These are the big 4 isometric esque action adventure games on the Genesis. The only one I've beaten so far is Beyond Oasis, it's fantastic, literally a work of art. The art style synergizes really well with the xbrz filter as well
Great video bro to be honest Genesis doesn't get the recognition it deserves I grew up in 3d Era but 2d games just age so well......also Light Crusader is amazing anything treasure is.......
Story of Thor 2 on the Saturn is really good. Weapons are upgradable and won't break anymore. Statues give hints about the game's move set, the strongest being forward+back+forward and attack (3x), Beyond Oasis also has this move, it's strong but not as much. All the games you reviewed in this video are really high quality titles, I wouldn't personally pick one over the other, they are different enough, today all games look similar, back then art direction was everything. It's undeniable Landstalker's soundtrack and visuals being so close to those of Shining the Holy Ark and Shining Force I and II, it feels like a Shining side story. I hope YT suggests your video across gaming channels soon, you'll grow in no time and I hope the slow start doesn't take your enthusiasm as your content is top notch.
Landstalker originally WAS planned to be an offshoot of Shining Force, called "Shining Rogue" and it would have starred the hero of the first shining force.
Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole, is my favorite action-adventure-RPG game of all time. I play through it once a year and it is still a thrilling, fun playthrough through a beautiful game. It's not without its faults, and the narrative kind of slowly deflates near the end of the game, but finishing the game is such an accomplishment and ego boost. Landstalker, specifically, deserves a fan remaster. One of the big reasons I want to get into romhacking is to give Landstalker a story overhaul, with more Friday/Nigel interaction, especially near and through the end game. And if that Landstalker map editor ever comes out, well, I will probably build a sequel from scratch. I've actually brainstormed up what I would have wanted to see for a direct sequel of sorts.
Oh man, I hope I was able to do it a little bit of justice then! I really, really enjoyed when I played it and wanted to give it more time but meant for this to be a shorter overview of each game. Once I got used to the control, I think that was my favorite of the lot though.
The editor is available since Jul 5th, I believe you already know about that, I hope you enjoy the process as you seem to have great inspiration towards this game.
Oh man!! Then Fan games finally just might become a reality!! I'd love to see what talented fans can make!! Hopefully they will add shadows to help with platforming!
@@atmaweapon2803After I played Landstalker on NSO this summer, I’d say it’s my new favorite game of all time…also my favorite game soundtrack of all time. It is just so amazing! If you ever made a sequel, you could base it off of the cancelled sequel “Landstalker Heart of Diamond” which was released as a fan magazine/manga !
Congratulations on the excellent video! One of the best gaming contents I've ever seen on TH-cam. Besides being very well conducted, I loved the effort to get developers' testimonials and reviews from that time about the game. It's a shame that your channel hasn't received the recognition it deserves yet. If I ever did something similar, your videos would be the quality standard I'd aspire to achieve. Thanks!
I think I agree! The SNES seems to get more positive talk and remembrance, but the Genesis has such a great library of games. Lots of innovation and experimentation.
It definitely was not as good as the NES - the NES defined the entire category. But I can accept someone saying they prefer it over SNES since the two systems had different types of games kind of.
Funny you say that, from all SEGA consoles, the Genesis is the only one that's far from being underrated. I think those who had brothers and enjoyed all these consoles can't actually pick one of the other, even the Atari 2600 is legendary, the NES/SNES are just as great as the SMS/GEN, it will depend on what you had as a kid, if you had them all, it would be pointless picking one favorite.
Snes has a lot of jrpg’s and action-adventure games but not so many crpgs. There’s Drakken and Shadowrun and a handful of others but mostly there are just tons of games which play very similarly. The Genesis/Mega Drive has a much wider variety of RPG and action-adventure games.
It may well be true, the SNES has literally hundreds of JRPGs, most of them are similar to one another structurally, being turn-based, tactical and the like.
Crusader of Centy is one of the best games on Genesis but it is not a great Action RPG. I had a good time playing it but my problem has always been that I feel like you play levels, one after the other without a journey. And it is very easy… I was playing RPGs on the Super NES at the same time, it was night and day… I still remember tons of sequences from Zelda III, I have a hard time remembering anything from Crusader of Centy, outside Sonic resting on a beach…
Landstalker is my favorite game ever. And it's up against very stiff competition, too.

Light Crusader is a fun game. Treasure always made great games, and they were all really unique ideas like that or Gunstar Heroes.

So would you say that in Crusader of Centy, that you select your animal ability by using the “Paws Menu”?
Well damn, I guess I have to re-record the script now to steal this joke hah!
Damn, how did your channel not blow up. Well informed and covering a range of more underappreciated titles. Good shit.

@@sozaj what are you talking about, the lack of shadows is the best part.
Joking, if I make a sequel with my own engine, I'll add shadows. 😅

Is this channel still active? I really dont want to find another channel I enjoy just to find out its dead, it really sucks lol
Why is David panting so heavily?
He's jumping around in a suit of plate armor! That stuff is heavy!
