I guess it's just the way that he talks, and the fact that he generally doesn't cuss much. He's always a more calm and collected reviewer, and cussing is generally not a habit of his, so it's surprising when it comes from him. It catches me off-guard too, to be honest. I don't think that's such a bad thing though. I mean lots of reviewers just channel the rage or just fling cuss words freely. Not like it's bad, but it's not unique anymore. I think part of the reason I like Chris is because he's not like that. He's just himself, talking about movies because that's what he loves, and doesn't put on a persona or a front.
Haha, yeah, I guess I understand what you mean. He doesn't seem wholly comfortable with cussing, to be honest. It doesn't really seem like something he does or likes to do often.
Damm'it!! I loved V/H/S/2 a lot....they could've done this third one this way...family buys a home and finds a box in the attic with one VHS tape in there..bam! Pay me Hollywood!
It's because Nacho Vigalondo can't make complete crap. He's compelled by his genius to make at least passable work, even when working in a format he doesn't fit well into (short film)
I really enjoyed 1&2 and was looking forward to this developing into a good series, oh well.. I feel i still have to watch it despite the negative review.
Thats a shame about the movie. Coincidentally, they filmed the skater kids section in our studio while I was working there. I guess I've seen the worst part of the movie then?
It's a shame because the franchise has lots of potential. They could've simply given some amateur directors a shot & chosen some of their videos. For example, holding a competition worldwide where amateur/beginner directors get the chance to produce a short horror story. I think in that way, they'll end up with millions of creepy videos from around the world containing different crazy ideas.
Well I did after u mentioned it. But the issue was related to VHS as in shaky cam type of short movies. And honestly abc's of death are still made by experienced filmmakers not by the average person who's an amateur.
The parallel universe was the best thing about this movie. this movie pissed me off so much, being a fan of the first 2. the magician one isn't even Found footage
No the Magic one technically isn't found footage. However, it was a good film short. I like the documentary style they did for that story. I liked the parallel universe one as well. The rest was a waste!
@@xMorbidArtx The upsidedown Latin cross is a symbol for Saint Peter, but in recent times it has been confused for being an anti-christians symbol, or a satanic cross.
@Emilia Barzini I guess I didn't realize the confusion that has been created, by my original comment... I was asking about the purpose of the flying upsidedown cross blimp things. ; -) I too, would be curious to see another short that adds an expansion of the parallel "evil" universe, that was shown only briefly in the movie. I think it was more shocking, when the short was hinting at the subtle differences (like catching little things like the blimps, the television playing whatever that weird stuff was, etc...) rather than the freaky xenomorph-like extension (that extends out of the evil double's genitals).
That's pretty disappointing. I liked the 1st 2. I think the Indonesian story in part 2 is 1 of the best things I've seen in any horror movie. Maybe they'll get back on track with the inevitable 4th...
What really bugs me is how lazy it was. The second movie, in my opinion, perfected the formula. While I prefer the establishing setting of the first movie (the house with the dead collector on the chair), the second one definitely had the best shorts and most interesting ideas. The cult episode was so very creepy. And the go-pro zombie episode is a fantastic idea. And I love the world of the first two movies; the idea of these creeps collecting horrific bootlegs is cool, it disturbs me just like the idea of snuff movies does. And you would have thought they would have learned from the second one, figured out how to keep it working well. Instead, they make this half-assed, stupid movie. The plots were dumb, the only one that had some potential was the parallel universe one but they butchered it. Acting was meh. Directing was awful. Some stuff was so random and pointless. It also pissed me off how in Viral the shots are never explained. Sure, some things are filmed from phones and stuff, but other things are just filmed like a normal movie, without any explanation of how we're seeing it or any effort to make it look like a security camera or something that'd make sense. Plus, the interference on the phone really irritated me. When you fiilm with a phone, the image doesn't become green, divide into two or duplicate what you're looking at. It's a phone, not an old camera. That's the kind of lazy excuse to make everything totally impossible to understand that makes people hate found footage movies. I'm not fond of them, mostly because they usually use these cheap tricks. But the first two tried their best to find smart ways to film everything and weren't too sickening or confused. Viral didn't even try and leeched off the cult following of the first two. I gave this movie 2/10 on IMDB. It's just garbage.
Much like Chris, I couldn't stand this movie, it was just awful. The first two are excellent but this is one of those that put very little effort in and it really does show. Avoid at all costs, absolutely terrible movie
I thought the original was alright but the sequel was actually good and an improvement over the so-so original in my opinion. I'll still check out V/H/S: Viral but I'm honestly not going to rush seeing it, I'll just see it eventually. Great review Chris!!!
I've seen the 1st two V/H/S movies and loved them, so I was excited when I actually purchased the third movie. Chris hit the nail on the head! The skateboard kids short had me wanting to throw my whole DVD player out of the window! If they make a fourth movie, they have to go hard and make up for the crappie third one!
Done watching this movie... despite you said it´s horrible... and... ... yeah it was pretty horrible. I think there were some good ideas in the - Parallel Universe - and -Dante The Great - but like you said - "What does it have to do with the message of the movie?" ... A movie that had some potential but it is completely screwed in this horrible piece of garbage.
+vladi569 totally agree, loved the premise of the first two..dante/universe...but the main storyline was so confusing and didnt set up a central theme, i didnt know what to think, And how come cops couldnt catch the van but BMX bikers could keep up ?? wtf
Holy shit. That's the first time I've ever heard you say fuck. It must've really sucked lol. I'm so sorry you have to go through these films to deliver us reviews, brother (but well thanks for doing so x'D). I saw the first VHS last night based off your recommendation and really really liked it. The film wasn't really original and did have a lot of cliches but at the same time something about it felt fresh. It was absolutely terrifying at times. I'll make sure to check out the second one and well probably avoid this one.
I fully agree with this guy, i also wanted to turn off the movie after the laughable no sense skate scene, the VHS 1 and 2 where kind of good with interesting ideas, but this 3rd one was just a big boring mess.
i hated the skater kids so much. the "fight" scene was so stupid, i couldn't even tell what was happening. and like those drugged up little dumbasses could hold their own in a fight, that's rich! most of the vhs skits have a story to tell but that one was just jumbled garbage
I was gonna watch tonight. Thanks Chris for having this review up before I did that. 77min of my life is saved and it's all thanks to Chris Stuckmann. Bit seriously thanks.
I could not agree with you more Chris Stuckmann! I'm a huge horror movie fan and I even tend to get into a few that don't have the most amazing story lines as long as they take me to that specific level of discomfort that transfers to fear. I loved the first two V/H/S's but I literally could not make it through V/H/S: Viral. I think I was probably 3/4 of the way through the 'teenagers shooting the Mexican skeleton people' scene when I literally just shut it off. I was annoyed, confused, and just generally upset that it didn't even come close to living up to the first two. Ugh. DEFINITELY a waste of money. I did enjoy the magician's cape short, I just can't help thinking that it would make a much better stand alone film than Viral.
I found V/H/S two years ago, and I absolutely Loved it. I learned there was a second film and I absolutely Loved IT. I then introduced the franchise to my friends who all fell in Love with the first two films as well. When they announced this one, we were all ecstatic. Then it came out. The movie is garbage. It lacks focus, there is no direction, it attempted to be humorous and ruined any tension it had built. It's just a majorly disappointing film. There were no scenes that made me cringe, there was zero emotion, it is by far my least favorite film in the franchise and I honestly home that someone else gets behind this franchise and takes it back to its routes.
Noted Chris ! I really enjoyed the VHS & VHS 2 for what they were ! I'm still a little keen to see this 3rd one, but I'll wait until it's available on Netflix or something ! Solid review as ever man :)
Viral was / is horrible bad. But what I hate the most about the first movies is that they watch vhs tapes recorded with digital cameras.I'd love to see some vids that take place in the actual vhs golden years, but I guess that would be a little more expensive, recreating the costume and period, but they should use nostalgia as a trigger, nostalgia always sells.
Two of the stories in this (parallel dimension and the skateboarder one - which REALLY grew on me after I gave it a chance) are fantastic and are easily in the top 5 of all VHS movie stories for me. Sadly the other 2 stories in this are also in the bottom 5 of all VHS movie stories. Its a mixed bag in that regard, but it's not an F by a long shot, like The Last Jedi should have been.
Strange, I actually enjoyed Bonestorm (the skateboard kids one) for being nothing more than mindless fun. Otherwise everything else was terrible. I was upset that we didn't get some kind of explanation, even though someone from the film said we were going to get something explained. Nothing, not one damn thing explained. I've seen many people talk about the story 'Parallel Monsters' as being their favorite. but that it should have been longer and that Satanic world should have been more explored. Also there is a reason why the movie was very short, they left off a story. there's no real reason given as to why they removed the story called "Gorgeous Vortex". If the short was bad they wouldn't have even bothered filming it, but they did. Some are saying that it just wasn't completed and that they expect it to be featured on the dvd/blu release either within the movie (extending the time) or as a bonus feature.
Binge watched the first two on Netflix and was very exited for this one and i couldn't even finish it. It was that bad. Agree with everything you said.
Watched this yesterday and completely agree, Especially about the skaters. Cringing and yelling make it end. It was the most drawn out story in this VHS series. Had it been decent, I wouldn't have minded but it just kept going... and going. Why does this movie hate me? The ending just pissed me off... teased and LET DOWN even more. parallel world was probably the best of the bunch.
I agree, it's not as good as the first two. However, I still enjoyed it, the skater one I took more as a joke, and that made it enjoyable. I agree it's not worth $12, however it's free on TH-cam at the moment, so I would say that it's ok.
Totally agree. Chris you should do a top 5 or 10 best horror movies of the last couple years. I love horror but it is becoming very hard to find movies that do my love of the genre justice.
Dante the Great had potential. So did the alternate universe one (that one was okay, but it could have been better. Definitely better than the other two tapes) but Bone Storm was complete and utter shit. Dante the Great was a "great" idea, but it was executed so poorly. I hope we get to see a V/H/S 4, but I also hope that the people that worked on Viral are fired!
I love the previous two. I'm waiting for this one to hit my local theater, so I can watch it. Viral may not be as good as the other vhs films as you said. Perhaps the filmmakers are just messing with us. What if its one of those movies where it has a horrible spinoff and they actually release a better vhs movie. What if they make a vhs3 even though viral is the third installment, and make it even better. Never know.
Completely agree with every single word said here. I absolutely loved the first two and found them genuinely terrifying. To sit and watch the third one with such high expectations only to find out the end product was nothing short of absolute garbage was one of the biggest let downs I've ever experienced in film. Glad to hear we are on the same page with this one Chris.
Chris, how about the ABCs Of Death movies? I kinda enjoyed 70% of them, you gonna give those a review? Wanna know what you think. And if you already done it…well then I can't find it lol :D
Can anyone talk about the parallel monster part? I really loved that part where he went to alien world in his other version i wanted to know more about it. what they were trying to do in the living room
I thought the middle story - about the Spanish scientist who opens the door to a parallel universe (strongly suggested to be hell) had some really good potential. But otherwise, the film was garbage. The other two were much better.
The first two weren't just about people watching creepy tapes, the tapes did something to them. In each of the over arching stories more and more paranormal things happen the more tapes they watch. Something is wanting the tapes to get out to the public to make some paranormal event happen. But you're right the 3rd one sucks fat balls. They even fucked up the main story outside of the tapes
I hated the third short film about the skaters, it sucks, but well, unfortunately that's how kids behave these days and what they actually consider "cool" so i gave a Little credit for showing it. but it sucks anyway. The magician film was a pretty good action short film. but the parallel universe film.... FUCKING PERFECT! One of the best of all the franchise, the meaning, the message... it was all perfect for me, when i first saw it i was shocked, because it is really awesome Gorgeous vortex... man I wish it was included, it's a good alternative work, i really enjoyed it
I just finished watching it. It reminded me a lot of the first and second, just not as scary. It's not a bad film and whether or not you get annoyed by the one short that Chris is talking about depends on the type of person you are. Personally id give it a C and I'd say check it out if you're a fan of the first 2. Just don't expect ANYTHING scary.
Hey Chris, you should check out, 'The Den.' Last time I checked it's available on Netflix but that film was pretty fucked up. If you like creepy movies this one is worth watching. It's a short movie just under 80 mins but it gave me chills especially towards the ending. I'd like to see you do a review for it if you see this comment. Keep up the great reviews!
Hey Chris, although you gave this movie an F and I am a fan of the first two movies, they were great and like you said, "inventive," I am still going to watch it. Either way, great review as always!
V/H/S and V/H/S 2 are between my favorites found footage/horror movies, I´ve just finished watching Viral and being honest I regret of that, it was too confusing and random that in some parts I laughed of how bad it was. I didn´t understand Vicious Circles and missed the structure that had the first to movies. I liked very much Dante the Great and the Parallel Universe one but the last one was worse than any deadly disease, and yes, the fight scene was so annoying that from that point I lost interest in keep on watching it. It´s the first review I have ever watched of you and I agree with it, cheers!
I´ve seen Chronicle two weeks ago and now is one of my most favourites films. On the other side, I´m looking forward on seeing Cloverfield this week maybe, thanks!
The parallel universe story was written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo who also made the brilliant "Timecrimes" and the pretty cool "open Windows" and I actually thought his segment of the movie was creepy and funny.
Sounds like [REC]3 and Ninja Gaiden 3. For some stupid reason they abandoned the formula for success and just pumped out a turd. What other 'end on 3' tragedies are there?
I actually really enjoyed the parallel universe short (even tho it got a bit gross towards the end). And the skater kid short ... well, I kinda liked the atmosphere of it. Also the Magician story was kinda fun to watch even tho the the actions felt pretty dumb at times. But overall I agree it was highly disappointing especially when you saw the first two VHS installments
Yeah, the parallel one was very true to form, the magician one had a ton of potential, but had shots that contradict the 'foundfootage' rules and had some corny ass lines, and the Tijuana one had a neat premise and pretty decent effects for a small army of cult skeletons in a low budget film, but ruined it with combat-ready skaters and being a pseudo action short
I actually stopped watching the movie half way through the Mexican Halloween prop gun fight. I couldn't take it. It was so lame and just plain obnoxious... Ugh, I'm so disappointed at this crap.
I agree with the review. Since I'm such a huge fan of the first two, seeing this crap ruined my outlook on the franchise. It was made with the mindset that the director and producer didn't want anything to do with the franchise anymore, but we're legal oblighted to make it. IF a VHS 4 is a possibility I hope they regain their creativity. And not release 80 mins of crap
I was trippin when I watched this so I thought I hallucinated some of the shitty parts, rewatched it just to find it was just a shitty fucking movie. Worst movie I've ever seen. I'm more scared of teletubbies.
For me "Dante the Great" was the most maddening short in the series, mostly because it had no idea what in the hell in wanted to be. It starts off like a documentary with interview clips, and any mystery the short could have potentially had by explaining the "twist" perfectly in the first minute. Then it also tries to be a found footage by showing first person footage of a swat raid that makes no sense why it would be filmed. Then near the day it just completely forgets about being a documentary or found footage in favor of some stupid unnecessary action scene. I'm not sure if this was even supposed to be a horror short, because it barely even attempted to be scary until the last scene, which was laughably obvious and cheesy. For me the bone storm one was annoying, but Dante the Great was infuriating.
Hey Chris, am a huge fan and find myself coming to you before even checking imdb about any flick. Am SO upset you were so disappointed in VHS Viral as have been eagerly anticipating its release as am a huge fan of the the first two. I will admit I wont be able to help but watch V/V, but based on your opinion, am sure it will be a major let down for me also. Cheers for another great, comprehensive review. Keep 'em coming! :)
I saw your great review on the Se7en Movie with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman and I actually found it today in a $7.99 Blu-Ray Bin at Wal-Mart. I'm excited to watch it when I get a chance. Awesome deal. Keep up the awesome work.
Hey Chris seeing as I am a fan of the first two films, would u say this movie is even worth checking out for free because I can watch it for free if I want?
+ChrisStuckman.I was wondering what you thought about the ABC's of Death. Similar in tone to VHS and while I didn't like all the stories, I thought some of them were really good.
F!!! Really? I mean, I haven't seen it yet, but your F reviews are usually so much more lively! I love playing your F playlists for the lols. I was expecting a D! Dude, has married life..., you know... SNIP SNIP?
This movie is as bad as you say. The V/H/S series never had good over-arching plots, but this one made no sense at all. The ice cream truck chase was pretty lame and immediately I was rooting for that guy to get killed. For the first bit, I actually liked the ways that the magician kept escaping from police, but the story and ending were so predictable. As for the second story, out of all of the things you can do with a parallel universe, you chose that? The less said about the third bit the better. I didn't pick up on any message about viral videos, but that's probably because the movie kept contradicting itself with what kind of message it wanted to convey. Good review.
I can tell you exactly what happened. The original two were put together by Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett, a duo who are known for taking well used tropes and finding ways to reinvent them (You're Next, The Guest, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane are all movies that are classic horror movie plots that twist it just enough to keep it interesting and rereshing) or just coming up with highly inventive new ideas (Pop Skull is one weird ass movie). They also are part of the "Mumblegore" circuit (people like Ti West, Joe Swanburg, or David Bruckner), which is where a lot of the directors in the first 2 came from. These are a highly talented bunch of directors who likely signed on in equal parts for the exposure, and because their friends were all involved VHS Viral was not put together by Wingard/Barrett, and the people involved are either still quite rookies who haven't yet put anything out, or are Aaron Moreland (the excellent Resolution) or Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes), who are highly talented, but specialize in much longer and significantly more complex stories. The type of thing that they couldn't do here.
"WORST NIGHTMARE,CAUGHT ON SKYPE!" quote from V/H/S 1 don't forget that Unfriended stuff that got put in the ending song of V/H/S 1 and "FOUND THE FOOTAGE" remove THE and you get "FOUND FOOTAGE" that was a hard-to-spot pun I REALLYYYY hope that somebody gets a group of people that are REALLYYYY good and make a prequel that is called D/V/D would be really cool to see how V/H/S really begin and what caused the huge wall of domino's to come crashing down to create the first V/H/S movie.
If I were to take a guess what made the first 2 work was that the people behind each short were given the freedom to do what ever they wanted and were a loud to get passionate. Here it all had to relate back to a central theme so no one was able to go all out
I just can't with this movie. I'm such a fan of VHS and for me is even disrepectful that they didn't show "THE HOSPITAL short film" that appeared in the trailer. This movie has so much potential but I just don't know what happened. #sadfan
i am in complete agreement with you, chris. viral is a major letdown. i even agree with your distaste for the particular "bonestorm" segment of the program. those kids are obnoxious as all get out. but i implore you to check out the work of justin benson outside of his vhs contribution. bonestorm is a poor representation of benson's ability to create plausible relationships and utilize lovecraftian/horror elements to heighten and test those relationships. i spent the weekend watching two of benson's films, SPRING and RESOLUTION. they're quite magnificent on a cerebral/psychological level - more mystery than horror. some may write them off as indie bullshit. but because you like enemy and only god forgives, i think you'll have some appreciation for benson's work. he has won a fan in me for sure. this guy was not at all on my radar, but i'm glad i came across his films in my search for quality horror films. while i'm recommending movies, i'll also suggest you check out A MOST VIOLENT YEAR.
Oddly the skatboard kids short was one of the only things I liked about this movie. Though considering how low my standards are with movies i'm definitely not the best example
I'm surprised you missed the fact that the second story by Timecrimes director Nacho Vigalondo - Parallel Monsters - is excellent and worth fast-forwarding V/H/S 3 for. Credit where credit is due mr Stuckmann.
I really enjoyed the first two and wasn't even aware that the third one have been made. Your review is the first that I've heard of it, and I have to say that I'm incredibly disappointed to hear you say these things about it. I might actually still check it out if it's put on Netflix just to see how bad it actually is, but I can't say that I'm looking forward to this one.
only thing it had going for it was the special effects and the small ideas in the stories like the cloak and the skeleton people and the alternate universe which seemed to be satanic. but they could have expanded them a bit more and added more short stories to it because it was so short and unscary.
Being such a huge fan of the first two, I have to see this one anyway but I figured it would suck. I feel the opposite about The ABCS Of Death. I think part one was horrible but part two was fantastic. Question: what could they have done to make VHS: Viral worthy of a watch?
Respect the concept itself: don't break the rules and DON'T break the found-footage. Tone down the slapstick/dark comedy and go full out horror/creepy vibe. Make the wrap-around simplistic but entertaining. Enjoyable characters. Well-exectued ideas based on simple stories.
What they could have done is explore more personal, intimate horror ... not be so grand as they tried to be with all 3 shorts and the wrap around. A story about the night someone plans to kill their girlfriend but finds out she's more than what he thought she was (supernaturally speaking) A story about a child who claims the babysitter is abusive and the parents set up nanny cams only to find out that the nanny is part of a cult or something, and then they have to rush home to save their kid and all hell breaks loose. A story about someone in a prison who uncovers medical experiments on inmates and is recording it on a hidden cell phone he has in his prison cell. Something like that. Less cheesy special effects, more twists, and a wrap around story that built on the theory of why they needed to be on video tape and viewed in a certain order that the original writers/producers hinted at in the previous movie.
K.C. Hunter Damn... Those are really great ideas. I'm not very fond of the prison one, but cheesus, the other ones would kick ass! I always wanted to see a short in V/H/S where some dudes threw a house party and some of the people were monsters like the alien in The Thing (1982), that'd be awesome. You got some good ideas!
The only short film I liked from the VHS movies is the one where the couple is on vacation at the Grand Canyon or some canyon and they're staying in a hotel/motel at night. When they're in their place, he keeps seeing this weirdo at night through the window and he's kinda creeped out by it. Finally when the couple falls asleep the creep breaks into their place and steals his money out of his wallet, then the second night the creep stabs the guy in the throat killing him, and then you finally find out who the killer is and she knows the dude's girlfriend and they had a fling together all along with a plan to kill her fiancé. This was really disturbing and super scary because this shit could actually happen in real life. And I'm pretty sure this was directed by Ti West and I love all of his movies. He's a great indie horror movie director and great director in general. The House of the Devil is his best movie to date.
You totally ripped this film apart...and I respect that.
Haha I was just about to watch one of your videos and I was super surprised to see you here.
777boman What can I say? I'm a huge fan of cinema!
Then you should check out YourmovieSucks on TH-cam, he is really good.

The Parallel universe one seemed like it belonged in the first two VHS movies it was the only memorable story out of the movie
It's because Nacho Vigalondo can't make complete crap. He's compelled by his genius to make at least passable work, even when working in a format he doesn't fit well into (short film)
I would agree, if it wasn’t for the fact that the people in the parallel universe had monsters for private parts
I like this story too as well as Dante the Great...I like the documentary style of that film short.
Best and only good skit in viral. Meh, okay i did enjoy the magician one. But all the others were so so poor.
I really enjoyed 1&2 and was looking forward to this developing into a good series, oh well.. I feel i still have to watch it despite the negative review.
woah wacky
Ayyyooooo
Hey its x wassup
Not every third installment turns out great!
Take hangover 3 or dead space 3 for example!
VHS 94 is amazing
Thats a shame about the movie. Coincidentally, they filmed the skater kids section in our studio while I was working there. I guess I've seen the worst part of the movie then?
It's a shame because the franchise has lots of potential. They could've simply given some amateur directors a shot & chosen some of their videos. No the Magic one technically isn't found footage. However, it was a good film short. I like the documentary style they did for that story. I liked the parallel universe one as well. The rest was a waste!
The short about parallel worlds is actually good.
I agree. That one was freaky as hell.
That was the best short story, of 'em all. I want to know what that "flying upside-down cross" thing was... freaky as f***
@@xMorbidArtx
The upsidedown Latin cross is a symbol for Saint Peter, but in recent times it has been confused for being an anti-christians symbol, or a satanic cross.
@Emilia Barzini
I guess I didn't realize the confusion that has been created, by my original comment... I was asking about the purpose of the flying upsidedown cross blimp things. ; -)
I too, would be curious to see another short that adds an expansion of the parallel "evil" universe, that was shown only briefly in the movie. I think it was more shocking, when the short was hinting at the subtle differences (like catching little things like the blimps, the television playing whatever that weird stuff was, etc...) rather than the freaky xenomorph-like extension (that extends out of the evil double's genitals).
I liked that segment but unfortunately it doesn't save the film
That's pretty disappointing. I liked the 1st 2. I think the Indonesian story in part 2 is 1 of the best things I've seen in any horror movie. Maybe they'll get back on track with the inevitable 4th...
Dude, Amateur Night is easily the best short
Amateur Night and Safe Haven were the best segments
Safe Haven is by far the best segment dude... Like, not even a contest
Inevitable.....
@@fadhil7959 Yep.
I thought 2 was weaker than 1
SpawnRevenge92 The alien short from the second movie was amazing. It had great effects and was pretty funny too.
That alien short from part 2 freaks me the hell out! Ive been scared of aliens my entire life! I can hardly watch that scene.
The first was the best in my opinion the stories and horror was way better.
The parallel universe segment was the only good part of the film and I feel like it could have done more.
Much like Chris, I couldn't stand this movie, it was just awful. The first two are excellent but this is one of those that put very little effort in and it really does show. Avoid at all costs, absolutely terrible movie
agreed, first two were great. really enjoyed em.
That movie was complete shit.
I just saw VHS 99. I now think it's the worst in the series. lol
They always change the working formula for the 3rd movie in the franchise. Almost always.
That description about the skater kids sounds pretty accurate to me.
They got a different director to make this movie and they rushed it... totally ruined the series =/
V/H/S Viral was a huge disappointed...
Mike Ratinski Your grammar was a huge disappointment...
@@Krosstic *disappointed
Done watching this movie... despite you said it´s horrible... and... ... yeah it was pretty horrible. I think there were some good ideas in the - Parallel Universe - and -Dante The Great - but like you said - "What does it have to do with the message of the movie?" ... A movie that had some potential but it is completely screwed in this horrible piece of garbage.
+vladi569 totally agree, loved the premise of the first two..dante/universe...but the main storyline was so confusing and didnt set up a central theme, i didnt know what to think, And how come cops couldnt catch the van but BMX bikers could keep up ?? wtf
You are complaining about $12? Try 20 bucks over here
You want to hear him say fuck? Go watch his review of Battlefield Earth. There you get Chris at his angriest.
It's because Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett weren't involved.
Spot on,fuck this movie.
And I agree, the skater bit was so damn annoying!
Wish I saw this review before I watched the movie on Netflix cause it was awful
I almost watched it a few minutes ago until I remembers that Chris reviewed it, now I'm here
I'm watching this before I watch the movie
No it wasn't, sure it was silly, but it was still really fun and gross
Chris M
yea to you but for me this movie was a shit fest that i wish i never saw
Hormonal Hermione Yes, on the american Netflix anyway...
Thanks for saving my money, Chris!
Noted Chris ! I really enjoyed the VHS & VHS 2 for what they were ! I'm still a little keen to see this 3rd one, but I'll wait until it's available on Netflix or something ! Solid review as ever man :)
Watched V/H/S 1 and 2 and liked them. Just watched the third installment. It sucked.
Never know.
I really hope none of the people involved with this are part of VHS94 cos I'm very excited for that!
Completely agree with every single word said here. I absolutely loved the first two and found them genuinely terrifying. To sit and watch the third one with such high expectations only to find out the end product was nothing short of absolute garbage was one of the biggest let downs I've ever experienced in film. Glad to hear we are on the same page with this one Chris.
you said you wanted something different in the vhs 2 review
Chris, how about the ABCs Of Death movies? I kinda enjoyed 70% of them, you gonna give those a review? Wanna know what you think. And if you already done it…well then I can't find it lol :D
Great review Chris Oh Boy! They done fucked it up! But I have to see it for my channel as well since I reviewed the first 2.
I thought this was a spoof film when I watched the trailer. Says it all really. Thanks for taking one for the team Chris!
I thought the wraparound in Viral had a solid concept (Very Halloween 3) but it was executed so badly.
Thanks dude! Sorry for your loss lol. Please review The Decent!
One of the best of all the franchise, the meaning, the message... it was all perfect for me, when i first saw it i was shocked, because it is really awesome
Gorgeous vortex... man I wish it was included, it's a good alternative work, i really enjoyed it
I just finished watching it.
Awwww l like the first 2 films but thanks Dude won't waste my time on the 3rd film
Hey Chris, what are your favorite "segments" from the first two? Mine would be the alien one from the second and the honeymoon.
VHS viral is not VHS 3, it's just an Spin Off.
Hey Chris, you should check out, 'The Den.'
Last time I checked it's available on Netflix but that film was pretty fucked up. If you like creepy movies this one is worth watching. It's a short movie just under 80 mins but it gave me chills especially towards the ending. I'd like to see you do a review for it if you see this comment. Keep up the great reviews!
Dude this film really pissed you off. When you said "fuck this movie", I knew it was serious. That's unfortunate considering I enjoyed the first 2.
Hey Chris, although you gave this movie an F and I am a fan of the first two movies, they were great and like you said, "inventive," I am still going to watch it. Either way, great review as always!
Definitely sucked. It was toned down so much it could have had a PG-13 rating. Wait a minute, what was the actual rating of it?
Is rated R
On the other side, I´m looking forward on seeing Cloverfield this week maybe, thanks!
i didnt get the ending
MBV TELESHAKA I didn't get the whole movie.
i didn't get how this movie got released
The parallel universe story was written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo who also made the brilliant "Timecrimes" and the pretty cool "open Windows" and I actually thought his segment of the movie was creepy and funny.
Sounds like [REC]3 and Ninja Gaiden 3. For some stupid reason they abandoned the formula for success and just pumped out a turd. What other 'end on 3' tragedies are there?
Spider-Man 3
Alien 3
Shrek the third
X-Men: The Last Stand
Jurassic Park 3
Anyone from Panda?
I was looking for a comment like this.
they made a spin off to v/h/s about the first tape from the first movie. siren i believe its called. have you seen that one?
The best one was the skateboarding one was the best being from San Diego I'd smoke with these dudes any day and RIP Camera guy and gas money kid
hell yeah, i want more movies with them
lol he said that was the worst one
ERIC H #NeverforgetGasMoney
Hey Chris, am a huge fan and find myself coming to you before even checking imdb about any flick. Am SO upset you were so disappointed in VHS Viral as have been eagerly anticipating its release as am a huge fan of the the first two. I will admit I wont be able to help but watch V/V, but based on your opinion, am sure it will be a major let down for me also. Cheers for another great, comprehensive review. Keep 'em coming! :)
I actually liked the magican story the rest was mehhhh ✌
Chris ma man couldnt have put it any better myself you literally freaking summed it up bro well done
Am I the only one who likes this movie? I think it's one of the best movies I've seen in awhile.
No...just no
***** Can you name a better movie?
+OverRatedProgrammer Of what? The year came out or all time? Both are really fucking easy.
aleqthepredator Either
+OverRatedProgrammer I acctualy quite liked it aswell :)
Is Gorgeous Vortex on TH-cam? I've been looking for it. :(
+ChrisStuckman.I was wondering what you thought about the ABC's of Death.
Will you do some reveiws on:
1. The Den
2. Howls Moving Castle
& 3. One & Two
I'd like to see your opinion!
These are a highly talented bunch of directors who likely signed on in equal parts for the exposure, and because their friends were all involved
VHS Viral was not put together by Wingard/Barrett, and the people involved are either still quite rookies who haven't yet put anything out, or are Aaron Moreland (the excellent Resolution) or Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes), who are highly talented, but specialize in much longer and significantly more complex stories. The type of thing that they couldn't do here.
The Michael Myers and Dr Loomis figures look awesome :)
That's why I like you Chris. You watch and review movies I'll never see.
"WORST NIGHTMARE,CAUGHT ON SKYPE!" quote from V/H/S 1
don't forget that Unfriended stuff that got put in the ending song of V/H/S 1
and "FOUND THE FOOTAGE"
remove THE and you get "FOUND FOOTAGE" that was a hard-to-spot pun
I REALLYYYY hope that somebody gets a group of people that are REALLYYYY good
and make a prequel that is called
D/V/D
would be really cool to see how V/H/S really begin
and what caused the huge wall of domino's to come crashing down to create the first V/H/S movie.
If I were to take a guess what made the first 2 work was that the people behind each short were given the freedom to do what ever they wanted and were a loud to get passionate. Here it all had to relate back to a central theme so no one was able to go all out
WHat do you think of the ABCs of death movies which are like VHS
A story about the night someone plans to kill their girlfriend but finds out she's more than what he thought she was (supernaturally speaking)
A story about a child who claims the babysitter is abusive and the parents set up nanny cams only to find out that the nanny is part of a cult or something, and then they have to rush home to save their kid and all hell breaks loose.
K.C. Hunter I actually really love those ideas!!
Wait, so The ABC's of Death 2 is actually good? I couldn't get through the first one so I figured the second one would be even worse.
