren’t tolerated. Just because they didn’t care themselves, didn’t mean no one in the room did. Some of those kids wanted to do well or at least do better, and I made sure that they were allowed to do so.
Those kids had 7 other classes to worry about, and a lot of kids struggled with math. So I wanted to make sure that my class was one class over which they didn’t need to stress.
i dont understand why adults think there lives are so hard they think that they have to work 24/7. they only work for a few hours and we have to stay in school all day. some of us have to wake up super early and sleep late due to the amount of homework we have to hand in the next day.
I was up at four in the morning. I was doing more work than my mom who was an RN. I started having psychological problems and quit highschool. It turns out I also had ADHD.

My fellow classmates get so much work from different classes that some times we can’t even sleep or we go to sleep at 3:00am to only wake up at 6:00am to get ready for school.

7:00: get ready for school
3:30:school ends
3:45: Rotc practice begins.
4:30: take shower and go to work
11:00:come home does hw
2:00:finishes work.
On average I get 4-5 hours of sleep. On my days off I get 6-7

I’m a freshman which is the easiest year I know, but it is so much work. I stay up until 1am some nights and wake up at 5:30 every day and my friends can’t even hang out anymore because we all do homework for hours on end each night.

Wake up at 5:40, do some home work I didn’t do last night from falling asleep
6:30 get into car, cram for that test and the other test
7:00 wait in school gym til 8 studying
11:00 during lunch break finish up homework for classes after lunch and cram for test after lunch
2:30 during study hall study and do homework
3:20: actually eat dinner
4:00 sports such as bowling
6:00 extracirricular activities such as tennis, Tai Kwon Do, ...etc)
7:00 do homework for 3 hours
10:00 eat dinner, get ready for bed, study for many hours and fall asleep doing homework, try to get onto youtube for 15 minutes
Repeat for about 180 days a week plus weekend homework takes an additional “ Unknown amt of time”

Too much Homework
My teacher: it’s only reading 18 pages and taking notes and making sure you understand the concept for your Socratic seminar and quiz that’s 40% of your grade. It not that much
Me: *dying inside* I still have 4 more teachers for today that will give me the same amount of homework
Exactly!! I get reading homework everyday and its the same thing "read 20 pages of this book and answer these 8 questions with 2 or more sentences" and thats just my first class if the day! Next is biology where i have to read 10 pages in my biology book almost each day and anwser the questions in them all at home, than i got math which give me homework everyday, after that its history and philosophy, in history we have to read a chapter out of a book each week at home and than in philosophy we have a 2 or 3 pages of reading we have to do at home, even with 35 mins of study hall and one of my classes being a study hall for 30 mins (thanks to circumstanses) im still spending an hour everyday after school on homework alone, that doesnt even include the fact that sometimes i get a week or two week long essay or project to at least 2 times a month. Im so stressed about failing and the kids at my school thinking im just an idoitic brainless nobody that cant even do his homework let alone not fail his classes. Its depressing and stressing and if i was only a shameless man would i not care and hardly even try to do my homework but im not and thats how it seems to always be, im like suprised i havent tried to kill myself yet and maybe its just from the shock of going to this new school and me telling myself that its fine and everything will be okay but maybe it isnt and maybe i dont want to do this anymore
I live in Hong Kong and I have a dictation tomorrow which I have to memorise and I have 7 homework, tomorrow is the uniform test as well, for whole 11 days. No rest. And we just started the school year for two months, I am just in S1

Yeah, I’m twelve as well. I’m currently in fall break with four days left. I’m dreading going back to school. The “break” isn’t even a break. I have so many long assignments from each of my classes. I’ve completed none as they’re multi-day projects. I don’t want to go back to school :(

through my whole life ive had extremely bad adhd. without my meds, id compare it most accurately to being on your phone really late at night and not being able to focus or comprehend anything, except youre aware this is happening by your brain against your own volition. homework doesn't take me a set number of hours, if i tried, my mind would actually just melt away. it feels like extreme exhausted. i am a sophomore and do not have wifi at home, we have a hybrid schedule now where i am in school mondays and Wednesdays and online work is required. i have never worked in my life. highschool has changed my entire life. its like.. new year new me except actually, wow. ive had straight A's, meanwhile before highschool i had barely five or four with at least one D. switching has.. bettered me as a person. as well as put extreme stress on me. ive had so many domestic issues, including financial and not knowing where ill live the next day. this is still happening. i have migraines that make me vomit and am basically to stressed i get physically ill every day. i have back and shoulder pain, too. i am not used to having done any work, now i am in hon eng, hon bio, offline, and... its too much. i am in a bad place. i wish theyd understand, at least, i do not have wifi.
Fuck the curriculum! Now i am deppressed because of how hard highschool is...

when i was in eighth grade i had a full blown anxiety attack in the hallway because i had been so overworked desperately trying to do well in math... i failed another test and snapped. i had to sit in the counselors office because they were worried that if i didn’t start breathing i would pass out. when i got home and told my parents they just told me to try harder next time. I WAS 13
I find school very stressfull because most of the homework is long and when you study you forget then get a failing grade then you have more stress because then you have to deal with parents yelling at you because of bad grades over a Math test
Adult life is easier and more peaceful than high school and teen life
This is the schedule for an adult:
Get up in the morning and have work from 9-5. Take the commute home, do a couple of hours of housework, cooking etc. Then you have a good few hours for watching tv, relaxing etc. before going to bed. And you pretty much have nothing to do on weekends aside from a couple of hours housework, errands etc.
For high school, you have school from about 9-3:30. Then when you get home, you're pretty much doing homework until bedtime. And you have to study for the whole weekend as well. High school students also have to worry about a load of other things including: researching colleges, part time jobs, extracurriculars and even grades etc.
This makes adult life is far less stressful than highschoolers and teens
I am going into high school in a little over a year. I am in 7th grade. Homework is the top stresser for me with high school. Bullying doesn't bother me as much as it does others, but then again I am not really exposed to it because my current school is extremely small.

For example, I am currently in high school. In case your wondering I am currently on spring break, so I’m able to post this for now.
Since I was in 6th grade, I would come back immediately from home ASAP and work on my homework, and I normally finished my homework at 7:30-10:00 PM. I was a straight A student (and I still am currently) with no break, except for dinner at 7:30. It was unfair for me, as everyone else finished their homework at 5:30 or 6:30.
Now I am in high school. I finish my homework normally at 9:30-10:30, which gives me nearly NO BREAK at all and SLEEPING LESS. I am exhausted honestly and everyone else finishes at 6:30-9:00. Such an unfair world and disappointing world of no breaks.
Don't u all hate the type of teachers that give u homework and sometimes, u forget and they dont believe u, thinking thats its a dumb exuse? Dont u hate when they give u work, expecting you to know everything and turning it in, but you don't have the right studies to do it? Dont you hate it when you werent there for a couple days, and they give you useless homework sheets to make up expecting u to know everything and whats going on? So I recently got surgery and i have 130 math questions, history assignment, i have to read a 4 page packet and answer questions, a science report and i already missed three days out of the week so i have to do all of this in three days because it is already friday. I’m only in 8th grade.

When I was in school in the 1970s I easily had 3-5 hours of homework a night. I'd come home and study and then a half hour for dinner and then back to homework. I'd do home work during my half hour lunch riding the bus.

I remember when I was in public school (I go to an online school now and that was a mistake bc there's so much more work). But when I was in public, me and another girl started having a mental breakdown in class and the teacher just yelled at us and gave us detention for being disruptive
My average day
Wake up at 5:20 am
Get ready/shower
Leave for seminary (church class) at 5:45 am
Finish seminary and go to school at 7:00 am
Finish school and go to football practice at 3:30 pm (I got bumped up to varsity freshman year and its a lot more work)
Come home at 7:00 pm
Do hw till 10 and shower/get ready for bed
Finally go to sleep at 11 or 12 depending on if I want to go my phone or not or if my body just doesn't want to sleep
Repeat
...God I already hate highschool only 1 quarter in
why not just drop seminary and football. Then you only need to do school from 7 to 3:30. you can probably finish homework by 6:30.

School makes me lose all my energy to do any of my home work at home i go home to get away from school and work not to do fucking school work at home i don't even have energy to play video games
College workload has not been reduced by any means and so high school graduates are now in shock as they experience a much greater workload upon entering college.
To be completely honest, a few years ago when I had depression, I almost attempted suicide because of homework stress. I had about 4-6 hours worth of homework, and barely ANY time at all to spend time with family, and spend time for myself. Yup, picked up a knife, held it to my heart, tried to stab it at myself but stopped a few cm before it hit me. Homework has no reason to exist, we already spend 7 hours in school, excluding preparation, breakfast, and waking up. Sweden's doing it right with banning homework. I hope that there will be an international ban of homework soon.

All too true, thank god i only have 1 class that “gives” homework, but that doesn’t change my opinion of it, for me homework is nothing more than a stressor and waste of time
I don’t think my English teacher thinks I have a life outside of school. She has given us 6 chapters to read and analyze every night since we started the book. I’ve never done a decent analysis because I’m always so exhausted from everything else. I barely have time for my other homework, I haven’t even touched my math assignment yet and still couldn’t finish the stupid English assignment. At this point I’ll make something up in study hall and make everything up as I go.

My math grade was low and they put me in a "tutoring" class during lunch, but we weren't allowed to eat we had to do math problems and since we don't get fed we end up getting in trouble because we can't focus. I hate this fucking education system.

In my case, it looks like teachers and the education system doesn't even know that teenagers have LIFES outside of school: Social life, Family, hobbies, aspirations, etc.

Don't teacher's see that homework ruins family life
2 AP classes, 1 honors class, Art Club, Mathletes, and a Club Soccer player as well as a member of the school team. There’s students in my school who have it worse than me and I don’t understand how they survive. My eating habits have been extremely poor, I get 4-5 hours of sleep because my school starts at 7:05 in the morning. Whenever I take a fricking break to do something I love like drawing or maybe even watching something it’s not a break it’s procrastination. Idk what to do anymore.
As soon as school ends,I have to do homework and after that,I have to sleep because they give us THAT much work
