    it's not only how deep to set the gauge wheels, but down pressure is a major variable as well. Some spots you might dig up seeds that are deep enough but other areas of the field the disks aren't getting deep enough

    In our sandy loams no till since 1980. Every thing planted 2 inches deep.

    Soybean acres in NB are small compared to other provinces. Some farmers are using grain drills to plant soybeans. Is there significant soybean yield differences between using a drill compared to using a planter?

      You definitely save money on the seed you use because a planter is much more accurate. A drill is just a controlled “spill”. Never went side by side but you are definitely optimizing each seeds growth potential using a planter but some people still use drills and air seeders here in southern Ontario as well.

    A rule of thumb, if you see a bean on top of the ground every once in awhile, you are at the correct depth but never deeper then 2" max! If you get a pounding rain and the beans are deeper then 2", you are screwed the rest of the summer...

    all i have is a old john deere drill 7 inch spacing. my neighbor planted beans with it but he is gone. i know he pulled a cultipacker behind it but all i have is a double roller cultipacker will that drive the beans to deep???

    Indian farmers are missing such important data. I am too.
    Farmers are poor in both wealth and education so they aren't in situation to research more but most frustrated thing is the corrupt administrators and politicians.
