Same. I went to Spotify and played his first album, it just left me in total awe and sadness. What a genius he was, phenomenal music. 38 is way too soon to go.
Luckily I was able to follow him for a bit while he was still around but the same happened to me with Jason Molina and Magnolia Electric Co and I was just so sad how amazing his songwriting and emotion was, and then to find out he had taken his life just made me feel horrible.
@@chaseharrison5469 Molina was another massive loss, just terrible. Just scored a copy of an Italian live show recently. Mi sei apparso come un fantasmo- Songsohia . One of the best I've heard...
I found JTE when I was living in Nashville, over 10 years ago. One of my first introductions to country music. He’s helped me through a lot of hard times over the years. I was genuinely upset when I heard about his death. Still come back to his songs after all this time.
I've never listened to this guy before. Glad I found him, sad he's gone. It's like listening to Jim Croce for the first time. I had to pick my jaw up, off the floor, after the bit about who, between the shepherd and the wolf, has killed more sheep. Maybe 3 or 4 times, in my 38 years, that a line has caught me that off guard. Stunning, really.
Justin was gettin’ his musical mojo when it came crashing down. There’s no tellin’ how far he would have climbed. That Earle bloodline is indisputably ineffable
So sad. I met him and told him how much his music meant to me. We talked until soundcheck. Thankful for his grace and music and wisdom and pain, in any order. Huge loss.
Sometimes you stumble upon a song that reminds you, that you're not alone in this cold world. Sometimes you hear the first verse and it fills you with the sensation it was written for you. Because every word and note hits right on those heart strings. Guess I'll be praying tonight. ✌
Addiction lies to you, it tells you that you are King of the World. But it is an empire of ashes. You trade what is most valuable in life for nothing and the soul is annihilated. RIP JTE.
5 years ago my 21 year old fell into a coma and Justin on a 24 hour loop played at his bedside. You saved us both back then. We will truly miss you like we had the pleasure of knowing you. Rest Easy, Justin.
The power in the guitar jams in this song are just insane, after every line when the guitar notes follow it gives me goosebumps, especially after he says about the best block on Beverly Hills
I'm a bad dream I'm not a nightmare, I'm too goody for that Let's just say I'm the last thing you wanna see coming I'm the reason they say watch your back But for so long, I was like a wounded hound Backed into a chain-link fence The world at large was just a big, mean kid Poking me through the fence with a stick Ain't nobody goin' back It takes a whole lotta hurt Paralyze one of life's biggest lessons Ain't got nothing to do with dessert Just pray to the Saint of Lost Causes It's a cruel world But it ain't hard to understand You got your sheep, got your shepherds Got your wolves amongst men It can be hard to tell You might find a wolf in shepherd's clothes And now and then you're gonna find sheep In amongst all those troubled souls You know more folks that's most afraid of the wolf If you really stop and think Throughout time, between a wolf and a shepherd Who do you think has killed more sheep? Nah, there's nothing can be done It's just the way it goes First you get bad, then you get mean Then there's nothing left but to grow cold And pray to the Saint of Lost Causes Some will say I've got no feeling No heart, and surely no shame Truth is that this has been with me so long That I, I must admit I kinda like the pain How many encounters do you ever have? Better yet, how many wolves you ever seen? You got about as much chance of seeing one of them As you do running into me Still take nothing for granted Might live on the best block in Beverly Hills Be sure you lock up tight at night 'Cause you know poor folks ain't got nothing to steal Just pray to the Saint of Lost Causes

I think what Justin needs to do is split his sets into two parts. I really don't think you can mix this sound with the solo folk type stuff and even the blues. He should play like all the songs off of Harlem River Blues and Nothings Gonna Change, and some of the old stuff plus the recent good ones, and then go on an intermission, and come out and play saint of lost causes and maybe even some full band versions of absent fathers, single mothers, and kids in the street.
Always kills me finding an artist after their passing. Damn man rest in peace.

That guitar at 1:34 it is really speaking to ones soul. So many feelings embedded in a few notes..

Did your son end up being okay? I see this comment every time I come here for the last year and I always wonder. I hope so.
This one just pierces straight to the heart ... RIP Justin ... thanks for all the years of entertainment and counsel

But again, how many wolves you ever seen?

wonder if it's possible to find only the base, without the singer. Nothing to complaint about the singer, don't misunderstand me.
I can't pray anymore. Not even to St Judas Thadeus.
Only The Lord Jesus Christ is real.
Catholism is not Christianity.

This other stuff is more up beat river folk or up beat blues this is much more of a down beat slower placed blues
