Fun Fact: The A's also were interested in getting a Designated Runner approved for certain hitters on the basepath that could run for them all the time as a rule across the league. This was being discussed the same time as the DH, but it obviously didn't stick.

Too convoluted, you want a faster runner he’s gotta come in to replace that guy in the field and the plate going forward. I’m in favor of universal DH but that designated runner thing eliminates necessary strategy.
How about a team choose between having a DH or pitch runner can t have both.

I remember listening to a Yanks Royals game in the car early in 2019. I was shocked that Gore was even on their roster, let alone starting. It really was a great gesture for the Royals to give him some playing time after he helped them during their playoff runs.

As a Tigers fan this video reminds me of Quinten Berry. I know he’s not quite the same, but he joined a competing team late and was used for his speed on the base paths. He got starting reps though and fell off in the playoffs/World Series

Yesterday Buck Showalter put in Terrance Gore to pinch run in the bottom of the 8th. Gore represented the go ahead run, stole 2nd, and eventually scored. Mets are in their September playoff push, so these late game Gore pinch-runs can really help tip the scale.
I should've known ahead that my AL Wild Card Game flashbacks were going to be triggered at some point when I clicked on a video about Gore and the '14-'15 Royals. I try to forget about Dyson and Gore after the 8th inning.

Terrance Gore is currently hitting .231 for the AAA Gwinnett Stripers. In 52 at-bats he has 12 hits, 3 doubles and a triple; he has 13 walks and 25 strikeouts and he's stolen 17 bases and scored 17 runs. He last played on Sunday, starting in left field.
I love the speed game. Billy Hamilton is one of my favorite players and I wish the Braves had kept him--they should have.

The pinch runner is definitely a scarce position these days. I always said Usain Bolt should be a pinch runner when he retired from the Olympics. That team would be legendary.
It might be a little surprising that someone who made a career running in a straight line might struggle compared to some of the guys we have nowadays that grew up playing baseball and have base running intuition. Staying with the royals, look at whit Merrifield who leads MLB in stolen bags. Not the fastest guy on the field but understands the game, knows what pitches to run on and when. Apply that to someone with gore's level speed and I'm taking them all day over someone like Usain Bolt who clearly has the edge on pure speed but ends there

I wish baseball would expand rosters to 40 players. The more specialists, the better: pinch hitters, pinch runners, defensive replacements. I want to see the best of the best in the sport- not see relievers take at bats in extra innings with orders not to swing the bat.
