      I'm 58 and fixing to try it myself! Lol Any advice? I don't know what "25 torques" for the socket size... Or what that tool is for removing the clips....wish me luck! The video is very encouraging!!

    Thanks @volvosweden for this really helpful video, it is by far the best of the bunch. You show each step, especially the crucial tunnel sliding one, where the spring and pry clips are, how long each screw is, everything.
    Just a small addendum for 2008 C30 users: There is no small plate with 12V socket in and two of the steps are reversed. Remove the shield from around the handbrake, then slide the tunnel backwards *just before* trying to unscrew the two screws at the bottom of the waterfall, rather than the other way round as shown on the S40. On the C30, the tunnel sliding step is the critical magic that every other video misses. Without it you can see but cannot reach those two screws.

    Magnet polarity makes a difference. 2009 C30. I bought a blind, but once fitted the manual gear selection did not show. I removed it, put the original magnet slider in the new blind and it worked. The original slider was marked POM3, the new one POM2. if you put the faces of the two sliders togther, they attract, if they were both the same polarity they would repel.

    Really helpful. Job done easily on my 2006 C70 with your video, thank you.
    I did have a scare that when I started the engine soon after reassembling none of the dash board instruments were working, but this sorted itself in a few minutes - something rebooting?? It’s worth mentioning in case others have the same heart stopping moment!!
    On 2006 C70 no need to remove cubby tray behind floating console or slide the centre console back.
    The most difficult part for me was putting the gear shift handle back.

      I had some weird messages myself. (best guess) it`s mainly due to disconnecting the display (hence why I`m guessing the guy suggested disconnecting the battery before you unplug them cables)

    Thank you very much for this video. You saved me a lot of time and money to figure out what was wrong with my daughter's car (my daughter got stuck in a grocery store parking lot), and then to resolve the problem myself. Without your video, I may have had to have my daughter's car towed and would have paid the repair shop to resolve the problem. Thank you again.

    7:05 It is not necessary to remove the fragile PC board; it can remain attached to the plastic piece beneath it, which protects it while it's all disassembled. Take the plastic part and the PC board off as an assembly.

    My 2010 V50 had a slightly different console, but I figured it out! It took over 30 minutes to get the shift knob off. Here is how I did it, out of frustration: I put both hands on the knob and yanked it upward with both hands. It came right off to my surprise. My new blind is now in and working. Thank you!!

  • @Bunnixbb
    @Bunnixbb ปีที่แล้ว

    Just replaced my gear shift cover using this video as a guide, thank you so much!
    To remove the gear shift knob the bottom ring needs to be completed detached from the shifter, I did this by disconnecting the cover with the gears on it and moving the D/Manual slot to the shifter and then pushing the ring down onto this space as it is large enough to fit the entire ring and then the gear shifter knob easily came off
    In my 2008 V50 I didn't need to remove the screws in the center storage to be able to remove the main console.

    great video. just did the replacement shift blind on my wife's c70. While everything was open, I ran wires from the cigarette lighter to the upper panel behind the waterfall and surface-mounted an extra cigarette light / USB jack ports. Now my wife can plug in the garmin without wires draping down the front and she has charging ports for her phone. Unless you look behind the waterfall, everything looks the same from the front. The garmin will also double up as her backup camera which I'm still working out the wiring routing with the truck lid.

    I found also this small magnet, but I seen on the comment it's coming from the blind, so I will got one with the new

    On the c30 2011-2013: to slide back the center console and get to those two waterfall lower screws, there is a small plastic tab to lift on the driver side, behind waterfall, below coin tray. That is key! Lift that and slide back, remove two lower waterfall screws, and you’re in business!!
    Also, no need to remove battery when doing this job.
    Best way to remove shift lever: key in position II, foot on brake, shift to manual mode - else you’ll get dang frustrated!

    Omg.. my wife's 2009 S40 has been "broken" for 3 years now (or more) and I never thought it could do this! It won't let you pop over and manually shift it.. but it NEVER crossed my mind that it could eventually lock into place! I must take care of this ASAP.. how many shop hours would this be as I am afraid to lose a screw or break a bracket or worse break a board, connector or screen?

    • @volvosweden

    • @Shifty_Eyed_Dog
      @Shifty_Eyed_Dog 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@volvosweden they charged 1.5 hours... I let them do it. However they did an ac check up (would have been warranty since they replaced the compressor less than a year ago) plus I had them check the 12 volt outlet since they had the center console apart anyway.

      I need help! About a month ago on my 2010 XC90 3.2 I started to get a Power System Service Urgent coupled with a battery light intermittently. I assume this is a bad alternator issue. Been to TWO shops and it's currently at a 3rd one after having to be towed. None of the shops can recreate this and tell me there is NOTHING wrong...I am saying take my money 💰 and please fix however I get nothing. Was already stranded once and had to be towed.. not fun and I work 27 miles from home and thankfully I was less than 5 miles from home when it failed.. any input would be appreciated.. vehicle is in shop now as we speak..

      It comes from the shifter blind part he’s replacing. It’s used so the car recognizes that you are putting it in the manual mode. The part will fall apart over time causing the magnet to come out, so the car won’t recognize you are putting it in manual mode.

      Yes. The manual mode was not precise and gave a delay in shifting. After the shifting was instant in manual mode. Also there was a small hole in the blind, with time it got worse.

    You can also use the physical metal key from your fob in the hole to the lower left of the shifter. So at least you aren’t stranded.
    Thanks for the video, this just happened to me, in the first Volvo I’ve owned newer than the 90s.
