I love how Torbjörn looks like he works in a tech support office yet his level of neatness in blacksmithing is very difficult to come by. I’ve seen professional blacksmiths with twice the amount of tools at their disposal produce some awful ingots for blade smithing and they have to grind their week away. Your precision is a gift and I’m delighted that you share it with us each time you post a video.
Believe he'd is educated for CP type work and background but return to his parents home to raise his family and guess had been helpful for them to have back home. Hopefully I not mistaken. I certainly don't mean any disrespect into his life but wish him the best.
My dad used to operate a huge hammer for US STEEL. Seeing you operate yours with a Midas touch reminds me of him. I really appreciate your videos. To me, your the best blacksmith on TH-cam. Thank you.
A true skilled master. I'm still, after so many years of watching, amazed at the level you produce. Not only the skill at forging and blacksmithing, but photography and gardening. Wonderful escape to sit and watch you.
I really appreciate how you take time and care even on a simple thing like making a target for your knives. you do it right, even for something that really doesn't matter that much.
Ohhh, not only cutting! I also love those gardening "inserts". In this he reminded me how my grandma used to plant seeds in the soil, making first an indentation with a pole from a rake. Thanks Torbjorn! It was really pleasant to find that memory from my childhood :D
I had to chuckle to see that we close our garden rows (@10:42) with the same one-handed crab "scootchy-scootch". It's the best ! But we use different "tapping" techniques to produce the precise flow of seeds from the packet. I will soon experiment with your two-handed tap, which is quite different than my one-handed tap. You see, I hold a corner of the packet between thumb and middle finger, using the index finger of the same hand to do the tapping. A small matter, as we both probably proceed with thinning the seedlings in a similar fashion. Best wishes for a bountiful garden to you ! And thanks for yet another enlightening video !
Sir I'm also a gardener but older. I'm not as flexible as in my youth. Before I'm unable I'm building tools to keep me gardening longer. You probably know older people who also aged and still veggies. I'm planning a long set of tongs for thinning my tiny seedlings such as your carrots will need thinning You can help promote some gardening tools for us older and handicap people who are not quite ready to stop gardening we love our veggies and little fresh air brings joy to many. I'm always amazed by your Blacksmith skills but throwing skills you're needed more practice Buddy love your shop skills. I built a mini post hole digger for setting my seedlings such as tomatoes and peppers. BIG THANKS 😂
Blacksmith, gardener, magician, chef, and now assassin, you are a man of many hats :) Love the build as usual, and it's really nice to see you smile. Thanks
I really like what you do , it's very difficult now to find knife making videos were 99% of the work is done by forging instead of 99% being made with grinding !
I love watching you build anything, I'm always amazed at how clean your forgings are, if I had forged those knives they would definitely had to have been ground into shape to hide all the imperfections.
Forging a double edged knife with ease! That's how you know you're a really good blacksmith! Very few people can forge bevels that good without grinding, let alone a double edged knife 🗡️ !!!
Thanks Gary! You should make a couple. It's great fun, but also a bit frustrating when you think you got it and suddenly they just bounce off... ha ha.
Snapping steel into pieces is one kind of magic - Another even more impressive kind of magic is the editing required to make it look absolutely seamless. SO impressive! I always love to watch your projects, and I'm increasingly impressed by your videography! This ending really had me laughing :) Keep up the good work, Thunder Bear!
Great video as ever, I'm appreciating them even more that I've started an internship on the archaeometallurgy of iron, it's fascinating to see some of the techniques that result in the microstructures I see at work.
When you drew the angle on the anvil and used it as a guide to put in the plunge lines I actually said "That's genius!" out loud in my study. You can bet that little arrow of knowledge is going in my quiver. If I may make one suggestion, and this is coming more from my Ren fair buddies than myself, for throwing weapons you typically want the blade or business end of the weapon to have the majority of the weight, as the heavier of the two ends has strong proclivity to be the leading end in flight.
Love this. Throwing knives are good fun! And of course with the usual high quality craftsmanship I think we've all come to expect from Thunder Bear! Even the target was nicely made!!
These are a pretty cool build. Now you need to make some throwing axes, like a tomahawk or maybe a double bit throwing axe(s)... Id definitely would like to see that...
Great job on the throwing knives! Simple look with nice lines. Several years ago, I hauled off a load of scrap steel to the scrap yard. I had a failed attempt at a knife in the pile. I was telling the guy who was unloading the truck that I don't think I'm very good at making throwing knives. He took the failed knife, spun around and threw it at the windshield of a junk car. It stuck deep in the windshield (I think the windshield was already broken) and he turns to me and said, "Looks like you did okay with that one." I should have tried to sell it to him. :D
Glad to see I’m not the only one keeping my old DeWalt NiCd alive. I tried several of the lithium conversion batteries but I found it cheaper to just buy the genuine NiCds while they’re still available.
Nice video, A tip for your target though. Knives, axes, and throwing hawks will stick much better in the end grain of wood. April Wilkerson did a throwing target iirc in a video once. I built one similar to hers and it made a WORLD of difference. I used soft yellow pine 4x4's and cut them to 2 inches long. I built a frame for the pieces to rest in and didn't actually attach them to the frame so I can simply cut new ones when they wear out or split on me.
Amazing work as always , I'm still trying to work out how to cut the spring like you do 👏🤣. I'm going to try make a kitting from angle iron today for my grand daughter , I seen in one of your videos that I have watched 10 times with her . Cheers.🐱🐈
You are the only blacksmith that I subscribe to. Watch others but you at the top of the list. Just a thought, if you would write a book I would be the first to buy a couple or so. Just saying.
Heartly thanks for your easy to cut and to forge ant-fishlipping technic. Estimated time savings: nearly infinite ;) As u say in Germany: Alter Schwede! (Expression of approving astonishment, in lättöl-language: Gammlar svensk! XD)
Greetings, Torbjörn! I remember those good old days, when that spring was longer) Special thanks for cutting of the Gordian knot of how to have all three knives at once at the target) Your work is a true masterpiece! Best regards!
Very nice that is a great skill you have thanks for sharing. Also you have a fantastic yard. It will be nice to see your vegetable garden when grows in.

@@torbjornahman Blade is thick enough to dig and cut roots. The one piece design can be lashed to a branch to make a spear. And then there's the throwing part, which can come in handy for small game. You made a winner, my friend.

Dang! You're really good at throwing knives! I never did get good at throwing with a spin but got pretty good throwing no spin. Totally different technique but once you get it you don't have to worry about distance quite as much. You throw almost the same way at any distance. I'm going to forge some of these up and see how they do!
