Underrated. I’m in Australia and you really cannot have enough sun protection here. And in the event it rains (not often, admittedly) the cap keeps rain off my sunglasses.
They also have an undeniable health benefit (particular for those of us with little hair). I have quite a few freckles and regularly get a check up from my dermatologist to ensure none have developed into anything more serious. He is adamant that I should always protect my head against the sun, even on a bike with a helmet and with suncream on. Won't argue with that, better safe than sorry.
I started wearing them a couple of years ago, after getting stung by wasps entering the vents a couple of times. Now I always wear one any time of year, in the winter they keep you warmer and keep rain out of your eyes, in the summer they soak up and evaporate your sweat effectively. I don’t find them too hot even on the hottest days, especially if you choose a lightweight one.
Keeps my bald head from needing sunscreen, or getting burned to a crisp. I love them. Definitely agree about how good they keep sweat out of the eyes too.
i wanted to try one for the summer, because when i get into the drops, my sweat POURS into my eyes, dripping from the front of my helmet. was hoping it would work as a thinner sweatband. just got pretty cold though.
Underrated. Anything than can protect us from the sun and skin cancer is a must IMO. Most helmets aren’t a full helmet so sun still penetrates through to our head. A lot of men are bald and skin cancer is very common on bald men’s heads. Any kind of protection is a MUST
Underrated- if you are follicly challenged they protect your head from sun, rain, cold, insects and the visor keeps the low winter sun out of your eyes and rain! Some of them are shite and some of them shrink in the wash. Best cap I’ve got is a Nopinz one that is lightweight for summer and never shrinks when you wash the litre of sweat out of it after a ride!
Being folically challenged and riding long distances, a cap is a must. That way I don't need to put sunscreen on my head, and then have it drip into my eyes.
Cycling caps are a good ice breaker while wearing regular clothes. I was at a sub shop and a lady walked straight up to me and said you're a cyclist, can you tell me how to get to the Silver Comet Trail?
Under rated. Prefer lightweight ones which breathe. Cotton are heavy. Prendas made a rain proof one which is/was outrageously good for the money. Peak down because the water stays away from your glasses. Floppy peaks are a NO.
you can hide it in your backpocket on such occassions, however I normally wet them with water and find it cooler than w/o the cap. Bald men also need it for sun protection.
If you want to wear a hat while cycling there really is no better option lol or I guess wearing your non cycling hat backwards to avoid the wind knocking it off
Everything I heard from these two concerned the wearing of one with a helmet. The whole idea being missed is wearing one and not wearing a useless and idiotic helmet! You protect your head from the summer sun, you stay cooler and more comfortable, you have a visor for the sun with it, you aren't de-naturalized with your perceptions in any way, and you look better with it and more like a traditional cyclist. In fact, plenty of us grew up at a time without overly protective parents telling is we had to have a helmet on and also without any other kids ever wearing one. We simply didn't need them. In a way, you're being kind of being a fraud wearing a cap if you refuse to ditch the helmet. But sure you want the benefits of them, but can't get off the suckling of the helmet. For now, I'll not get into the list of negatives about helmets (since this is about the pros of caps) but there are a number of them, even a couple of which reasonably deter me from ever having one on.
For me, peak down for keeping the glasses dry and can still use them. Underrated

Exactly. Same here in California.
They are actually very useful when riding in a home trainer. It catches A LOT of sweat!
100%. That's the main reason I wear them. Literally to stop sweat.
Yep same
They shield your eyes from the low sun off season.
Underrated, in the summer help with sweat peak up and sun peak down. In the winter keeps you warm peak up and eyes dry in the rain peak down.

Definitely agree about how good they keep sweat out of the eyes too.
If one has a large head, like myself, it is hard to find ones that fit and don't create quite a headache after a while.
I can barely ride without one. I live in Australia, it's getting very hot here, and they catch the sweat very efficiently.
what kind of headphones do you have?

If you live somewhere with sun they are underrated. I wear them all seasons and they keep sweat off my glasses as an added bonus.
If you wear specs, peak keeps the rain off them. Being able to see is definitley underrated...
Being folically challenged and riding long distances, a cap is a must. That way I don't need to put sunscreen on my head, and then have it drip into my eyes.
I use when i'm wearing my normal eye glasses on days I can't be bothered to wear contact lenses
I love mine.. I’m balding badly so no weird tan lines from vented helmet.. and catches sweat.. then again I also like a top tube bag.!🤷🏼♂️🤣🤣
i like protecting my helmet and i like the brim

I think they look much cooler than a baseball cap. Helmets sort of make them obsolete when riding.

Agree with keeping the rain off your glasses. Also useful when riding into the rising or setting sun.
Essential wet weather kit
Cycling caps fold up tiny and flat so you have something for on your head when you take your helmet off. Try that with a baseball cap...
Yes for the balds!!
Good for the rain, but awful on a sunny day up a hard climb putting down an effort.
you can hide it in your backpocket on such occassions, however I normally wet them with water and find it cooler than w/o the cap. Bald men also need it for sun protection.
Good for rain.
I live in Florida and cycling caps are just not a thing here. The last thing we want is anything that's going to make us hotter.
If you want to wear a hat while cycling there really is no better option lol or I guess wearing your non cycling hat backwards to avoid the wind knocking it off
Cycling caps are great in the rain. Keeps the rain out of your eyes. Other than that: useless
Overrated… I have a big head. Get headache wearing them 😅
Trucker caps are just as useless as the cycling cap
Francis' knowledge of music is definitely overrated. 😂 East 17 who's that...
There may not be anything more overrated than a cycling cap. It’s nothing more than a fashion reach.
Caps are overrated. They don’t do anything functional that can’t be done better by something else, and they just don’t look good under a helmet

MASSIVELY Over-rated. The only use is to where them backward to protect your neck from sunburn..., but there's sun cream for that. 👎🏻
