    Would New Zealandish mums be styled to top, wearing heels when walking to a play ground or supermarket? What is a typical busy mum style in NZ? Would love to know it!

    Antoinette This is just another one of your great videos. I do think that you are beautiful. I have a backpack that I use to carry my spare camera and other equipment when I am doing a photo shoot and has a place to attach my tripod. A lot of people in the U.S.A. are now carrying backpacks. It seems to have become a trend to see men and women wearing backpacks as they have all sizes, shapes, and colors. I personally don't use a backpack unless I am going to be out and about for long periods so that I can have snacks and drinks and a place to put things that I might purchase. I truly enjoy the videos that you and Jovie post because I learn so much from them.

    I'm learning Basque, and I found out the word for "backpack" is bizkar-zorro. Zorro also also means "wallet" or "purse" - basically, a bag-type thing with compartments you use to carry things around in. They come in variety of colors and patterns designed to be attractive streetwear as well as practical hiking gear. They seem to have a similar attitude to balancing looks and practicality to what you're describing.

    I felt so out of place in terms of my clothing when I was travelling in Japan! I wore jeans most days and no one there wears jeans! They are apparently considered very casual and even jogging pants are seen as more suitable street wear!
    I love your style. It’s so hard to find nice clothes as a 30-something year old mum in Australia (i live in a regional city) as everything is closing down😭 There’s only shops for older women and very young girls left!

    My style changed quite a lot in 3 years in Germany too - which is not a given for Italians ;)
    Now I love very german combinations like colorful knee-socks on dark tights... And I became much more attentive to quality and the environement.
    I used to live in the very north though (Flensburg), so I guess there must also be differences. It would be very interesting if you would make a video about regional differences in language, culture, habits,... in Germany. I relate to a lot of your comments but there are also many aspects that I experienced very differently!

      Thats so true. Leaving in the north and west of Germany is so different compared to east and south of Germany. I for myself leaving in Lower Saxony thats in the north of Germany think that west and north got somewhat the same culture and habits. But there still difference's. This makes Germany even without other cultures already multicultural ^^

    Your taste in colours is very harmonious If you ever get back and/or knee pain try Vibram Fivefingers or other "barefoot" shoes - after a couple of weeks of getting used to them you'll walk much softer and easier - two friends recommended them years ago and I switched to them. A few strokes later they're a life saver.

    Blocky and brightly coloured backpacks DO look a little bit too much like school bags though. I'd personally go with a compact, rounded one in toned down colours. Big enough for some books or even a short hike, but not as huge as a trekking or army backpack.

    • @swanpride
      @swanpride 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Since I usually only have a few things I want to take with me, I am still a fan of the extra small ones, which you can either wear as a handbag or a backpack.

    • @Alias_Anybody
      @Alias_Anybody 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That may be just my opinion but I think it's some kind of unspoken fashion rule that the extra tiny backpacks are primarily for girls/women and men rarely wear them. Especially if they are handbag-hybrids.

    • @swanpride
      @swanpride 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guess males tend to not wear them, but then, they don't really seem to have a use for those kind of bags either. I mean, they tend to stuff their money aso simply into the jeans, while women often wear clothing which doesn't have any really usable pockets (the exception is naturally the warm jacket). So the moment males have enough stuff to transport to warrant a bag, they go for one size bigger than the small ones. Paired with the fact that the small ones are often sold in the women section of the stores, they are kind of coded female.

    German women hate heels because they are very uncomfortable and really hurt while wearing and damage the foot‘s health, as well. When I wear even moderate heels, usually my feet hurt like crazy after only an hour or two. Nothing I could enjoy for an entire evening. Consider also, that in Germany, when going out, we usually rely on public transportation (especially when drinking is involved) and lots of walking (usually a lot more that in the U.S. or, I imagine, in New Zealand). We also have, in inner cities especially, so much cobblestone. Not exactly heel friendly... Thus we embrace the sneaker and more trekking-style shoes that one can actually walk in all day.

    • @keineinformation8607

      I had a time in my life where I enjoyed heels….in the beginning of my 40th. But you are Right About cobble Stone. :-D And People sometimes looked a bit strange…..like a lot of german women I am taller anyway. Was Kind of fun to look down on the men and see the strange look on the womens faces :-D. Heels can be comfortable if you dont choose the classical hin high heels. But usually a moderate heel is more comfortable (not a thin one though….cobble Stones....).

    @RO-zv9im 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi Antoinette! As always I enjoyed this video. I'm from the USA but I love the German culture. I love the quality and practicality of German fashion.
    I have more of a dressy style of fashion but it's a must that my clothes and shoes are modest, comfortable and of good quality. Here's why. A good rule that I try to follow in all life’s affairs is found in the Bible at Romans 15:2: “Let each of us please his neighbor in what is good for his upbuilding.” Other people look at us more than we look at ourselves. So, then, shouldn’t we try to give them something they will find pleasant to look at? Not something that makes them feel self-conscious because of their own appearance, but something that shows we care about their feelings.
    Antoinette, your style of dressing and your attitude shows that you also, follow this admonition to "please your neighbor in what is good for his upbuilding.” Therefore, since you are this way, no doubt, you are endeared by your husband, your children and with everyone else (all of these are your neighbors). Best wishes!

    • @keineinformation8607
      @keineinformation8607 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but that sounds strange to me. I believe in the bible, too. And I am Aware that culture differences also means differences in how to interprete the bible. I would never choose my clothes thinking About my neighbours and I severly hope that non of them thinks About me choosing their clothes.
      But that might be a cultural difference (I cant speak for villages though): It is simply not my Business what other People do and vice versa. Honestly: do you feel any difference for your personal life that really depends on what the neighbour is wearing?
      I dont care what they are wearing….I would not know it either. It is not important to me and I very much doubt that any of my neighbours would recognize the Quality of my clothes.
      As far as I understand that scripture it really has Nothing to do with clothes (okay....if we talk About "normal" clothes….if somebody would wear S/M clothes in the house I would be irritated….but we talk About normal Fashion here). And exspecially because there are poorer People who cant afford good Quality clothes I would never say that your Interpretation of this scripture is really what Paul meant. It would so much exclude poor People....just think About it.

    Hi Antoinette, I enjoy your videos but as a German I would like to add that there is a general change of style people went through. I don’t think it has so much to do with moving abroad but with changes all people and countries go through. For example, there wouldn’t be so many women wearing backpacks lets say 10 years ago. Same with the colours you mentioned. 10 or 15 years ago women wore bright colours and less sneakers. I think it more has to do with these changes.

    Well.... Fjällräven is not a German product - it is swedish. The name means: Hill/rock - fox. The j should be pronounced as an i.
    But You are right: It is a very Northern European thing - thus very German.
    It is a carry-all for what you need of accessories in Germany.
    I mean spanners and jacks for rotating wheels of a truck, first aid kit for minor brain surgery and disaster relief pumps. Just what any practically minded person has at hand.
    The background is more or less the Trümmerfrauen. During and after WW2 all the men were either dead, invalids or prisoners of war - and everything was a mess. Burned out cities. Rubble everywhere. So the women gritted their teeth and got to work. Yes that attitude has stayed.
    Generally German women are not small so high heels are not that much in demand.
    It is just like German food compared to French food. German food is not advanced cusine; but nurishing and tasty - and a lot of it. If You haven't tried: Pigs trotters (lots of really tasty meat on them) with sour cabbage and lots of mustard.

    • @swanpride

    I'm okay with the commercial, but the backpack you promote really hurts my eyes. Seriously, these are not colors made for adults. I got me a new backpack last autumn, after my old McKinley finally had faded away (honestly, you couldn't transport three bottles of beer in it any more without fear of tearing and losing the stuff), and I got me a rucksack. I didn't know the brand or read of it anywhere, but it seems to be a German brand, but a friend of mine told me to visit a sports store, and there they had it, amongst the everywhere adidas and so on brands, and I saw it and fell in love: Just a decent logo, all black, backstraps with an additional "buffer" to your back, size about the same as my old one, and I just asked: "How much?"
    She said, fifty.
    We had a deal.

    I think German women should get dressed up more.
    Being German myself I don't like the German casual style on German woman.
    I love heels and dressing feminine but not in a cheap way. -

      Anne Boleyn so geht es mir auch😅 wenn man sich so anzieht wird man leider oft schief angeschaut, was ich einfach schade finde.

      I'd argue it looks a little bit silly if someone (doesn't matter if man or woman) is totally dressed up in a tram or a very laid back workplace.

      Alias Anybody yea but it just looks silly because no one wants to dress up. Germany is the wrong place for dressing up (except in cities like Berlin) where nobody cares.

      @@Smilin but you don't have to be like anybody else.
      I know that's easier in big cities.
      But I live in Hamburg and still I think that loads of German women have got no dress sense.
