I had read somewhere that Honda was only trying to sell 500 or so of these in 2025. It would be even more exclusive than driving a Mirai !

As a bonus, they're not making many, so it would be a pretty exclusive vehicle, and they get the sick clear rear tail lights.
    If you can charge at home and aren't set on the channel being Hydrogen focused, maybe a lease on an EV of your choosing (that isn't a Toyota or Subaru)? If you are considering the Honda CR-V FCEV, here are some info and some of my experience with the Clarity FCEV...
    There are three lease options with new CR-V:
    * 2 year, 60,000 mile allowable, $25,000 fuel card, $489/month
    * 3 year, 36,000 mile allowable, $15,000 fuel card, $459/month
    * 6 year, 72,000 mile allowable, $30,000 fuel card, $389/month
    With the Clarity, people were able to extend the lease and, if they had money left over on their fuel card, they were able to extend its use. Not sure if this would occur given there are now three lease options. Also with the Clarity, maintenance costs were not included, so that may be extra expense to consider.
    EPA range is only 270 miles with 4.3 kg hydrogen tank, but with an EV range of 29 miles.
    Norm Reeves Honda in Irvine has the car right now. Car Pros Honda in El Monte is suppose to have them in the future.

    • @brushlessmotoring
      @brushlessmotoring 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pressures involved, 10,000 psi / 700 bar, would make it a very expensive (and bulky) machine to have at home, look up Mike Strizki's Hydrogen House Project for someone with enough capital and land to use lower pressure hydrogen and a huge solar array to do seasonal off-grid storage, a capable and passionate hydrogen engineer, he is able to fuel a hydrogen car at home, it's an interesting window into what that might look like if ever productized.
      There have been conversations on reddit about converting the Mirai from a hydrogen EV to a battery EV, as it's an electric car already, in theory you could scoop out all the hydrogen parts and replace them with a DC fast chargeable battery, I don't know if the value of the fuel cell (contains platinum) would pay for the conversion.
      But, practically, take whatever you can get and buy another car is the simplest option, the Lexus 450e is probably a comparable ride quality to the Lexus inspired Mirai Gen 2, although it's not that great an EV regarding range, efficiency and charging speeds, but some folks want to stick with Toyota and these are their EV offerings at this time (bZ4x and Solterra too)

That said, it would only make sense if you can plug in at home every night, and for the sake of the battery, get in the habit of leaving it plugged in at home. Depending on your average driving habits, a nightly charge on a 120V outlet would fully charge it, satisfy most of your needs, and then the H2 tank would be there for occasional freeway trips. If you wanted to stick with hydrogen, the plug in CRV from Honda might be interesting, would love to see you at least test drive one on camera, it gives you a enough EV only range that hunting for hydrogen would not be quite so desperate and the plug in running costs would be one tenth those of hydrogen, you would need a socket to plug it into, a regular 110V on a driveway is probably enough for your daily miles, I don't know if the CRV will come with a fuelcard too, but with a plug in, it should last a lot longer time wise.
    I want to know if the hydrogen is actually green, if you dig into BC's HTEC website they admit it's fossil fuel hydrogen once they run out of green (electrolyzer) hydrogen, but with no numbers given as to when that happens, I don't see any journalism at all around holding hydrogen producers or retailers accountable for their green creds, and I think a persistent TH-camr is more likely to get closer to the truth than a lazy environmental "journalist".

      @@jetx2599 Just as Toyota USA use 3rd parties (dealers) to sell their cars they are not about to deal with day-to-day operation of hydrogen stations and they are not going to build hydrogen production plants.
      Besides, the lack of reliability is because the station equipment manufacturing is new and those manufacturers are learning on the fly. The first three years the stations operated decently because there were very few cars using the stations. Once the number of cars increased, they started to fail because they could not handle the back-to-back fueling.
      True Zero has been successful in improving the equipment by improving and retrofitting the equipment working with other manufacturers. This is something they never intended. They, and other station developers, thought they would install the equipment and it would work just fine. This did not happen.
      Air Products doesn't want to put a lot of money into their stations because they are getting out of the light-duty business. Iwatani has been stuck with bad equipment (Nel/Cavendish Hydrogen), so much so that they are suing the company.
