Me too!! It finally clicked for me when Kiki shows her dinner plate, half veg, half starch. Now I get it. I finally gave up bread and nuts, have lost a few lbs. Love her videos!
It took me a year to figure out how to make brown rice I actually like. Heat instant pot to medium saute. Rinse rice. Add to hot instant pot and water saute 3-4 mins. Hit cancel. Add water (1.25 cups per cup of rice). Cook high pressure 22 mins, 10 minute natural release. It's perfect every time. Brown jasmine and basmati work with this method as well!
Thanks to your encouragement, I've gon back to sweet potatoes and steamed veggies for breakfast. My tummy is Much happier. Plus the two pounds I gained over the last year have disappeared. I love steaming my greens on top of sauteed mushrooms, onions, and garlic. Today I steamed green beans, zucchini, and red pepper seasoned with oregano and lemon.
I ❤ your videos. Lost 4 pounds in a week so far. Not hungry, no cravings and feel great. My pains are pretty much gone. Just can’t eat everything I make! It’s too much but I’m so thankful to have found this way of eating and your videos! Thank you so much.
You have the most informative and sensible starch solution channel!!!! Love your use of easy to find accessible ingredients and no fuss recipes. Great channel!! I hear you on the instant pot and beans. To make things easy I just soak beans over night (not lentils) then cover with water, add seasoning and instant pot for 50 minutes (garbanzo 60 min). Soft beans every time. You are beautiful and inspiring. Thanks.
Absolutely love your channel. I binged watched all your videos, such an inspiration! After watching this one during my lunch break at work, went home and made the air fryer potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts and broccoli. All that served with a huge green salad 😀

Adding water before you put the mushrooms in cools the pan off making them take longer to cook. Let them cook without water, add Worcestershire sauce, let cook a little longer then use water to deglaze the pan if they are sticking.
Hi! I'm rewatching all the videos to get myself back into the swing of 50/50. I wanted to share what I've done with your soy/rice vinegar dressing. Use the ginger, and garlic paste instead of powder and if I'm making a sushi bowl, I add the wasabi paste as well. Amazingly good!

For diversity, I like to mix my brown Basmati rice 50/50 with other grains. For example: I cook my rice for 26 minutes adding in for last 10 mins millet I have soaked overnight. or, for last 15 minutes quinoa I have soaked overnight or lastly for last 7 minutes buckwheat which has been soaked overnight. I don’t soak my brown Basmati as it doesn’t seem to benefit from being soaked. You can also combine the brown rice with Amaranth 50/50 and this is good too. Happy healthy eating! Much love Jane xx
Hi Kiki, Been watching a lot of your videos and it has truly inspired me. I am experiencing some the same symptoms as you had. It's nice to know that you healed yourself naturally. Thank you for your videos. Much appreciated.
I make a similar mushroom dish: onion, garlic, braggs liquid soy, mushrooms, kale and nutritional yeast, makes an awesome whole foods breakfast for those that prefer savoury breakfasts. As for brown rice try different kinds, I personally like jasmine rice either brown or white, but brown basmati is also good.
The bamboo steamer looks really nice. I've never used one before, thanks for the tutorial.... In regards to brown rice, have you tried brown Jasmine rice? It is so delicious (to me).
Buy a steam basket for yr instant pot and steam away ! Veggies , potatoes, I use it daily . It is great for soups too ! Check out some utube videos on instant pot cooking . I do not have an air fryer....yet ! THANK YOU 🙏 for yr recipes , tips, suggestions, demonstrations and encouragement dear KIKI 😘. Just received my Starch S. Book ! Tks
I adore my instant pot but also had an issue with undercooked beans. the trick for me is to do the 8 hr/overnight soak - use the cooking time (shorter time) for soaked beans and they're perfect!
This was very helpful for me. Thank you for taking time to educate us. I’m been wanting to do vegan/whole foods but did not know where to begin. You have made it simple. Much love❣️
I do half brown half white rice all the time! I use Trader Joe's Quick cooking organic brown basmati rice, and organic white basmati. Together they cook either in 8 min in the Instant Pot or in a rice cooker in the regular rice setting. Thought it'd share for those asking about cooking both together!
Kiki, have you tried short grain brown rice. It’s far tastier than long grain. I cook it for 3 minutes on multigrain in the instant pot , then leave it to cook in its steam for 15 minutes, before natural release. Same with whole grains like buckwheat, oat groats, wheat berries. I just wanna mention, I was stuck for quite a while with my weight loss. I tried the half half plate but it didn’t work for me. I have now been eating 1-2 lbs of veggies a day , mixture of cooked and raw. I eat lbs in the morning before any starch. Same for my second meal. I think I was not eating enough cooked and it was Dr Mc Doughall on his fb page that cooked veggies ie soup plays a different role than raw . My favourite is the IP, air fryer and vitamix 😊
Plant Plotters Paradise you are right on about the short grain brown rice. I thought I didn’t like brown rice until I tried short grain. Now I really don’t like white rice anymore. I cook mine in the IP 22 min on manual and let it come down naturally if I have time. I’ll have to try your way and see if there’s much difference.
GTMustang24 Yeay 😊 Forgot to say rice/ water ratio 1:1.5 Let me know and if you try other whole grains that way . If ever they’re not cooked, just put IP lid back on and wait a bit longer
Love brown rice. I use any sort, tho usually medium grain coz that's the one that comes on special here. Cook it in the pressure cooker 20 minutes using just over one cup water to cup of rice, slow release. I used to use more water but found the grains on top were drier and chewy while those on the bottom ended up more sludgy and starchy. I love it drier and chewy so less water enables that. I know the calorie density is higher but because the digestion is slower it keeps me full longer and ends up pretty much the same as far as weight loss is concerned. A case of personal preference really. Do what suits and works; makes life simpler and more enjoyable.
I don’t like brown rice either and I’ve cooked it on the stovetop, instant pot and my Japanese rice cooker. Theres like a starchy coating on it that I don’t like. HOWEVER .... someone posted a method on fb and it’s delish!!! It smells like popcorn when it’s cooking. I love it!! You need a regular rice cooker though. 1 1/2c brown basmati rice 1/2c sweet brown rice 1T mirin Soak rice for at least 12 hrs. No longer than 20. Drain and put in rice cooker. Add 18 oz water and cook. So so good with none of that coating.
naomi L what is sweet brown rice? I buy uncle bens brown par cooked rice and mix it with white rice. Never have soaked the rice and not familiar with Miri. Also trying to find brown rice more tasty.
Joan Asaad These are both regular rice and I didn’t know what it was either but I bought it off of amazon. Mirin is a Japanese version of cooking sherry but much better.
I currently steam my potatoes on the stove top but have been wanting to get an Instant Pot. Financially I couldn’t get one but I am finally getting one next month. It seems so easy to make food so I am so excited!
Plantiful Kiki when you said you could put pounds of potatoes in there..... yaaaassss!!!! But I need an air fryer as well. I want a little one though because I only like that kind of food.
Another great video! I watched this morning while on my treadmill and then immediately copied your breakfast. DELICIOUS! Thank you for always reinspiring me. I'm down at least 13 lbs so far. Just in time for vacation. I encourage you to get a cuisinart griddler. They make amazing oil free hashbrowns.
For the beans - I’ve made pinto and black beans in the instant pot, both the same way: 2 cups beans, 4 cups water and then all my seasonings, give it a mix and put them in for 25 mins... they cook perfectly. If you don’t like the excess water you can just drain it, I leave it in the container so the beans don’t try out in the fridge. I’ve also used my hand blender and made the pinto beans into refried beans, I just drain the bean water and keep that bean water and add it back as I blend
Yeah. I do our beans in the slow cooker usually but all my broth, potatoes, etc. in my Instant Pot most of the time. Gotta have my high-powered blender, but I don't have an air fryer-just use my convection oven instead. Great video!
For the beans in the Instapot. What I’ve noticed is that you should always put a ton of water. Regardless of the amount of beans you put. Sometimes I put 2 cups of dry and fill the Instapot to the half line. Generally for Red Kidney Beans from dry it takes 55 minutes on manual high pressure to get to canned beans quality. I only use the preset bean/chili option when I have pre-soaked beans. For soaked I do the same, water wise, but use whatever is the recommended time in the manual sheet the pot comes with. NEVER LEAVE THE “KEEP WARM” ON FOR BEANS. And ALWAYS natural release.
Use your IP on the slow cook setting! And brown rice is great if you use brown basmati or jasmine. We only use those types, either white or brown...so nutty and yummy!
You give awesome inspiration, Thanks for another motivating video! Two of our daughters started bing watching your channel & started eating this way too :)
I know this is irrelevant, but I've only just started watching your vids and you're absolutely stunning. Beautiful 😍 I look forward to learning from you 😊
I just found your channel and I'm absolutely blessed!!!❣️❣️❣️ I did just find doing cooked beans in the air fryer for sprinkling on my salad as croutons 👍 definitely going to try the potatoes that way in the air fryer. Yummy yummy 😋😋 thanks for sharing!! Xoxoxoxoxo
You might like basmati brown rice better than regular. Smells heavenly, tastes nutty. Love your soy & vinegar idea, and that you are a "no guilt" ketchup user. Me too! I even tried making my own, but what makes me happy is the healthiest store bought version I can find.
@@winsomecohall2250 whatever is the best price. Used to buy on sale from Sprouts in their bulk department but don't go there much since the pandemic. Found it on Amazon in a 10 lb. bag recently. Anything $1.99/lb. or lower is a good price.
I started today, would really like to lose 5 kg that somehow does not want to say goodbye to me (lost already 25 kg on a plant-based diet). I hope this will work out for me! Love your video’s and tips!
Love your channel!! With regards to diet, could you please talk about how you deal with relatives, social situations, kid's friends & school pressures, inviting people over to eat... We are a vegan family. I have found as my kids get older the bullying gets worse. My high school daughter is picked on all the time for what she eats, called "the vegan"...
I love your channel!! First, you are always on point with the food and maximum weight loss program. Secondly, you are hilarious! Look up Jill McKeevers instant pot books.
I still use my pressure cooker for beans and potatoes ... so easy. So I need no crock-pot or slow cooker. But what I could not live without is since I own it is the airfryer .
Instant pot beans - obviously depends on the beans. Black beans or pinto beans I do for about an hour so they are super soft. I do find I prefer them made with a manual pressure cooker but that's way more effort. Chickpeas I do for 80mins. Hope you get to enjoy instant pot beans. 💚💚
On the milk I am a breast cancer survivor and told to really stay away from soy products. I do almond milk & have for years. What other milk do you suggest besides soy since on this plan one should limit nuts?
Ha! I love that you didn’t get out of your pyjamas all day! I’m glad you showed how you do potatoes, I have an under utilised air fryer, so can’t wait to try that. Thanks for the video, don’t know why I’m watching it while I’m attempting a five day fast ...
I love your videos so far. I have a question since you have kids. I have. 3 boys and they tend to stay on the thin side. Do you add or do anything different than what you showed for your kids or do they eat the meals you showed as well? Thanks!
Hey Kiki, again, I LOVE your channel! Have you ever eaten a cooked, but cold, sweet potato? It tastes like pumpkin pie! I batch cooked like you do, and when I went to prepare them the next day, and I tried one cold just to see. It was awesome! I put some cinnamon on it which made it even better!
Yum rice, chef Ming Tsai shared a recipe from his restaurants, house rice is 1/2 brown and 1/2 white, chef soaks brown rice in water 1 hour then he cooks/ steams them together( reg raw white rice and the soaked, drained brown rice 🍚
Like Dr. McDougall (and Mary Poppins), a little sugar here and there (i.e. ketchup, BBQ sauce, etc.) is okay if it helps the "medicine" go down. I'm so glad you spotlighted the fat free dressings from Maple Grove Farms of Vermont! Their dressings helped me out tremendously, because so many "healthier" dressings are still mostly fats and oils. (Just read the labels and do the math: 10 grams of fat x 9 calories per gram = 90 calories of fat in a 100 calorie serving. That's still 90% fat!!!) The first Maple Grove dressing I ever sampled (by itself) was their Wasabi Dijon. It was delicious on my quick-lunch-in-the-grocery-store-parking-lot salad, but boy was it spicy, especially the aftertaste! You might love it. But now I dilute it with another, milder dressing or some apple cider (or balsamic) vinegar. Nevertheless, I've liked just about every FF dressing of theirs I've tried: Poppy Seed, Honey Dijon, Balsamic, Cranberry Balsamic... I think the Honey Dijon is my favorite. Haven't seen the Lime Basil one you held up. Lately, I don't even use a bottled dressing on my salad, just a tasty vinegar, some flavorful mustard, some hummus, salsa and/or a little BBQ sauce depending on what's in the salad mix. Indeed, taste buds change. Thanks for the encouragement! It's not all about the number on the scale. It's about total health.
You need to try Yellowbird hot sauces. You can get at Whole Foods or on Amazon. Jalapeño condiment is the best flavor. Other ones are super spicy! Instant Pot beans: I highly recommend soaking your beans the night before. For soaked overnight pinto beans, cook 30 mins & they will be perfectly cooked and some split apart. If you quick soak the pinto beans with boiling water for at least an hour or two, try 35-40 mins. For soaked overnight black beans, 15 mins minimum for perfectly cooked. For quick soaked black beans you can try 20-25 mins.
I’m in love with you videos. Will you a video of kitchen tools like wooden container you hold you spices in and what kind of non stick pan you use. Thanks
Hi! I was so excited to buy my Nuwave air fryer yesterday. I excitedly fired up a batch potatoes in it. However, I need some tips! My potatoes, which I cut into French fry type wedges, came out leathery! The inside is cooked correctly, but the outside is not crispy at all. It is leathery! I cook them on the recommended setting, which was 25 minutes at 400 degrees. What did I do wrong? Or is this simply a situation where I need to adjust my tastes, and I will get used to the different texture? Thanks for helping me to change my eating habits. I have lost over 10 lbs, and it's really that last 15 lbs that I have struggled with. I have literally watched every video on your channel, and I find them super informative and helpful, as I am totally new to Whole Food plant-based eating I really like your content. Another great video. You inspired me to try a more WFPBD. As a side bonus I lost a few pounds. I like how you make this way of eating simple.
The instant pot is fabulous for soups. I eat soup every day for lunch and make a big pot which lasts the week.
You are awesome plus I LOVE the way you don’t insist everyone subscribe and click the bel icon...arghh I’m so over being told to do that😩
Kiki, have you tried short grain brown rice.
GTMustang24 Yeay 😊 Forgot to say rice/ water ratio 1:1.5
Let me know and if you try other whole grains that way .
1 1/2c brown basmati rice
1/2c sweet brown rice
1T mirin
Soak rice for at least 12 hrs.
Mirin is a Japanese version of cooking sherry but much better.
naomi L Tks for explaining . I like brown basmati rice , I will try soaking as u suggested. Tks .
You’re brilliant! Sensible and clear. Love it!
I currently steam my potatoes on the stove top but have been wanting to get an Instant Pot. Financially I couldn’t get one but I am finally getting one next month. It seems so easy to make food so I am so excited!
yay!! you will love it!
I don't like regular brown rice, but brown bismati rice has a different, more nutty flavor and I really like that one
Ip beans take 22 minutes and brown rice too :) Just use the manual setting.
Thank you Kiki for sharing the spices you use and your recipes, always looking for new toppings for my veggies.
Yeah. I do our beans in the slow cooker usually but all my broth, potatoes, etc. in my Instant Pot most of the time. Gotta have my high-powered blender, but I don't have an air fryer-just use my convection oven instead. Great video!
You are so beautiful& humble! I love how inspiring you are!
I just bought the butter pop zest I can’t wait to try it! Thanks for sharing great ideas 😁
Plant Based Sweetheart where did you find it?
Jazzy Glass Gems on amazon 😁
Use your IP on the slow cook setting! And brown rice is great if you use brown basmati or jasmine. We only use those types, either white or brown...so nutty and yummy!
You give awesome inspiration, Thanks for another motivating video! Two of our daughters started bing watching your channel & started eating this way too :)
Love this video!! Thank you for sharing
That is how I feel about the instapot, so glad to hear I am not the only one.
I know this is irrelevant, but I've only just started watching your vids and you're absolutely stunning. Beautiful 😍 I look forward to learning from you 😊
Mike James it’s relevant 😀. She became prettier because of the healthy lifestyle she has now 👍
@@VeganGroceryLife ah that's true 🙂
Delightful! Lots of great tips. Thx again!
Thanks for keeping it so simple! Luv the videos 😊♥️
What brand of Basmati brown rice do you use please .. thanks
All of these meals look delicious! Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring us.
This is very helpful!! I need to try the coconut aminos. Thanks for everything! I always feel good watching your videos 😍.
Pajamas all day - “which means it was a good day.” Love it. It was unexpected and made me chuckle. 😁
Omg we love you! Couldn't live without my nutri-bullet 🌟
Thanks for all the tips!
Awesome video!!!! Loved those potatoes!!!im gonna try them tonight!
Thank you Kiki! You are such an inspiration!!!
I found if I cook my beans on the Manual setting instead of the Bean settings they come out much softer.
Without question these are DELISH!
yes they are soooo good!!
I always do 1/2 white rice and 1/2 brown rice. It's the best of both worlds 😁
WHAT A TRUE SWEETHEART!! GOD BLESS YOU
Yum rice, chef Ming Tsai shared a recipe from his restaurants, house rice is 1/2 brown and 1/2 white, chef soaks brown rice in water 1 hour then he cooks/ steams them together( reg raw white rice and the soaked, drained brown rice 🍚
For soaked overnight pinto beans, cook
30 mins & they will be perfectly cooked and some split apart. If you quick soak the pinto beans with boiling water for at least an hour or two, try 35-40 mins.
For soaked overnight black beans, 15 mins minimum for perfectly cooked. For quick soaked black beans you can try 20-25 mins.
I enjoy your videos so much! You are my new favorite TH-camr!
Thank you!
Jill McKeefer has a youtube channel with lots of instant pot recipes.
Your channel is refreshing, realistic, family friendly, and uplifting. Thanks for sharing.
Try basmati brown rice,it tastes much milder.
Hi, Kiki! Thanks for sharing all your tips and recipes and links to products! This question may have already been asked and answered, but where do you get the jars that hold your spices?
