I watched you play and then I did the same and finally got the S Rank! It seems like playing close-ish to Akaza forces him to use his kicks which are easily avoidable, and then you can just pummel him. Thanks so much for the video!
What I like about some anime games is that, when the anime in question has lots of terms and movements, the game makes you understand them individually, so when you're getting a crazy fight in the anime you're not like "wtf are they doing now"
I do everything perfect I'm doing the combos, the dodging and taking each opportunity yet somehow my Akasa is smarter than the TH-cam vids I see because I time things on point and yet after he slam ground and I'm already dashing he doesn't let me combo and immediately I get punished
This Tutorial is no doubt great & it works. Wait for him to throw the Upper Kick and attack him. But my Akaza doesn't behave like yours. He use to attack when i attack him after his upper kick, and i know its not my timing issue. The CPU is very well randomly programmed. No Matter how many times i tried i could get more than 90 % of HP. One time my Hp went till 'o' of Kyojuro & i didnt get S i got A, because i took longer time. So here's my Plan Use this tutorial of him as a gameplan but Go Aggressive. Attack him with blazing universe, i.e tilt triangle when he smashes down on the ground & also attack as shown in video . Key is to beat him in less time & nail the quick time events in the end. I lost about 40-50% of my Hp but still got S rank. You won't lose much Hp when ur busy attacking him. And do Boost once for 100 points. SO yeah Long story short, doesn't matter if you lose 40% of Health just finish him quickly. I Finally Got the S rank today & now i can get Platinum, it was a serious repeat grind though. All the Best Don't give up.
Really sucks that the way they designed this fight as a “perfect” run completely fails to meet the epic standards of the Anime version. Clashing directly is punished and your essentially dodging for two full minutes at a time to get the same basic combo in repeatedly. Glad they decided to end this story mode with a Rengoku dream finale instead on fairer ground.
his kicks dont let me hit him is there another way? edit: thats the only part i cant get past fr cuz when he does a slam kick it doesnt let me attack right after like you do
Right when he starts his slam kick. You should be dashing towards him. After the dash he should be stunned and you should be able to combo him right away. It’s all about timing

Yea I just genuinely think this fight isn't all there, sometimes Rengoku just doesn't respond to my commands he just stands there, gets stuck performing an action over and over until I press the button for said action to get him out of it or just reacts a second after the command is given which at that point the attack window is gone or. The dodge serves no purpose as the Akaza in my game just doesn't behave the same way, he literally is pausing his own combos to chase me down after dodging and catches me to resume his combo (like wtf thats not a thing) or he doesn't move as the invisible wall is there when dodging and gets caught. Both controllers are new and work fine in all other games. Its just a poorly designed rubbish excuse for a fight.

1 year later I can't pass this level it's my second to last trophy to get for platinum
The only thing keeping me from the Platinum on this game is the S rank on chapter 8 (4 battles I need to S rank)

My favorite window is after he dashes to the power slam, speed dash as he hits the ground and punish
